    They could do more, if the money is back-end loaded, so trading him would be almost a sure thing before the last 1-2 years.

    BTV has some mighty big values assigned to many players not named Casas or Mayer. Acuna, Tatis & Soto are off the charts (over 267). Corbin, Wander, Burnes, Buehler & Ohtani are between 158 and 190. Bichette, L Robert & O Albies are between 119-128 44 players are between 58 and 118 Devers is at 57.2 Not bad being ranked 54th with just 2 years of team control. Wander has 6 years.     I might be oversimplifying things, but it may very well come down to Bloom needing to choose between trying to keep ERod or trying to keep Schwarber. If we bring back both, there might be almost no money left to fill 3 open pitching slots and the utility infielder position.

    I've made a few comments about Perez. One was about not needing him as the 13th roster slot on a playoff roster with so many days off. We have plenty of other shaky pitchers we can give mop up inning to. One was about Bloom's spending $10M on Richards and $6M on Perez, and about him needing to make better choices with signing FA pitchers, next year. (Andriese and Sawamura were not any better.)

    I think a lot of this stuff is overblown by the media- surprise, surprise, but players may use some comments to raise the energy level. I get the point about if a player needs this kind of motivation in the playoffs, they are probably doomed.

    It sure looks that way, now. However, it may come down to Schwarber vs ERod, and both look highly needed, right now.

    I guess the question is, or was, were Lester and Price on a HOF path? (I'd say pretty damn close or yes.)

    Their contract costs will reflect these differing uncertainty factors.

    I'd pay Devers a few extra years to get him for all his prime years. Bogey is peak prime, now. If we rework his deal, it would be for mostly post-prime years. To me, Devers is a higher priority. My issue with Bogey is also about defense, and SS being a vital defensive position, AND this year being a year with so many very good FA SSs on the market. My guess is one or two can be had at a reasonable cost, after the big spenders gobble up the 2-3 they want. Semien or Baez would be nice. They can play 2B until 2022, or we could trade Bogey to a team that lost their great SS to free agency- like HOU.

    Who knows? It's kind of been widely accepted, not that means it true, you don't give the other team things that can get them upset. BTW, what is Correa going to say? "I went home and cried." Or, "I'm so pissed, I'm gonna rake, tomorrow!"

    Signing Devers to a 9 year deal brings him to age 33. If he opts out, it's because he's worth more than we owe him.

    I've never bought into the everyday player vs a pitcher argument. Top SP'er often face over 750 batters a year, sometimes over 800. That's worth more than 650, even if they are all bunched up into 32 games. Because casas looks to be everything you said he might be, his trade value is high enough to bring back some excellent value. I'm not saying I want to trade him, and I'm not for handing him away for a 2 year ab pitcher, but with Dalbec looking pretty good, he might be our best hope for getting top quality pitching at a low financial cost. Getting a low cost pitcher gives Bloom a ton of flexibility with the budget to add more top quality pitching and even explore going for Semien/Baez or bringing back Schwarber (or even both!)

    True, and as long as Cashman is at the helm, the Sox need not worry, too much, no matter how much they spend and spend.

    The kid is 24. We should try to get him to age 31.

    Agreed, but do we want to taunt Correa? Houston's most "clutch hitter?" (Not that clutch is repeatable.)

    He's nearly ML ready. True, he could explode, next year and see his value rise, but he may not. I only mentioned Casas, because we have Dalbec and may bring Scwarber back. Maybe Dalbec can play OF, but we have the OF locked up for 2022, too. (Kike is a FA after 2022.) Downs and Duran might have lower trade value, right now. Dalbec is not going to get us a quality young arm by himself.

    Sounds about right. At his age, I might go $210/9.

    I think they got blinded by Pablo's playoff heroics. I do wonder how much Ben was involved in the final decisions. My guess is he was okay with all those moves. I think the Castillo move was more forgivable.
