  1. I think Cora was outmanaged. The guy who used his bullpen more won both games. Both Sox starters gave up two dingers each.
  2. Actually, the Sox bullpen so far has given up 1 earned run in 7.1 innings.
  3. 7 yesterday + 6 today = 13 innings.
  4. Sluggish bats are because of the Yankees bullpen. The Sox hit both Yankees starters, but haven't done too well against the Yankees bullpen--0 earned runs in 12.1 innings so far. Correction, make that 1 earned run in 13 innings. I missed the run Holmes gave up yesterday. And my point remains. If the bullpen pitchers are on their game, they have a big advantage only facing hitters one time. And that, ladies and gents, is who you take the first two games of a series. Use the heck out of your bullpen.
  5. One more time. The Yankees, after Severino gave up 2 runs in 3 innings, have used five straight relievers to shut down the Sox. They have a bullpen, and we don't. It's that simple.
  6. They got 2 off the Yankees starter, and since then 4 straight Yankees relievers have each pitched one scoreless inning without having to face the Sox hitters a second time. That second dinger off Pivetta was on his 3d time through the Yankees lineup.
  7. If there are two things I think we can be sure of, it's that the Yankees value good bullpen arms and the Sox do not. I'm referring of course to the GM's because I'm sure Cora would like a good bullpen.
  8. The boo birds are back. Can't say I missed you that much.
  9. Same lineup as yesterday. I assume the delay was over the availability of Bogaerts, who is, thank goodness, back at SS and batting 3d. I think this lineup is fine. Let's see how Pivetta does.
  10. That's a relief. Good thing most MLB pitchers are lefties. I'm not anti-Dalbec. He had a low OBP last year but 25 dingers, 78 rbi's, and overall a pretty decent season. If Bloom had spent $80M for 4 years for anyone, I would have want it spent on a pitcher.
  11. I don't recall commenting on the extension, but remember thinking it was a good idea. That big curve and good fastball were a deadly combo. Who knew he would lose them? I also thought Sales was a great acquisition because he is so professional on the mound. But apparently his physique can't handle starting--or whatever. I am not against second-guessing GM decisions. He gets paid big bucks to make good decisions. But Chaim is in a weird set-up with the Sox, who under John Henry are accustomed to having one of the 2 or 3 highest--if not the highest--payrolls in MLB. But Chaim was one of the architects of the Rays system for evaluating and developing young talent in order to win with one of the lowest payrolls in MLB--in the absolute worst ballpark in the entire history of the human race (well, almost).
  12. I object to your terminology. The more we give women to do, the better we are as a nation. I was not a big fan of adding a lot of women to the armed services, but it happened as a direct result of the all-volunteer force (1972 and after). Recruiting women, who comprise half our population, guaranteed a HSDG (high school diploma graduate) and upper mental category (2 or 1). They have been good soldiers, which I know from personal experience. As for Eovaldi and his pitch count, that's based on some pretty reliable stats--to say nothing of the short spring training for all the pitchers.
  13. Agree with this caveat on Eovaldi. I think Plawecki does better with him than Vazquez. The box score says that Eovaldi gave up 3 ER in 5 innings and the bullpen 1 ER in 6 innings because those two Yankees on 2b in the 10th and 11th inning rightfully scored unearned runs. I like tradition, but in this case I like the practicality of starting baserunners on 2b from the 10th inning on. Games are long enough without long extra inning games. Yesterday's game was played in under 4 hours.
  14. Yesterday was worth the wait to see the new/old lineup. Not sure I like Dalbec over Schwarber, but he's getting $80M for 4 years with the Phillies, and Dalbec is a terrific bargain with loads of potential.
  15. Hitters seem to be ahead of the pitchers.
  16. Hitting's OK. Can't say the same for the pitching--no surprise there.
  17. Nice. Too bad I missed the first one.
  18. Or maybe Plawecki should be catching Eovaldi. Think about it. The i's have it.
  19. So maybe pitchers aren't ahead of the hitters here in early April.
  20. I like it, even with just 3 lefty bats.
  21. Well, that's pretty serious. Forty freaking mph over the speed limit!!!! Instead of taking Tiger to a hospital--where at one point they thought they might have to take his leg--I guess they should have taken him to jail. Justice needed to be served.
  22. It was an accident. No one else was hurt. The most Tiger should have been nailed for was property damage, which is exactly what you or I would have been responsible for. What he did to his marriage was to me reprehensible, but for that he did not go unpenalized. Far from it, given he was very much a public figure when it happened.
  23. 71 with a lot of terrific scrambling and good putting.
