  1. Sometimes I give my opinion knowing it’s not likely to happen. My guess of what happens is we spend about the same as last winter but on 3-5 players not 7-8. That’s not going to be a big name. I do think he makes some sort of big trade or two. Maybe trading Bogey. Maybe trading some prospects but not to DDs level. Maybe he does both. I just don’t see us repeating last winter over and over. Maybe we do. Maybe Bloom finds a few more gems each winter, and it’s always more or better than who we lose every year, but I am pretty certain, when the time is right, and the right player comes a long, we’lol go big again. I think Betts was the right guy, but it was exactly the wrong time. I’m not sure when that right time will be, but I’m pretty certain it’s not this winter.
  2. You think that is a sign of “the new way” in Beantown? We are now Tampa North?
  3. There is a gray area between Ben and DD. I’ve already said I doubt Bloom goes large and long this winter, but I can see him doing it once every now and then, or making one Chris Sale type trade not dumping almost the whole farm.
  4. My point was that trading for big names need not be highly paid big names, which would be something one might think Bloom might do. I know he seems like the type who would not trade prospects for something like the Sale deal. The Tampa way was trading big names for guys that turn into big names, so it’s hard to imagine what Bloom might do when he’s in the other seat. This is part of what makes this winter so interesting.
  5. Sale was not a big contract when we traded for him, neither were Pedro and several others.
  6. I never said it was Bloom’s way, but Bloom is in a much different environment, now., I’m not sure we can know what he might or might not do.
  7. Actually, big names are usually traded for multiple top prospects.
  8. Yup, but we didn’t.
  9. It not like we haven’t given any big contracts. The Sale extension was big and long. The Bogey deal eas team friendly but not cheap. I think we’d go large and long this winter, if there was somebody we felt was the exact right fit. I don’t see “that guy,” this winter. Maybe we trade for a big name.
  10. im having a hard time understanding how calls made into an earpiece of the ump, and he making the call as normally done “ruins the game” for anyone. It won’t even be noticeable. Just the thought of the voice whispering “ball” or “strike” into the umps ear is somehow bothering people? I don’t get it.
  11. The Betts choice does not mean we never spend big again. The only reason I see someone like Scherzer is the shorter term- lower risk aspect. I, too, do not think we go large and long on anyone, this year. It’s not the year to look for a great ace.
  12. if ERod bolts, I’d look into Scherzer, dead arm, age and all.
  13. Here is the complete list of Sox Rule 5 Players: December 2021 Brayan Bello Kutter Crawford Jeter Downs Durbin Feltman Victor Santos Josh Winckowski Cole Brannen Franchy Cordero Kole Cottam Tyler Dearden Tyler Esplin Frank German Devlin Granberg Kyle Hart Gilberto Jimenez Kaleb Ort AJ Politi Tyreque Reed John Schreiber Thaddeus Ward Jose Adames Marco Cardoso Pedro Castellanos Felix Cepeda Ricardo Cubillan Osvaldo De La Rosa Jonathan Diaz Ryan Fernandez Ryan Fitzgerald Antoni Flores Rio Gomez Geoff Hartlieb Zack Kelly Dominic LoBrutto Bryan Lucas Charlie Madden Elih Marrero Joan Martinez Alexander Montero Oddanier Mosqueda Brendan Nail Yusniel Padron-Artiles Aaron Perry Antonio Police Ceddanne Rafaela Oscar Rangel Jesus Rosillo Roniel Raudes Yasel Santana Zach Schellinger Gregori Segovia Chase Shugart Caleb Simpson Miguel Suero Jake Thompson Grant Williams
  14. We should have traded Flores when his value was high. LOL.
  15. I'm pretty sure the guys they bring in to replace "the worst" will not be all that much better, if at all.
  16. Okay, but you also said the Sox won't be "shelling that out," so I assumed you thought they'd get it.
  17. Yes, and he will be alone as the best SS next market year.
  18. So, Jimenez might be out of baseball at 24/25?
  19. When is the last time we saw 5 top flight free agents all at the same position in the same year? Story Correa Semien Baez Seager (Bogey, next year, and maybe on the trade market, this year.)
  20. I did say I doubt he gets $25M but "might get close," so who is saying $25-30M, besides Teddy?
  21. I'll take double those K's if the guy can field, hit 30 Hrs and drive in 100. Plus, it's better than GIDPs.
  22. I'd give ERod his QO, and no, I would not pay Stroman, Glausman or R Ray large and long. If we can get one on a shorter deal, okay. I'm thinking get an older pitcher, since they won't demand and get a long term deal. Scherzer's dead arm scares me, but there are others. We need 3-4 pitchers and may only have $30-40M to spend after signing Iggy. If we spend $18.5M on ERod, then the rest will be spent on $4-8M pitchers.
  23. The winning argument.
  24. Exactly. Players known to "have a great eye" are often given the benefit of doubt- not to mention friendly-to-umps players.
  25. Maybe I'm just being optimistic, but I don't think there will be a major labor dispute that shuts down ST'ing or any part of the season. FA signings may be delayed, but I think both side know the golden goose is pretty fragile, right now. (I know that was said the last time, too.)
