  1. I have to say I was amazed last year how many people on this forum had hope until near the end of the season.
  2. At this point I'd rather stick with Price another year and hope that he can actually make his starts. All the good free agents are gone anyway so there's no point in clearing salary anymore.
  3. Is it too early to say "better luck next year"? In all seriousness, even though the Sox don't have a good chance of winning the division next year, I'm looking forward to the 2020 season. I can't wait to see Bogaerts & Devers continue to bash, E-Rod and Workman dominate, and maybe just maybe Nathan Eovaldi prove everybody wrong.
  4. I'm hoping that Velazquez is sharper in 2020 and can be helpful as the 6th starter.
  5. I'm not so sure Buch has anything left in the tank. 12 starts last year, 6.56 ERA, 1.492 WHIP. He's 35 now. Without steroids, a lot of guys are done at 35.
  6. Every day I come here and check to see if the Sox made any moves. Looks like we're going into 2020 with the team as presently constituted. Let's just hope Price can make his starts this year.
  7. I want young starting pitching. Like that E-Rod trade a few years back.
  8. I can't blame Mookie for going for $35 million plus. All I'm saying is I hope the Sox either move on, or ignore the luxury cap if they pay that. As long as they try to stay under the cap, they can't build a good enough team around him.
  9. And notice the Angels don't win with Mike Trout. I think overpaying one player is a recipe for failure. I love Betts, but it seems to me that when a player gets beyond $25 million per year, it degrades the rest of the roster.
  10. The Angels locked up Mike Trout long-term and it hasn't helped them win. I'm against locking up Mookie long term if the dollars are crazy.
  11. Yeah there's definitely an argument to be made for trading Betts, Price, Eovaldi, JD, E-Rod, Sale, Workman and restock the farm system.
  12. Perez, I must have missed that.
  13. Can someone remind me who the 5th starter is again now? Odds are that one of the oft-injured 3 (Sale, Price, Eovaldi) will make most of their starts, one will make about half their starts, and one will miss most of the season due to injury. Having all 3 healthy for 2020 seems unlikely. But even if they are, will they all be effective?
  14. So Chavis and maybe Dalbec will be playing first base? Been one of my big questions.
  15. I was bummed we couldn't even bring Travis Shaw back. Frustrating off-season. Hopefully we'll be able to retool next offseason.
  16. It's too soon to have another P. Sandoval on the Red Sox.
  17. Take Nova and stock up on ex-Yankees?
  18. One day I'm going to tell my grandkids that David Ortiz hit .688 in the World Series against the Cardinals, with an OPS of 1.948 and they're going to be like, "Oh you're just making that up." Then I'll add that this wasn't even David's best postseason series (2007 ALDS against the Angels he hit .714 for a 2.418 OPS).
  19. I haven't shaken the feeling that only ERod starts are must-watch tv. I feel like I should make one of those "change my mind" memes.
  20. I would prefer Mookie in CF.
  21. Tom Brunansky ... for the off-camera catch.
  22. Oh right that has to be the answer. Jamie Moyer for Darren Bragg was an awful trade. I couldn't believe it when it happened.
  23. No idea, and looking forward to the answer. Meanwhile this article is great: https://www.sbnation.com/mlb/2017/7/29/16050696/mariners-red-sox-heathcliff-slocumb-worst-trades-in-baseball-history
  24. In all fairness, Rick Porcello pitched as many quality starts (13) as Chris Sale did last year.
  25. Okay yeah I do agree with that ordering.
