  1. I'd have paid Taillon $68M/4 in this market. To me, that signing is the only one I feel that way about, so far. I'd give Nate $16M x 3.[/b]
  2. I just said our biggest move- not biggest 5 moves. If we can get a SP'er via trade, and at a low cost on the budget, we'll have plenty to pay for the other 4-5 slots. (That doesn't mean we'll sign Correa, just because we can.)
  3. Good points. No GM is sitting around, right now. Some have bigger spending budgets. Some have very targeted needs: others have many needs. I still think our biggest move will be a trade not a FA signing.
  4. A quarter season is a small sample size in the grand scheme of things. Look at almost any great player and you'll find a few 200 PA sample sizes that are 200 points lower than their career OPS. (Many will have even worse stretches.) You are trying to pre-soften the blow of losing him. I get it. The "change-up" should have been your manager and GM.
  5. I'm not going to say I'm have no doubts, but there are a lot of the best players still out there. Interest in guys like Seth Lugo scares the you know what out of me. I guess we need pen help, so I'm not against adding Lugo, but like most Sox fans, I'd like to see something substantial, soon. The best guys are going fast. Unless he has a trade in the works, we need to get a top end SP'er, I think before we look for depth in the rotation and pen.
  6. Updated.
  7. Is Walker better than Nate or Taillon? Is Strahm better than Rogers, Jansen, Fulmer or others? Are we sure jumping the gun is the better strategy? Do you really think Bloom is "sitting around?"
  8. Sounded like his small playoff sample size soured you. Look what players are getting. The Yanks are being outbid for their biggest superstar in a long time. Think about that. Personally, I agree. No player is worth 1/5th of the player spending budget. I've been hoping, for the Sox sake, you guys sign him and cripple your budget for years to come, but I didn't expect you to pick Judge apart. I guess people could say I pick Bogey apart by criticizing his defense, but Judge is in a class by himself.
  9. We have to bite the bullet and pay someone we want what it takes to get him here. We have budget space. If it takes an overpay, so be it. I'm not pissed. Hardly anybody I wanted has been signed, so there is time. The open market has certainly jolted upwards, and we have to adjust our thinking accordingly. Yes, it would be nice to add 7-9 players, but we don't have to do so. We can get by with 4-6. I don't think signing 9 players is going to bring much quality or major upgrades. Even if we add 3-4 bargains and spend most on the 4-6 I think we need, I'm not sure those 3-4 will be better than the guys they replace. The top 4-6 will weed out the bubble players. The next 3-4 are players I kinds like. Maybe we make a couple 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 deals to handle the issue I see happening by "adding" 8-9 players, but not many teams are looking to take on 2-3 players that are in need of 40 man status. Bloom will have some juggling to do to add 9, IMO. I'm willing to wait it out, but I'm seeing some real squeezes. (I don't think he meant 9 players with 2-3 being lower level prospects.)
  10. $15M/2 Quite a raise.
  11. I like 2 year sample sizes. Can you explain why BTV values him so lowly?
  12. To make you angry.
  13. Except he's not as good, but hey, we were "in on" Heaney and now on Seth Lugo, so WTF, why not? Turns out, we'd have been better off just sticking with Martin Perez, Ottavino and Jeffrey Springs.
  14. Correa will cost a lot- probably not as much as Judge in AAV, but for more years. It's good to see Yankee fans turn on their stars so quickly and firmly.
  15. We were the tied for 13th/14th worst record. Just about right.
  16. We have enough "bargains" already. We need quality not quantity.
  17. Taijuan Walker to Phillies: $72M/4. Should be about what Taillon gets. Do we offer Taillon that contract?
  18. I was kind of glad to see some names come off the board and go elsewhere, today... namely Heaney & Bellinger.
  19. The only lesson he learned?
  20. Scary sick.
  21. If the Sox move Story to 2B, they'd have had an equal or greater need.
  22. Heaney to Rangers for $25M/2. (Incentives to up to $37M) Senga has gotten 5 and 6 year offers.
  23. Rangers are close to stealing Heaney away from the Bloom's clutches! (Thank you, TEXAS!)
  24. Yes, for them. Remember, just 2 short years ago, he was traded by the Pirates for Wil Crowe and Eddy Yean?
  25. Yup, maybe even LF is a stretch.
