    There are certainly some fans and posters willing to go larger and longer than we both are. If I knew we'd get Suarez, I'd be fine with your limits suggested. I'm not sure of anything with these guys.

    We have kept all of our top 5 prospects under Brez and Bloom, except: #4 Teel & #5 Montgomery (with #8 Meredith) for Crochet. (I'm glad we did this one.) #4 Perales for #6 prospect Bennett (We also traded #6 Jh Garcia for Oviedo & a nice catching prospect and #8 Clarke with Fitts for Sonny Gray. I think Aldo Ramirez was #9, when we traded him for Schwarber) We've gone a long time hoarding prospects. If we add #4 Witherspoon to the list to get a top 10-15 batter in MLB who finally fills our 10 year 2B need, I'd do it. Our roster would still have recent grads Anthony, Narvaez, Rafaela, Abreu, Mayber, Campbell, Slaten and others and our top 10 prospects might be... 1. Tolle 2. Early 3. Arias 4. Valera 5. Bennett 6. Gonzales 7. Soto 8. Godbout 9. Phillips 10. Sandlin/Eyanson/Romero/Holobetz That's a nice looking future we'd have kept around.

    You don't know the definition of a sham. It does not have to be believed to be a sham. They did not mean "full throttle." They knew the meaning of the phrase but said it anyway in an attempt to sham the fans and maybe sell more tickets. It was a sham, whether believed by some fans or no fans. I'm still not sure why you have an issue with a term that fits the event perfectly.

    He has been consistent for the last 5-6 years. His WAR is helped a lot by his defense, which is not a ding on him. I want him back. His leadership has real value, too.

    I'd rather trade Witherspoon than Tolle or Early, and if the team demands him over Crawford, Harrison, Oviedo or Sandoval, I'd strongly consider adding him. Since we haven't even seen him pitch professional ball, I'm not sure we know all that much.

    Exactly. DET knows the arb guy won't give Skubal the win, so there is no pressure to find a common ground any higher than they are prepared to give him. They don't have to budge an inch, because they have a 99% chance at winning, IMO. Had Skubal submitted $25M, maybe DET finds common ground more easily. He'd be easier to trade at $19M than $22 or $25M. He might be easier to extend once traded, at $19M, too.

    It does hurt to try, because the arb guy can't pick $25M. He has to pick one or the other. Had he asked for $25M or better yet $22M, he might have won.

    It is more likely they offered 4 or maybe even 5 years than the same offer. I agree. On your $140M/5 offer, adding $30M/1 would be a major change- one more year and a higher AAV.

    He deserves it, but not by the established arb model.

    I agree, but it makes me wonder. If their offer is $120M/3 or $150M/4, why not offer the additional $50M/3 or $20M/2 to get to $170M/6?

    If Duran starts the season as the DH, he will be the FT DH. We should not use one of the 4 bench slots for a back-up DH. I think he may be in AAA day one, if not traded. I also think we trade an OF'er, so Masa will be the DH on opening day.

    Of course. It's all about the return package, and AZ is not looking for prospects. Maybe a third team could get involved, as we give AZ one of our 4 OF'ers and some prospects to the 3rd team, as they give a second key MLB piece to AZ. If AZ valued Campbell highly, maybe they'd take Duran & Campbell plus Crawford & Valera, but I think Witherspoon would have to go- not Crawford.

    Yes, they seem to be off on some areas, but Ceddanne does seem to have a lot of range in projected value. I think Duran might be too high and I'd have Rafaela worth more than Duran.

    Romy may start! Yoshida may begin in AAA, but he wont be DFA'd.

    Our window is as wide as his years of control. His AAV is about $15M- about half of Bregman's estimate will be. He'll hit double the homers. I can see not wanting to give up Early and or Mayer, but Marte is a perfect fit.

    I'm not sure I'd call Gray a "hole" but the best part about getting a #2 is that Gray becomes one of baseball's best #3's, Bello is a very nice #4 and the rest can fight over one slot- not two. Projected fWAR 5.7 Crochet 3.9 Gray 3.1 Anthony 2.9 Rafaela 2.2 Abreu 2.1 Duran 2.1 Narvaez 2.0 Bello 1.9 Contreras & Story 1.8 Mayer 1.6 Sandoval 1.5 Romy & Chapman Gray is projected as our second best player, but you think he's a hole that needs fixing.
