  1. It does seem like the wheels often come off after an error.
  2. Now, Renfroe's redeeming quality on defense is being shaken. (Yes, Devers could have done better, too.)
  3. Jays up 5-1 on the Rays, now.
  4. Iggy plays guitar! (He's rockin'!)
  5. No love for Christian IL Arroyo?
  6. Bobby Dee going with the pitch. What a change in approach we have seen.
  7. True, but earlier in the year he stated he would not platoon him. I think it was after he hit a GW HR off a lefty.
  8. He's been real reluctant to platoon Dugo.
  9. So, Plawecki in a day after night game? Any known reason?
  10. Plus, Iggy is popping it.
  11. No love for Kike in CF? (Maybe they extend him.) I do think Bloom will look into trading Bogey, but it can't be for prospects, unless he signs Correa or Story. Devers is not moving. He has shown he can play good D, so we'll have to work on why he isn't more consistent and focused. Dalbec and Casas will be our 1Bmen for the next few years. I have to wonder why Verdugo and Renfroe aren't flipped, now. They both have played the other corner enough to not be a major shock. We may trade one of them, especially if we keep Schwarber, but I won't be surprised to see the same OF again with Kike playing more CF, than 2021. As of today, Kike has played: 47% of CF innings 27% 2B 3% SS I'm hoping, in 2022, it's more like 80% CF 15% 2B Vaz may be the top candidate for trade and replacement of all our players, but I know many here like his D.
  12. I think many of the biggest spenders will fill their SS needs, this winter, so Bogey's options may be limited. Teams that wanted to sign a big star SS but missed out may inquire about a trade for Bogey- hoping they can keep or extend him. I do think many GMs are aware of his defense. Some may not think he's as bad as I do or other GMs do. Some may think his offense far outweighs his defensive short-coming, as I do, and still want him. He is also a start player who may generate fan interest and increased viewership and attendance. The Sox have nobody in the system ready to play SS in 2023, unless you think Downs will improve. We'll need a SS as much or more than many teams and can afford to spend a lot more than many teams, so he may not be going anywhere.
  13. He's been one of my targets, but not during this season. Bogey can play 2B or 3B and our offense does not get worse, depending on who plays SS.
  14. Yes, very little can be done, right now without creating other weaknesses somewhere else. I doubt we make major changes, this winter, either, but we can take a few steps, this year, and when Bogey opts out (or before) try and replace him with a great glove without losing much offense, at all. Yes, that will cost money, but so will keeping Bogey. With Dalbec and casas at 1B, I doubt Devers changes position. The good thing is, he's still young enough to improve his D. He's younger than Dalbec and Duran.
  15. Both can be moved to another position without losing their bats. Bogey may opt out after 2022, so we may have a hole there, soon enough. Vaz is not an important offensive player. Renfroe could play LF. A commitment could be made to play Kike in CF, almost exclusively by adding a good infield utility player.
  16. We have to wait to see who signs this winter, and who is left with a hole.
  17. 1. We don't know how hard they worked over the winter. 2. Practice may not improve focus, concentration or other factors involved with defense beyond just raw skills and creating and maintaining routines. I'm not doubting that the players we have, now, could not be better or get better, but that does not make Max's point meritless. He never said we claimed we had to replace players to improve on defense.
  18. He may have been thinking more about Schwarber playing over Dalbec at 1B or Verdugo in LF. Nobody else is being "replaced," this year.
  19. I get that, and I never said that either, except on the 2022 thread. I'm just saying his point has merit. he wasn't saying we were arguing for replacing players, just that there would be a trade-off had we done something to improve our D. Now, 700 would have us believe it's mostly Cora's fault for allowing the D to get this bad. He implied bad is on the players- really bad is on the manager (for some reason- not the GM). Maybe, Cora could have done something to improve the focus and confidence, but I'm not sure how you can get Renfroe to catch easy pop ups. Do you bench him after a boo-boo. Are we really supposed to believe Cora isn't talking to players and working on fundamentals? Many of our players just plain suck on D or are solid below average defenders. I'm not sure anyone can do much more than has been tried already. Some players we have can still grow, and players like Devers and Dalbec have shown signs of plus D. Hoping for better consistency is about all we can hope for from those two. Bogey, Renfroe and Vaz are what they are.
  20. I don't. I gave up on them, too, and their sample sizes weren't 350-400- the point where Dalbec turned it around. Santana, at least, had some history. Marwin's was garbage can- enhanced. Cordero's was small and scattered. Let's not forget Renfroe was at .485 on May 1st after 68 PAs. He was still at .619 after 148 PAs- a sample size greater than Santana and Cordero. Also, Santana is at .786 since July 1st (47 PAs). (BTW, in small sample sizes, Marwin is at .717 and Chavis is at .955. after leaving here.)
  21. I think his point was about replacing some of our poor defenders and how that would hurt the offense by maybe more than the gains in defense amounted to. It's a valid point, but my point was more about the team we have now, losing games on defense, and certainly we aare losing more over the past 6 weeks than earlier in the season. That's saying a lot, because we lost more than our share back then, too.
  22. I think Bloom & Cora expected... Mawrin to hit well enough to be a net plus due to his plus defense. Dalbec to learn 1B more quickly and at a higher level by now. Arroyo to stay healthy (maybe not based on history) Devers to improve as he nears prime. Verdugo to be a plus over Beni in LF. Kike to be close to what JBJ gave us in 2019-2020 and more importantly what was expected of JBJ's D in 2021. We were not touching SS or C. The Renfroe choice was clearly O over D, but I doubt they expected 11 errors.
  23. Agreed, but clearly our defense has factored in more losses than any other contender's D. Our offense has factored in more wins. Our pitching is maybe middle of the road among contenders, when factoring in having to face many more batters and Men on base than others due to errors, poor defense and limited range.
