  1. I mentioned trying Arroyo, last spring. Another example is when Cora kept Bogey at SS after acquiring Story.
  2. It’s pretty shocking that we have not added an outside free agent SP at more than $10M since Price. We’ve extended or re-signed Porcello, Sale and Nate, but nobody knew. We’ve seen so few good SPers come up from our farm in those 8 years: you’d expect more.
  3. To the fan, they don’t see much difference between extending Sale as re-signing Nate.
  4. I’d love to improve our D at two positions with one signing. Chapman would also help replace tge lost bats- Turner and Duvall. I might even predict better 2024 numbers from Chapman and O’Neill on O, too. I just can’t see repeating the pattern of spending everywhere but the rotation as being a good plan. Now, sign a decent SPer and trade for another, and signing Chapman makes a ton of sense. While it pushes Yoshida to LF, it might free up an OFer to be part of that trade for a SPer.
  5. I guess it’s more of a psychological factor for fans. We seem to view FA signings as adding a new player. The Nate signing just kept the status quo and seemed the same as an extension, except the money part you pointed out is significant.
  6. It was a huge mistake. I do think Cora sticks with some players for too long. It worked for Dalbec and Kike in 2021. It did not with Dugo v lefties, Kluber, Richards, Perez and others .
  7. I think there are two major reasons for the GM flip: 1) Bloom was the scape goat. 2) The hope Brez can make better FA signings than Bloom, especially the $10M or more ones. It’s hard to imagine Brez doing worse than this… Story Yoshida Jansen Kluber Richards Kike II (Barnes extension was just under $10M a year) (The 5 largest Bloom signings)
  8. I doubt he studied Sox farm prospects enough to form strong opinions on all of them, but your point is a good one.
  9. How about RFA= returning FA?
  10. He may also be taking some time studying which players he likes the most and talking to scouts and the player development people to determine his most likely prospects to trade. My guess is he will make at least one big splash trade. He may not want to commit to 4+ years on any FA for the reasons you Mentioned as well as an ownership group that may be stressing moderation.
  11. He also seems to really study the game. I hope he studies 1B D over the winter,
  12. No FT DH might look like: 122 games by Yoshida 10 Devers 10 Casas 10 Duran or Refsnyder 10 others
  13. FEs or free extensions
  14. Ahhh, yes. I still kinda see it as an extension. When was the last new player FA pitcher signing over $10M? Price? When you don’t produce top pitchers in your system, you’d think there would be more.
  15. It does seem like there are multiple ways to make a ton of money in baseball. All the side businesses like cable, concessions and memorabilia add up. Maybe JH & Co. Have chosen a different model and will never come close to matching the top spenders, ever again. Maybe they splurge for a year or two, then duck back under by year 3. It’s hard to get a read on even the short term plan, so 2-5 years out is impossible.
  16. I think they will spend large, again, some day, but who knows? They may be thinking they will wait until the 3 top prospects are up and adjusted, and while Casas, Bello and others still have 2-3 years left. Maybe that is “the window” they identifies as the all in period for spending. They may never spend large, again, for all I know. Whodathunk it was a 7-8 year rebuild from the start? Maybe all those HS draft picks was a sign.
  17. And that was an extension, right? Nate & Sale?
  18. It should, if they spend wisely.
  19. I know this would not happen, but if we could somehow unload Yoshida with some cash, maybe, and sign Chapman, we’d have a nice lineup and better defense.
  20. I agree, unless we trade Yoshida (unlikely) or Duran. If we could package Duran with a non top 4 prospect or two, or add Houck or Whitlock for a top pitcher with 3+ years of control, signing Teoscar might make sense.
  21. I’d throw in Yorke.
  22. It does look like “Soto” will be added to their list, but don’t count out the Mets or Dodgers, if he makes it to free agency. Let’s see how going over for more than 3 years starts affecting their farms.
  23. It wouldn’t surprise me if the Yanks reset in the next year or two, but the Mets and Dodgers, no.
  24. I’ll do everyone a favor and put Red on ignore, again. I’ll even avoid responding to things he says on other poster’s responses. I apologise for my part in putting you all through this.
  25. You think that was your only lie about my positions? lol. I apologised several times for twisting your words into hating Cora. You have never once apologised, and even double and triple down. Yes big difference. We agree on that.
