  1. Since the WC playoff system started in 1995, no AL team has ever made the ALCS 5 years in a row. The Astros have a chance, this year. They play CWS round one. (The Braves did it in the NL- I think the first 5 years.)
  2. I don't think Plawecki's .673 career OPS vs LHPs or even his .794, this year is enough to start him over Dugo.
  3. I never stated either of those things. I gave my opinion on what I would have done. We don't know what would have happened had they not taken out Pedro or had they left in Eovaldi. They got a bloop hit off Pedro and a near HR and base-running blunder off Brasier. Who knows what happens otherwise? You?
  4. No doubt. I was on pins and needles, too, but I'd have been stuck with needles and pins with almost anyone else.

As for Cora who said anything about hating him. I read lots of negative Cora comments the past week, and more than one have said to fire him, so it’s not just me, but I have never said I hate Cora, and I don’t it’s strictly for his cheating. You like to over exaggerate just like with this short rest thing that is way over exaggerated. Throw 120 pitches, and then it will mean something. So, this does not mean you want him fired?
  6. Why do you feel I felt like I wanted to ruin a season? I have been one of the true believers for longer than almost everyone else, this year. I have confidence we can advance to the next level of the playoffs. My views on what I think Sox managers should do mean nothing to the actual results.
  7. Why do you think what I think determines how a season ends?
  8. LOL. I was fine with both moves. I just felt differently.
  9. I was fine with it, too, but personally, I thought Eovaldi should have stayed in (same as Pedro). (I don't think that is hypocritical.)
  10. So, fire Cora is still your position? I'd have left Eovaldi in, too, but there is n way to knw what was the right or wrong call- after the fact. As much as many think this babying pitchers sucks, and we long for the good ole days, the fact is, pitchers just don't hold up like they used to. The third time through numbers are reality, and BTW, the first 2 Yankees guys up for the 3rd time homered and singled off Eovaldi. Personally, I'd look beyond that, but I'm not going to pretend I know it was the right call. Cora has access to a lot more information that we do- numbers that go beyond just the raw data we can see, like... Eovaldi... .648 first time seeing a batter .670 second time .780 third time 1.571 4th time. Stanton .832 OPS vs Eovaldi
  11. The career OPS differential is more telling: .847 v .674 Even more so, the RBI numbers: 102 v RHP in 897 PAs 25 v LHPs in 416 PAs (Much due to the HR variance: 28 to 5) I'd love having Dugo as a late inning PH'er vs a righty, and with the 3 batter rule, managers now know there can't be a pitching change, soemtimes.
  12. Well said. With guys like Taylor out and others who went down on COVID protocols, we needed guys like Robles (and Richards before him) to step up and give us a hot streak. Lucky we had so many RP'ers to choose from and only need 2-4 to be trusted at any given time. We lost when that number got down to zero and 1 or 2.
  13. I agree on mismanagement and think Cashman and Boone are not worthy of returning. They played Torres out of position. Cashman built a team full of players made of glass, and while they may look "good on paper," we should expect most won't play near a full season. A few, like Stanton, played a lot, and one could actually call that "lucky." Unless they change their philosophy, they need a lot of luck to reach "on paper" value. Can they count on Cashman to change?
  14. Okay, we agreed Sale should not go game 1. Pivetta over Sale is as questionable as your fire Cora, this winter, position.
  15. He throws hard. He's streaky. I think he hoped he caught a hot streak, and he did. I'm not sure he knew he got a good one. Maybe he hoped one from Robles and Davis would do well.
  16. How much of Dugo's great numbers come vs LHPs?
  17. If Schwarber plays LF, Dugo is the bench bat- and a good one!
  18. If Bloom has $40M to spend and 4-5 holes to fill, I agree; he will likely not make a big splash, unless he trades salary (Bogey and/or JD-Vaz). If Bloom is give $55-60M and decides to just fill 3-4 slots via free agency or trades, we could see one big splash signing like Semien, Baez or Scherzer.
  19. When they keep under performing, when do we start looking at how we determine "on paper" value? Maybe they were never that good to begin with. Part of it is injuries, but injuries should be expected with the players that Yanks have on their roster.
  20. Where did I say career numbers are "meaningless?" I'm concerned about Robles, too, but most RP'er have long stretches of success and failure. They ride the waves of recent success or failure. I don't feel comfortable bringing in Robles, but I do more than just about anyone else not names Whitlock or Houck. Taylor just got back, right? I like him more, but maybe he needs to pitch in a low leverage situation first.
  21. I agree that ERod should go game 1 and Sale game 2. It seems like even when I agree with you, you act like I am not. When I made my statement, I was not aware Sale had made 62 pitches, in that 2.1 IP. That's more than I remembered. He should NOT be even considered as a game 1 starter.
  22. Yes! 7 Ks out of 7 outs! The 3 BBs were a season high, and 4 hits made it 7 men on base in 14 PAs. We need better than that in his next start (Friday?)
  23. I remember several posters arguing Kelly should be left off the playoff roster. YES! With most RP'ers, it's all about how you did your last few games.
  24. He hardly pitched his last start, so I'm not sure the short rest thing matters much, but you may be right. If we are going with ERod and Sale in the first 2 games, starting ERod in game one makes more sense. Eovaldi will start game 3. The only real question mark is Houck. Does he start game 4 or could he even start game 2? Is Pivetta done as a starter for the playoffs?
