  1. Now seems a good time to sign Dallas Keuchel
  2. They need to let Velazquez build up his stamina and go 5/6 innings a game. I'm not sure why this hasn't happened already.
  3. Me too. I still rue that trade.
  4. When I went to sleep Oakland had 1 run. When I woke up and checked the score, I saw they had 3. I thought, "Oh no, did they let Thornburg pitch?" even before I checked the box score.
  5. My boy Tzu-Wei Lin has a pair of doubles today.
  6. Nice spacing! Really tough to be JBJ right now. Glad Betts is hitting again, and go Chavis! This team can win at 5 runs / game with the pitching starting to regain its form. My mid-May prediction seems to be right, as the team is rounding into shape now.
  7. I don't think that many slumping players can regain their skills all at once. We saw the starting rotation pitchers come back one at a time. I assume it will be the same with the hitters.
  8. We could but it doesn’t seem realistic. Moreland, Pearce, Bradley, Leon, whoever plays second base, they are all automatic outs right now.
  9. I keep repeating my "team will turn it around by mid-May" mantra, but wow that date is getting closer. It's true that by and large the rotation is in much better shape than the start of the season, but the offense remains abysmal. The pen is fine. We may need a trade to get a sparkplug in that offense.
  10. I'm okay with dumping all 3. Velazquez + Barnes + Brasier + Workman + Walden is a good core. Hernandez and Lakins show promise, and that makes 7. Even when Johnson comes off the disabled list I'm not sure he cracks the top 7, but I'm open minded to seeing how he plays then.
  11. My number one concern is the offense.
  12. It blows my mind that starts like Gio, Kimbrel, and Keuchel are just not playing this season.
  13. If the Sox decide that JBJ isn't a full-time player, I think the next step wouldn't be trading him, but rather using him as a defensive replacement and 4th outfielder.
  14. Indeed he's tied for 4th in the AL in the saves category. He also has a 1.59 ERA so far and a .88 WHIP. We have a special player here folks. I'll even admit my off-season target Leclerc has a 7.88 ERA and a 1.88 WHIP. Wow!
  15. There's a lot of Sox players off to a slow start, and I'm sure by the end of the year JBJ will end up carrying his weight, but he and Devers are two of the most frustrating players I have ever followed.
  16. Oh I know my comment was general in nature. If they are still playing poorly come the end of May, I will jump off the bandwagon.
  17. Yeah I'm not even close to worried yet about not being in contention come August. Sure they are playing terrible now, but I'm seeing the signs - player by player - that the rust is shaking off. Mookie Betts is, of course, the key. But Price, E-Rod, and now Eovaldi have all turned in some nice performances and I expect that to become more of the norm for them. Porcello and Sale will follow. Don't lose hope yet!
  18. Well, we thought he was potentially a superstar during the streak. News article: During the streak, Bradley is hitting .415 (44-for-106) with nine doubles, three triples, eight homers, 30 RBIs and a 1.271 OPS. The sky was the limit for Bradley back then. Now, we crave .260 hitting again.
  19. We seem very far away from JBJ's hitting streak days.
  20. I'm sticking to my mid-May prediction for the turnaround, but given the size of the hole they may have dug until then, they may not get back to .500 until the middle or end of June. In that case, the best we can hope for by the all-star break is a team just getting into wild card contention.
  21. I'll have to adopt your philosophy. Pedroia is now hitting .105 Betts is now hitting .222 Pearce is now hitting .125 Swihart is now hitting .231 Vazquez is now hitting .195 Bradley is hitting .149 Nunez is hitting .184 I know it's early, but they are digging quite a hole, both in personal stats and team won-loss record.
  22. Oh cool! And Vazquez is our second baseman. It's a weird one today. This far into the season, Porcello and Pedroia are the ones I'm most worried about. EDIT: I'd also like to see a sign that Mookie Betts is getting back to all-star caliber.
  23. Waiting for Pedroia to heat up ...
  24. When Pearce comes off the disabled list (if he hasn't already, sorry not following that close), I hope they play both him and Moreland in the lineup for a while. I guess that would mean JBJ sits and JDM plays the outfield, but I'm sure there are other choices.
