  1. Blame it on a pepper... https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/red-sox/red-sox-matt-barnes-suffered-bizarre-thumb-injury-late-season
  2. The Beni trade is far from over. It was two years of Beni control, and with the money saved, we got Renfroe and Sawamura. Win-win, and that's before what we see on any of the 4 prospects.
  3. No, they've all been persuaded. It's now unanimous. Bring it on!
  4. ...and Bauer & Dustin May.
  5. The problem is when one of your 4 inning guys get shelled and can only go 1-2 innings. Can another guy go on 3 days rest? Do you need 10 guys that can go 3-4? That doesn't leave any room for 1 inning guys.
  6. If starters all start going just 3-4 innings, we will need more long men who can go 3-4 innings, so yes, basically 8 "starter/longmen."
  7. So, we all now agree on robo umps!
  8. HOU also lost Verlander and TBR Chirinos.
  9. If starters only go 18 batters, maybe they can go back to 4 man rotations. Teams can have 8 -4 inning men and 5 short relief guys.
  10. Agreed, and Bloom has not done all that well finding RP'er gems in the rough, so far. He's gone through a lot since 2020 --49 total, including a few everyday players doing mop up duty. 40 with more than 2 IP in relief 2020-2021: Barnes Whitlock Valdez Ottavino Taylor Sawamura DHern Andriese Brasier Brice Weber Workman Richards Robles Rios Springs Under 20 IP Davis Covey Perez Osich Stock Walden Brewer Houck Under 10 Henbree Kickham Mazza Hall Feliz Gonsalves Tapia Godley Triggs Leyer Schreiber Bazardo Brennan Peacock Espinal Hart
  11. I'm going to run down some 2021 AL Team stats. These numbers do not tell the whole story, but they are informative and may point to where we need the most improvement for 2022. American League Only fWAR Everyday Players 33.9 HOU 30.5 TOR 29.8 TBR 25.3 CWS 23.2 BOS (5th in offense component/9th in defense) 22.7 OAK 18.2 NYY Ranking by Position 1st SS 2nd DH 3rd 3B 3rd CF 4th 2B 7th LF 10th 1B 10th RF 11th C OPS .797 TOR .783 HOU .777 BOS .758 CWS .749 TBR 7. 12. It's hard to acquire guys like that via trade an impossible via free agency.
  13. Facing Gibson 3 times made it pretty impossible, but we did win 3 of the other 4 games and had outscored them going into game 7.
  14. They won the American League Championship! Good point, though.
  15. It was kind of shocking after being so bad for so long, and the fact that just 1 team makes it. It was harder, then. I think the hype was and still is appropriate.
  16. All-in-all, it was a great season. It was fun to watch this team battle back for so many come from behind games, and come from looking down and out to making the playoffs. It was fantastic knocking the Yanks out. Beating the pesky Rays was no easy feat, but we toasted them after the game one loss. We looked poised to beat the Astros, and the wheels came off. I don't see it as a choke, because the Astros had something to do with our demise. There is plenty of blame to go around, but it seemed like it just was not meant to be. (And, I don't even believe in fate.) Great job, Sox! Better luck, next year!
  17. When you just came off 9 losing seasons, it felt special.
  18. Just enact robo umps for balls and strikes, and let's move on. This is a no-brainer. (No offense to those with half brains who are against the idea.)
  19. Well said. I really like the "going forward" aspect of this team most of all.
  20. Nice summary. I'm not sure I have ever seen an off season where just about all our free agents to be are additions by subtractions or close to it. ERod is good, but at $18.5M (QO), there are likely pitchers similar to him that can be signed. Ottavino's numbers were deceivingly good. He can be replaced at $8M. As you pointed out, if JD opts out, we have $22M cleared from the lux tax ($19.4M in actual salary.) A lot depends on what Bloom's winter budget is, what the new tax laws are going to be, and how Bloom spends the budget. It should be pointed out that Bloom swung and missed with a big chunk of his winter signings, last year, and a bigger budget does not mean he'll do better. He actually did worse with his biggest signings and additions: $10M Richards $8M Ottavino $7M x 2 Kike (Great deal) $6M Perez $3M Marwin $3M Andriese $3M Renfroe (Great deal) $2M Santana $1.5M Sawamura (OK deal)
  21. New Jersey is actually a beautiful state, except for one tiny corner. Welcome aboard.
  22. No arguments. They traded Snell. They traded Rich Hill mid season. They lost Yonny Chrinos all year (#3/4 starter) They lost Glasnow (their ace) during the season to TJS. Their closer (Nick Anderson) missed almost the whole year Plus, Beeks (all season), Chris Archer, Springs and others.
  23. Why can't we get guys like him?
  24. They are too good at it to be caught.
  25. Yes, Cashman has 3 of the top 10 guys with high OBP and K%. (See RED on my list)
