  1. Thanks for that. I agree the Sox screwed him up, but, as you say, Bard badly wanted to start. He has the most astounding stat sheet I can remember seeing: 5 seasons (2009-13) with the Sox; 6 seasons (2014-2019) away from MLB; 3 seasons (2020-22) with the Rockies. Boston paid him a total of $2.9M and the Rockies have paid him, including $4.4 M this year, $7.3M. His UNC classmate Andrew Miller pitched for 16 years and was paid a total of $81M. In Miller's final 3 years (2019-21) at St Louis he was paid $34M while accumulating a 3 year WAR of -.5.
  2. Stop it. I mean right now. This thread is absolutely, positively, and definitely not about any bullpen.
  3. Hear, hear!!! I have always felt that baseball players are the dumbest (or stubbornest) athletes around.
  4. His WAR's for those 4 years were 6.6, 7.1, 6.6, and 7.4. Mookie Bett's were 6.1, 9.5, 6.4, 10.7, and 7.3 from 2015 thru 2019.
  5. Having already hammered Cora, herewith a contrarian defense of him. This game was over when our venerable starter gave up 4 runs in the first 3 innings, so it didn't really make much difference what moves Cora made after that because the Twins pitching was too good: 12 K's and 2 BB's. As bad as Shaw was, I don't think Dalbec would have done much better. Arroyo's single was about par for what Story might have done.
  6. Devers and Bogaerts have been discussed endlessly on other threads. Plus I don't think either one is worth $350M, which is probably what they asked for.
  7. While I agree spring training is definitely a time for evaluating--enough to decide who goes to Boston and who doesn't--I think the real evaluation has to be in games that count. And most of that applies to the pitching staff.
  8. Not one of Cora's best games. He pulls Valdez after 13 pitches and 4 outs to bring in Crawford for 50 pitches, 5 outs, 5 walks, and lots of runs.
  9. They pose risks wherever they go.
  10. On the other hand, that was a perfect changeup for the K.
  11. Look's like Crawford was lucky to get 3 outs in the 7th.
  12. Bradley gets a hard-earned BB so Enrique can watch pitches and our best hitter by far swing and miss.
  13. Why is Hernandez out there sightseeing?
  14. Very good at bat by JBJ.
  15. To what end? I don't like Shaw or Arroyo, but Bundy is mowing down our good hitters as well as our bad ones. Enrique just K'd.
  16. Wasn't Valdez the other long reliever last season who had a fair amount of success (at least for awhile)?
  17. He's got a slow fastball, 88-89, but mixes in a lot of other pitches along with pretty good command. A week ago he pitched 5 shutout innings vs. Seattle.
  18. Really? That's good news. Thanks.
  19. Boy, does he. He also reacts better to the ball than Hernandez, who now and then seems to wander.
  20. Shaw looked pretty awful on that. JBJ looked like, well, JBJ.
  21. Seriously? Those 2 runs were by the first two batters in the 3d after Hill had retired the side in order in the 2d inning? And since that 3d inning dinger, Hill has managed to get 6 outs with no more runs scored.
  22. Now that was a changeup, and a mile outside.
