  1. Still, that's a different reaction to how he treated Bloom, day one.
  2. I was thinking the same thing and wondered why Red disliked the Bloom signing, day one, but seems to be ok with Breslow.
  3. I know. That does not take away from the point that they "could have."
  4. Keller really isn't close to a #1. He might be a lower #2. 2 years of control for him and 3 for Bednar is probably not enough of a return for Mayer. You talked me out of it. Funny how some think PIT would say no.
  5. While that makes sense, they could have let Bloom spend $19M over the tax line, last year and did not. The fans were restless, then, too.
  6. Agreed, but I thought that for 2 winters, now. Did they think Story and Yoshida were shiny enough? Like Bell, I think adding an ace type is "mandatory," either by signing or trade. I seriously doubt we add a second top pitcher in one winter, but maybe we could, if the long term aspect is not part of the signing, so someone like Morton. (Kershaw will always be a Dodger.)
  7. Nola has a say in signing, too.
  8. Maybe a 3-way deal where Dugo goes to HOU or wherever, we send Mayer to PIT along with the prospect from Dugo, and we get just Keller and Bednar. (We then sign Duvall.)
  9. PIT will likely trade Reynolds, this winter. The other two have several years of control. I do not think BTV's value on Mayer is too high. I have no idea how PIT values Mayer and Duran. Hell, it's hard for anyone to place a firm value on either one. I think PIT might say yes, or they might get a better offer from someone else. I'd throw in 1-2 from these roster bubble or blocked prospects: Walter, Mata (out of options,) Dalbec, Hickey, Lugo or maybe even Paulino or Jordan.
  10. I think we do, but I've been expecting it for 2 straight winters and been let down. I'm not getting my hopes up on going right up to the second tax line or over it.
  11. Nobody is saying trade Mayer for Bednar. Bednar was perhaps the 3rd most valuable return player in my suggest trade: Mayer & Duran for Reynolds, Keller & Bednar
  12. IMO, we need 2 excellent SP'er and another good one. Even adding two very good SP'ers might take up all of most of the winter budget, which is unknown, as of now. To me, it make sense to trade for one younger SP'er and then sign 1 excellent SP'er. With the budget savings, we can spend more on ... 1. a 3rd SP 2. a better RHB (CF, RF, 2B?) 3. a LH RP'er 4. an upgrade at a 2nd position no filled by #2. I would be surprised, if we trade Mayer, Anthony or Teel. I think we might have to, if we want 2024 to be a magical season. (This could also be achieved without a major prospect trade, if our spending goes way over the tax line. I think a big trade is more likely than us spending $19.9M over the first line or beyond the 2nd line.))
  13. I realize Duvall will get 2-3 years, minimum, and if he ends up losing another step on D, we'll have yet another LF/DH type on the roster, but RHBs are in short supply, and he can play a decent RF. Bite the bullet. Sign Duvall and trade Dugo.
  14. Um, the trade was for Keller (a good SP), Reynolds (a good RHB) and bednar (a good closer.)
  15. I don't think we extend him, so that is the main reason to trade him, now or at the deadline. 3-4 or our best OF'ers bat LH'd. That's the second major reason. We can probably sign Duvall to close to Dugo's arb salary in 2024, and play him in RF. I'd trade him, unless the right return just isn't offered.
  16. Bednar is the replacement and has several years of control.
  17. Some of the earlier FA signings, last winter: 11/15 Rizzo (NYY) 11/28 J Abreu (HOU) 12/6 Haniger (SFG) 12/8 T Turner (PHI) 12/9 Bogey (SDP), Contreras (STL) 12/10 Nimmo (NYM) 12/12 Josh Bell (CLE) 12/14 Jace peterson (OAK) 12/14 Bellinger (CHC) 12/15 Yoshida (BOS), Kiermaier (TOR) & A Frazier (BAL) 12/16 Vaz (MN) 12/20 Judge (NYY) & J Gallo (MN) We are just weeks away...
  18. I think, if he goes through a rigorous rehab center and agrees to be tested (if the union allows it,) he might play MLB, in 2024.
  19. How about keeping Dugo and trading: Mayer & Duran for Reynolds, Keller & Bednar Sign an ace. Maybe trade Jansen & Pivetta for a better SP. (BTV accepts just Jansen for Javier or Urquidy.)
  20. Not really unexpected, but still. German has some real talent.
  21. How about Dugo & Schreiber for Puk?
  22. I hope he jumps on the toes of opposing GMs.
  23. 3rd place gets something, I hear.
  24. At the risk of sounding dumb, what if the International draft? I thought teams just signed guys and had a certain bonus pool.
