  1. It's all good. A couple of teammates liked him. "Send in the clowns!"
  2. Me, too. People said I was crazy for wanting the Yanks to sign both Harper and Machado. I wonder how many wish they did, now.
  3. You must know that often when multiple witnesses to a crime are present, they all give different accounts- sometimes wildly different.
  4. The opening odds given are largely based on correlations and trends from the regular season along with who people are betting on or are likely to bet on. I just can't believe the Brewers, A's and Ray's had close to the same chance as the Astros or even the Yankees or Dodgers. Maybe your idea of close is different than mine.
  5. It might not "need to be either or," but I'm not sure I wished we tried to have it both ways. Could we have won without Manny? Without Dice-K? Without Lackey? Without Kimbrel or Sale? We probably could have without Crawford, Thornburg and others, but we won by making sure we had a better than just good enough team. I'm okay with second-guessing, and I do it myself enough, but I'm not going to be over-critical on anything that brought us 4 rings in 2 decades. In hindsight, we could take back some trades or signings, here or there, but I think we need to "go for it" from time to time. Yes, I wish we didn't go as far as we did, but who am I to say we didn't need to. We got the rings, and it was worth it. We've had some great farms and some great teams, and sometimes both at the same time. It won't ever be as easy as it was before, but I think we can get back to the top in a few short years.
  6. I like that line of thinking.
  7. I disagree. We built better teams than the Dodgers, and we sacrificed the farm to do it- not just DD, either. the 2013 team was somewhat lucky, but we still had a top 3 winning % every year we won.
  8. Not true. The odds given before the playoffs starters were: 30:1 TB 25:1 MIL 20:1 OAK 18:1 WAS 17:1 STL 16:1 MN 9:1 ATL 5:1 NYY 11:4 LAD (2.75:1) 2:1 HOU That's about as far from a crap shoot as can be. Yes, the Nats beat the odds, but Houston is going to win it all. No way they had a 1 in 10 chance- same as everyone else. Not even close. 2:1 vs 30:1 best vs worst.
  9. That may be part of it, and nobody can argue the Dodgers have not tried to do more than one would think is needed to be a top contender, but the Braves are another matter. Quick answer wanted: Would you rather the Sox did what the Dodgers & Braves have done- all the good and all the bad- over the last 2 decades or what the Sox have done?
  10. Stunning list. You guys can hold your heads up high this winter, but Cashman has some work to do with that rotation.
  11. This is the second of your posts I've agreed with in one day. One more, and we have a record!
  12. Winning the division was huge. Sale was a major reason we cruised into the playoffs without needing to play-in or have our best pitchers tired or on short rest to start the playoffs. Having two aces allows you to win, if one falters in the playoffs. Besides, Sale did pretty well vs the Yanks in the first round. Yes, Price and Eovaldi picked him up in the next rounds. I do not think it was a fluke that the Sox have only won when we acquired a second ace to go with the one we already had, despite the two maybe not pitching like aces every game and through the playoffs.
  13. I seriously doubt his teammates had no issues with his antics & attitude.
  14. I can't disagree on this, despite how much I enjoy disagreeing with you.
  15. Look, I love winning every year and being competitive almost every year, but I lived that history for decades after decades. I'll take the 4 rings, a few last place finishes, and some very good farms here and there over what the Braves and Dodgers have done over the last 2 decades.
  16. For what? The hundredth time?
  17. The Manny all the way up to his last year here. Puig can't carry Manny's jock- not even 2 feet.
  18. Exactly. We all know the Yanks were better than us this year. They won a lot of games despite all the injuries. We are happy they lost, because they are our hated rival, and now we don't have to hear any Yankee fans taunting us all winter long.
  19. Comparing Puig to Manny is disgusting. You lost me on that one. Manny worked his butt off. He was almost always the first one to the park and the last to leave. His work ethic was a model for every young player. Yes, he was a boy in a man's body. He made some of the same mistakes as Puig- like not running some balls out or mental blunders, but he was a beast who had a calm intensity that was a huge asset to the team. I see no need to pin our hopes on us being able to coach Puig into greatness. We have other things to focus on. Puig is on the decline.
  20. We don't win without Sale and Price. It's not about them having to be aces every game of the year. Yes, you need other pieces, but the Sox history of ring winning involves picking up a second ace. Pedro could not win by himself. We had to get Schilling. Schilling could not win by himself. We had to get Beckett. Lester could not win by himself. We had to get Lackey. Price could not win by himself. We had to get Sale.
  21. We will have 5-8 slots on the 40 man roster that are near useless, next year. I just don't think that the 40 man roster slot was any part of the equation. Wright will have TJ surgery and his team control ended after 2020. Case closed.
  22. When the last time those two teams won a ring? Yes, they win and have a strong farm, but they never win it all.
  23. You know what I love almost as much as just the fact that the Yankees lost? This whole "You can't win without a strong pen" thing took a big hit last night and in the 2019 playoffs. 1) Osuna blows the biggest save of his life. 2) Chapman blows the game. 3) The Nats make the World Series with the 22nd best pen by WAR. 4) The Astros make the WS with the 8th best pen by WAR. (Boston was 5th.) ERA- 3. HOU 84 8. BOS 91 30. WAS 126 WHIP 2. HOU 1.16 19. BOS 1.39 27. WAS 1.48 (awful!) K/BB 5. HOU 3.1 17. BOS 2.4 21. WAS 2.3 xFIP 1. HOU 4.06 10. BOS 4.43 29. WASH 5.03 (UGLY!) If the Nats win, will this mean the whole focus moves back to the rotation?
  24. Sevy was supposed to be "the face." The injury was unfortunate, and you guys had way more injuries beyond just him. I wouldn't get too down, considering all the missed time. That being said, you are right. You need an ace. If Sevy is also one next year, then that's the true model for building a ring-worthy team. You've been telling us to follow your model of rebuilding. I'm telling you to follow ours for ring winning. Two aces = rings. Pedro-Schilling Beckett- Schilling Lester- Lackey Sale- Price We never won with just one ace.
  25. He sets a poor example for young players, and we should have a lot of them in the next few years. The uptick in offense over JBJ is barely enough to offset everything else. Who has these OPS over the last 5 years? (I jumbled up the sequences.) Player A: 740, 758, 785, 820, 833 (.792 combined in 2304 PAs) Player B: 717, 726, 738, 832, 835 (.765 combined in 2229 PAs) Yes, player A is Puig, but he beats out JBJ by under 30 points. Just say No. We need to get younger, smarter, and going with a 29 year old distraction is not my idea of a rebuild.
