  1. To me, Baez is a way better defender than Bogey, so why move Baez to 2B?
  2. I'm guessing, if we move Bogey off SS, he bolts after 2022. Who knows? Maybe he falls in love with 2B. It would be nice to have Kike in CF, Bogey at 2B and Arroyo as the infield utility guy. 1. Kike CF 2. Devers 3B 3. Bogey 2B 4. JD or Schwarber DH (only one on the team) 5. Renfroe RF 6. Baez SS 7. Dalbec 1B 8. Verdugo LF 9. ______ C
  3. To be honest, I don't know what to trust for catcher defensive value rankings or metrics. To me, how a catcher handles a staff is most important. If robo umps are added, framing pitches value becomes meaningless. Blocking bad pitches and CS% have value, but how much? Get me a guy our pitchers love to throw to. Now that Vaz's offense is not a big plus anymore, there should be more options. One question is, do we give Vaz his $7M option and trade him? Are the enough GMs out there that want him at that price?
  4. soxprospects.com really dinged him in their last rankings. Maybe they move him up for their end of season rankings. Some others should jump up, too. Maybe we see this: (Duran graduates) 1. Mayer (up from 2) 2. Casas (from 1) 3. Yorke (8) 4. Bello (7) 5. Seabold (9) 6. Groome (10) 7. Jordan (13) 8. Downs (4) 9. Jimenez (6) 10. Bonaci (15) 11. W Gonzalez (20) 12. Murphy (16) 13. Mata (11) 14. Song (12) 15. Bleis 16. Winckowski (14) 17. Lugo (18) 18. Santos 19. Wong 20. Hernandez 21. McDonough 22. Hickey 23. B Walter 24. Paulino 25. Ward (17), Arauz, Bazardo, Rafaela, Crawford, Cannon, Howlett
  5. It's all about D for the catcher, to me. I don't know enough about catcher D on other teams, so maybe Bloom does.
  6. I've always loved Simmons, for his defense of course, but the metrics show his defense has slipped a lot. (As has Iggy's.) There might be some young defensive SS some team will trade for cheap. Otherwise, my needle is moving towards Baez or Semien.
  7. Of all the positions where defense is a major concern, I see Devers and Dalbec as the best chances for improving at their positions. Devers has done very well, defensively for very long periods of times, but then seems to slump on defense, many times while also struggling at the plate. I'm not sure if he is distracted- lack of focus or just cannot control his arm- ever. Since Devers and Dalbec have longer team control than Bogey and Vaz, I think the focus for this winter should be SS and Catcher and maybe RF. With Kike having just one year left, and Duran not being a defensive whiz, OF may be a higher priority than 1B and 3B, to me. (Plus, Casas offers a third option before too long.) I think the best thing to do is stick with Devers at 3B and Dalbec at 1B for another year. We'll know more about Casas. We need to get Devers to buy into working hard on improving his focus, footwork and throwing. Dalbec, too, but he seems to be improving over the last 4-6 weeks, on D. I'm not a Bogey hater, despite my obsession for great SS D, but I think we need to think about a change, there.
  8. Me, too but not his D. I'm thinking Baez may be the best fit and should be cheaper than Correa and Story. Is Semien a FA?
  9. I'm going: BOS 9-5 TOR 9-7 NYY 9-7
  10. The Sox have less "hard games" though: 9 NYY 6 TOR 3 BOS (5, if you count the 2 games vs the Mets as hard)
  11. Kike is a great CF'er. Why move Bogey to CF, instead of 2B?
  12. I could be wrong, but I think Story is clearly the better defensive SS. If I sign him, I trade or move Bogey to 2B (or 3B, if we want to get radical.)
  13. I think it's 100% he opts out. The question is, do we re-sign him? If we think we won't, we might want to be proactive and sign someone, this year- a year with 3 excellent choices (but costly).
  14. No comp pick for Baez, since he was traded mid season (No QO). Teams might value the short term nature of Bogey's "low cost" deal. Teams that think 2022 is their best chance but don't want to give out any long term deals.
  15. For some reason, I keep reversing the split calls. I meant to say vs RHPs, Dalbec would not play 2 games. Career Splits: vs RHPs .874 Schwarber .860 Verdugo .856 JD .783 Dalbec .727 Renfroe (.762 in 2021) vs LHPs .954 JD .914 Renfroe .879 Dalbec .678 Schwarber (.774 this year) .663 Verdugo I guess we could sit JD one of the 3 games, but nobody should need "rest" in the last series of the season, and after we have had 4 days off before then. Obviously, Verdugo sits vs LHPs, but that forces JD and Schwarber to play OF in the same game and Renfroe to play CF! Vs, RHPs, Dalbec or Renfroe should sit. Maybe one for one game and the other for the other. Either way, we are forced to use one of the line-ups I mentioned, unless we sit a big bat.
  16. K's never bother me, if the guy is getting the job done when not K'ing. I'd rather have 18 more Ks from JD than his 18 GIDP's.
  17. We need to take care of business vs the weaker teams but also vs NYY. The good thing is, the Yanks and TOR play each other, so both can't go undefeated. The remaining schedule: BOS 3 v BAL 2 v NYM 3 v NYY 3 @ BAL 3 @ WSH NYY 1 @ BAL 3 v CLE 3 v TEX 3 @ BOS 3 @ TOR 3 v TBR (who might be resting their stars) TOR 3 v MIN 3 @ TBR 4 @ MIN 3 v NYY 3 v BAL
  18. If we face 2 lefties, maybe Dalbec starts once.
  19. I'm thinking we might actually see these alignments for 1 of the 3 games. (Maybe the one with Schwarber at 1B in 2 games.)
  20. Since when is K% more important than OPS, WAR or other values? (That's not to say Bogey does not have great values, there, but why use K's?) WAR 21 5.1 Correa 4.9 Bogey 3.6 Baez 3.3 Story 3.1 Swanson 20-21 7.4 Semien 6.8 Bogey 6.0 Correa 5.7 Story 4.9 Swanson 3.6 Baez (HAD A BAD 2020) OPS 21 .875 Bogey .845 Correa .826 Baez .801 Story .774 Swanson 18-21 .898 Bogey .882 Story .823 Baez .811 Semien .808 Correa
  21. Many might want that, but only 3 will get one. Many might not want to commit to $25-33M x 4-7 years, but can afford $20M x 1. (They could even trade him again at the deadline.) You really must not think much of Bogey's value to think nobody would trade for him.
  22. So, Schwarber in RF, Renfroe in CF and JD in LF.? Maybe Schwarber at 1B vs a lefty?
  23. Another lucky inning by the Yanks. 3-2 Yanks
  24. I just posted the same thing on the game thread!
  25. BAL just took the lead on a 2 run HR vs the Yanks in the 8th!
