I used to be a betting man, and until this Covid thing hit, I'd have bet we make the playoffs due to OAK's very tough remaining schedule. Now, I would not bet on the Sox. Sale & Schwarbs can only do so much.

A's won 9-3 vs DET. Yanks 0-0 in LAA in the 4th. HOU @ SEA. The A's are now tied in the loss column with us and 1 down overall. SEA is 4 down. The Jays 4.5 down. We're still just 2.5 behind the Yanks, as of this minute.

With all the Covid guys out and the rules that allow non 40 man roster players to play, this could get interesting.

Let's just cut all the guys we were planning on cutting this winter. Add the 5 or 6 Rule 5 guys we were going to add, anyway and call 'em all up, now? I'm mean hey, what do we have to lose? They can't do any worse than what we have now? If we are going to get desperate, why not go all the way? I wasn't against the Duran call-up. That wasn't my point, but the reasons became obvious why they waited so long to call up a guy learning a new position. Yes, he's 24. Nobody is going to save this team. That's my point. Why burn the clock out of a desperate futile attempt to maybe squeak out one more win? If we suck as badly as you make us out to be, from GM to #40 on the roster, how are a few desperate moves going to change anything, except worsen out future choices?

I'm hearing the same about Bello, Seabold and Winckowski. Also, I was not mischaracterizing some feverish fans of Duran and Munoz. Yes, most took a more subdued, "how can it hurt" approach. I did not intend to link all those who wanted Duran called up before he was ready as thinking he'd be our savior.

September call-ups now start the clock, too. The short-sightedness of some people is shocking. The guys that think this team sucks the most are the ones calling for drastic measures, such as massive deadline deals, bring up players just out of single A and what next?
