  1. Yes, if that rookie gets a hit in that game down 10-0, and it saved him from being demoted and possible never getting to play in the bigs again, it might have been more clutch than Papi's HR.
  2. 1) I'm not trying to quantify everything- not even things that can be quantified, let alone those that never can be. 2) A rookie trying to stay in the bigs might view an AB as high leverage, but I don't, if it's a 10-0 game. I'm okay with you thinking it is. 3) Certainly some important ABs are more important than others. Nobody disputes that. 4) Certainly some players have better numbers in important situations than others. That's to be expected, even if everything is 100% random. (It's not, BTW.)
  3. The games are too long anyway. Who wants to sit through two games in a row?
  4. Are you saying people didn't want to see that match-up because it was Oakland and Cleveland? Nobody will ever convince me the NBA is not fixed. It's almost like WWE.
  5. https://library.fangraphs.com/misc/li/ I like the Late & Close stat, but this capture some earlier inning moments when the game may be on the line, too.
  6. And, east coast fans are better.
  7. People wanted to see Curry vs LeBron. The NBA is fixed.
  8. That's what the NBA figured out and now makes sure that never happens anymore.
  9. Except when it's ovak- like it is.
  10. Something has to give when two teams with momentum clash. The Sox had won 98 games in 2004- in a much tougher division and league.
  11. Always makes me wonder why he didn't have the surgery a year ago.
  12. There you go! A real expert at running the bases!
  13. Gorkys and Josh Smith clear waivers and were outrighted to Pawtucket. Yipeee!
  14. It's more about my lack of faith in Eovaldi and Price. Price pitched 7 innings in mid April and was never allowed to do it again, despite pitching very well, at times. He'll be a year older in 2020. Eovaldi's history speaks for itself. Sale is a fierce competitor. I have more faith in his health than the others, yes. It's not a slam dunk by any means.
  15. But, but, but... What about Little League?
  16. Did Farrell tell him to use PEDs or beat his wife?
  17. Well, he may have run to 1B on a ground out or on the sac bunt.
  18. MLBTR seems to think offers would be made for JBJ... https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/10/looking-for-a-match-in-a-jackie-bradley-jr-trade.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook
  19. He didn't that time either. He never got a chance. He ran a base. (BTW, he probably ran down to 1B once or twice when batting at an NL park.)
  20. I might be in a minority, but of the 3, Price, Sale and Eovaldi, I'm the least worried about Sale. He's the most important, so yes, that makes the worry more important, but in terms of who has the best chance at being healthy, I'd say Sale. Price and Eovaldi might be tied for the 2/3 slot.
  21. I'm optimistic on maybe 2 of 3 doing better, but I think the odds are against all 3 doing better. Another scenario is that all 3 do better, but ERod doing worse.
  22. The main incentive is likely not wanting to play in Boston. It would be to want to reset his value by having a big 2020 season and getting a way better and longer term deal the following winter.
  23. He must have ripped out the pages on acquiring more than one ace. Every time we got a second ace: we won a ring. No Schilling- no ring. Pedro+ Schilling- ring. No Beckett- no ring. Schilling + Beckett- ring. No Lackey- no ring. Lester + Lackey- ring. No Sale- no ring. Price + Sale- ring. Maybe Cashman thought Severino & Tanaka were the equals of the pairs I just listed, but he was dead wrong.
  24. It was actually beyond potential. He was proven to be very effective when healthy. 2016: Team went 15-9 in his 24 starts (3.33 ERA), including a 14 game stretch where he had a 2.01 ERA. 2018: After his first 2 games: 2.31 ERA (13-5 in games he pitched in)
  25. When we signed HRam, I said to myself, "Good. We now have a 3Bman." Then, we signed Pablo- like what 15 minutes later? And I thought, "WTF?" I've found myself defending Ben more than he deserves, but that was truly a "Thanks, Ben" decision.
