  2. I'm thinking Duran will be a good ML hitter. It may take a while to reach average defense.
  3. That trade was for 5 years of Mountcastle and 3 years of Means. You would not do that trade?
  4. 4 words... Five years of Mountcastle.
  5. Yes, even the ones we missed were not really horrific.
  6. It boggles my mind that teams actually strategize approaches based on who the home plate ump is that night, and some are okay with that.
  7. I'd go... 1. Mayer 2. Casas 3. Yorke 4. Bello 5. Duran 6. Seabold 7. Downs 8. Jordan 9. Groome 10. Winckowski 11. Jimenez 12. Mata 13. Bleis 14. Song 15. Gonzalez 16. Wong 17. Murphy 18. Bazardo 19. McDonough 20. Bonaci 21. Walter 22. Ward
  8. soxprospects.com has shuffled some players around, but they have yet to complete there End of Year Rankings. Here is what they have, right now: https://soxprospects.com/index.html 1. Casas 2. Mayer 3. Yorke (up from #10) 4. Duran 5. Downs (down from 2) 6. Bello (up from 24) 7. Jimenez 8. Seabold 9. Jordan (up from 17) 10. Groome (up from 13) 11. Mata 12. W Gonzalez (up from 48) 13. Murphy (up from 23) 14. Winckowski (up from 27) 15. Bleis (up from 40) 16. Wong 17. B Walter (up from NR) 18. Song (down from 12) 19. Ward (down from 9) 20. Bonaci (down from 16) 21. V Santos (rule 5 protectee?) 34. Feltman
  9. Damon? We had a LF'er. Pedro? His arm was held by a thread. Ellsbury? Wasn't even worth half what the Skanks paid. Manny? We traded him before his time was up, and just in time. Nomar? Dumped his ass just in time. Lester? A mistake by us. A Beltre? A mistake, but we only had him 1 year. AGon? Just in time. Beckett? Just in time. Youk? Traded too late. JBJ? Great let go. Mueller & VTek. Right moves. Porcello? Okay Lackey? Linda messed up but complicated Lowe? Had reasons. Schilling? one year too many but he earned it.
  10. Lester was the "one that got away," and Betts may make us have deep regrets, but by and large, we've done well knowing when to say enough is enough.
  11. No Pedro, either. We've done remarkably well in letting our stars go, just in time.
  12. Back in the day, we used to have humans call ball and strikes! Can you believe how backwards we were back when?
  13. I'd give Duran and Dalbec for Mountcastle, even though BTV does not accept due to it being a major overpay by the Sox. BTV accepted this unrealistic trade: Duran, Dalbec, Downs, Mata, Groome for Means and Mountcastle The 3-D for 2-M deal.
  14. Maneae & Bassit only have 1 year left. I'd prefer the 2 years of Mointas.
  15. Some team that does not want to lock up a top SS for 6+ years and sees their window winding down might prefer trading for Boegy over signing a SS. Don't ask me who that is. I don't know. Here's a blockbuster BTV accepted: Bogey, Duran, Vaz, Groome + $8M for Montas, Soderstrom (C prospect), Piscotty & Andrus (as salary balance) (We could even add Renfroe.)
  16. We thought we could win in 2019. I see Devers as significantly more essential than Bogey.
  17. When you look at who we want back for Duran, it's actually a huge compliment to his value. Nobody wants to hand him away for nothing. With JD able to play OF, and Schwarber in many posters eyes, Duran would hardly play. Now, Kike is a FA after 2022, so if that is on people's minds, then there is value keeping Duran around, but for all the grief we hards about keeping him in the minors, this year, how does it make sense to not play him in 2022 or keep him in AAA all year?
  18. They do need to define it, first, and making it an easy definition helps. If we go to robo balls and strikes, maybe this can be something that is detectable and called electronically, too. (Bat crosses the halfway point of plate- it's strike- no matter what angle or reason. If it looks like someone is swinging as they move to avoid being hit, so be it. If the bat is swung but never goes directly over the plate- no strike. It may be weird, but just get something consistent and stick to it. Make it simple and easy to call.
  19. I realize being a SS helps your value, but unless a GM thinks you are a significant plus value on defense, I'm not sure moving to 2B or 3B would drop his value from where GMs place it, now. The talk of signing Semien interests me, but almost everyone says Semien could play 2B, until Bogey moves on. I'd play Semien at SS and move Bogey to 2B for 2022 or just trade Bogey.
  20. Trading Devers would be a mistake, but if they won't pay him, I guess it's better than nothing.
  21. Admittedly, I've gone all yo-yo on Devers to 1B. As soon as I give up on him, he has a nice long stretch of being plus on defense. He's still young enough to learn and improve. Also, the way he hits, he's still worth that money at 1B.
  22. I'd define it as the bat crossing the halfway point of the plate. I know this creates some "what ifs," but there needs to be one clearly defined line that is either crossed or isn't. Until there is, it is only madness.
  23. We could do better. It's a pick after the first round, plus added slot money, which is not bad, but we can and should do better. If we wait to the deadline, it will be hard to trade him, if we are in the race.
  24. If there is no evidence, than there can be no punishment. The Astro players admitted it.
  25. Agreed. The uncertainty of injury might make Devers jump at a big guaranteed number that might be low on the open market. I think getting him to sign might be easier than getting henry to agree to over 8 years. To me, Devers is a pure hitter. People talk about his need to change his approach and be more selective, but I would not mess with him, and I have always belived you need a mix of approaches in a great line-up, so you can attack different types of pitchers. Look what this kid just did, one-handed! If any Sox player deserves to be locked up for 9-12 years, it is this 25 year old. It's just my opinion, and I'm not sure Bloom, let alone Henry agree.
