Plus, back then, 2Bmen and SSs often had low OPS. Burleson's .688 was probably about average for SSs in that era.

Yes, I did not mean my list to reflect who are the worst players. It only shows the worst offensive players during my time as a Sox fan. Rick Burleson was my favorite Sox player, and Jerry Remy was a net plus player, IMO. Others are not even close to being among the very worst. (Same with some pitchers on that list- like Wake.)

Could happen, especially if his splits don't improve, but if he doesn't get benched for slumping, I'm thinking he gets more PAs in 2022. Tough call. Casas may squeeze him out of some, but as of now, there is no Danny Santana (44 PAs in 2021 at 1B), Marwin (44), Schwarber (38), Shaw (22) or Chavis (21) on the roster. Will we see JD play some 1B? Could Dalbec get some more PAs at 3B? (More than the 21 he got in 2021?)

It's hard to know how long a leash he may have, if he struggles, like he did last Spring. Maybe the fact that he bounced back might convince Cora to stick with him through a long slump. How well Casas is doing might affect the decision, too. Looking at my projection, I think that is on the high end of what I think will happen: Maybe 500 PAs and .240 28 88 is more likely (.790 OPS.)

Can we count on anyone 100%? (Not that you asked about 100%.) I like Dalbec. I think there are good odds he can put together a good 2022 season- maybe with some slumps or prolonged slumps- maybe not. If I had to project, now (assuming 550 PAs vs 453 in 2021): .250 30 95 (.310/.500/.810) Of course, he could do much worse or significantly better.

Maybe Dalbec is like JBJ without the superb D. He might just be streaky. So far, he has been. .959 first 92 PAs in MLB (2020 season) .595 middle 173 PAs (start to 2021) .916 last 280 PAs (end of 2021) All in all, maybe that 173 PA stretch was the outlier. He's had two nice streaks combined to make 372 PAs, which is over double the PAs of his cold streak.

Yes, but almost all answers have a qualifier, as the worst player was probably one that got 2 or 3 PAs. Worst with 100+ PAs? Worst with 300+? 600+?

I mentioned Edgar and what amounted to us paying him about $40M for one forgettable season. Per dollar spent, he, Pablo and Carl Crawford are top 3 or 4, IMO.

He did end up pretty much being benched for the playoffs. (12 PAs total)

That's what makes this question tricky. The worse a player is, the less he plays. The absolute worst player to play for the Sox might have less than 10 PAs, and nobody hear of him.

JBJ will be given every opportunity to be a FT OF'er. I think Bloom & Cora expect him to win and keep the FT job, but he may sit vs LHPs more often than many FT players.

No, but RBIs are made possible by players ahead of you, and if you get more opportunities, you usually get more RBIs. Renfroe: 572 PAs in 2021 633 PAs in 2019+2020 RISP: 160 PAs and 66 RBI in 2021 145 PAs and 42 RBI in 2019-2020 combined

A couple prospects were included in the deal. It could be they were a significant reason for the deal. Bloom also might have felt Renfroe is not as good as many feel he is.

Probably not, but he did have 86 RBI in his previous 562 ABs.

I would not bet on any of those 3 "what ifs," but JBJ will be given a chance to hit, Arroyo will be given a chance to play and Duran will be given a shot, if he can hit. (Yes, perhaps a big if.) My guess is Kike will end up playing at 2B, CF or even RF depending on the answers to these what ifs. Personally, I want Kike in CF as much as possible, but I realize it may not happen, especially with so many moving parts, including the possibility we add a solid OF/er by opening day.
