  1. I am going to hold you to that Fred. LOL
  2. I don't really disagree with the idea that the rest of the division is weak. OTOH, the Sox are projected to be about the 6th best team in baseball. So while they may not be that good, I think they are good enough to win the division based on their own merit, not just on the fact that the rest of the division is weak. I agree that the FO will add another pitcher by the deadline. As far as the playoffs go, the key is to get there first, which the Sox have a good chance of doing. Once there, anything can happen.
  3. Is this why you complain during the offseason? So that if things go south, you can complain some more and say that you warned us? Obviously, you think the team is good enough to win the division. I saw your prediction. If they're good enough to win the division, then there's no need for all of the complaining.
  4. I am shocked Fred! Shocked, I tell you! But good for you. A little optimism never hurt anybody.
  5. Hi SoxnCycles. If the Yankees rotation is healthy, their pitching could be scary good. I still think they lack the offense though.
  6. I don't see the Yanks winning the division either, but you have to remember that they are the luckiest team I've ever seen.
  7. That's about the way I see it. I agree about the Tigers, and I might even put the Sox ahead of them at #5. My prediction for the division is for Boston to win it and the Rays to finish last. The other 3 teams are pretty much a toss up. That said, it's going to be a tight race. Any team getting a couple of good breaks can win it.
  8. Agreed. I usually don't have anything to debate or even add to your posts. Well said.
  9. Nor am I. As I said before, I think the Sox blew the Lester deal, but I think they recouped nicely. While a #1 would have been nice, I am okay with the rotation as is. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. Yes, I will be greatly disappointed, but no need for continued complaining. I think the FO did a solid job this offseason.
  10. What other AL East team or teams do you think are better than the Sox?
  11. LOL, good to hear Spud, not that I really thought you would. You seem like a very level-headed and nice guy. I like you.
  12. I think they are about 6 overall. And I'm basing that off of what I have read and the projections that I have seen, which are not the "betting" projection systems. Again, I know that the games still have to be played, but the models like the Sox based on what is on paper.
  13. I see us as closer to the 6 end of that spectrum than the 10, but either way, doesn't that make the Sox a playoff contender?
  14. We've all made similar mistakes. No need to feel like an idiot. A couple months ago I was making a post about Kuroda, or so I thought, but I called him Matsui. LOL I have no idea where Matsui's name came from.
  15. I wholeheartedly agree that there is no need to rush in making the decision. To me, catching is a defense first position, and Vazquez seems to be elite in that category. Any offense he gives us is gravy, especially if the rest of the offense performs like they should.
  16. LOL Spud. Don't go all Fred on me. I understood what you were saying.
  17. I like it. Sounds like a feasible plan. Whatever ends up happening, it's nice that the Sox have the flexibility to consider several options. It will be interesting to see what happens with both Vazquez and Swihart.
  18. I know that that is a possbility, but I'm still having a hard time believing it. That would break my heart. I still haven't gotten over the loss of Varitek. LOL
  19. I feel the same way, but his value really seems to be as a catcher, not only for his bat, but also for his strong defense as well. If he's as good as he projects to be, then the team would be doing itself a disservice by moving him to another position.
  20. When things haven't gone well, Sox fans have often been miserable, disappointed, and/or heartbroken. But I don't think that's the same thing as the sense of entitlement that I see from some fans. Anyway, that's just my opinion. If the Sox don't play well this year, I am not going to be happy. I take the losses as hard as anyone. Too often, I can't sleep after a tough loss. That said, if things start going south, I'm not going to constantly bash the team or the FO.
  21. The Yankees starting rotation has as many question marks as the Sox rotation, with the Yankees rotation having more upside and the potential to be very, very good. (Note to self: Draft all Yankees starters.) The Yankees BP should be very good. Both teams had a difficult time scoring runs last year. The Sox addressed this issue during the offseason, the Yankees did not. Therein lies the difference in standings, IMO. Not that any team in the division will run away with anything.
  22. Expecting this team to be competitive each year is one thing. Having a team that is competitive each year and still not being happy with what the FO has done is another. Before we won the WS in 2004, the fans that I knew did not behave like this. I haven't suffered through as much heartbreak as some of you, but even so, I know that these are great times for Red Sox fans. My dad reminds me of that whenever I show any hint of wanting to mope because things are not going well with the team. We have been very fortunate in recent years, with another competitive team for the 2015 season. It's all good.
  23. IMO, the only question marks defensively, provided we have good health, are Hanley and Xander. Pedroia and Naps are Gold Glovers - not much improvement needed there. Our defense at 3B last year was terrible, to the sum of -18 DRS. Sandoval playing decent 3B will be an improvement. He should be slightly above average. Bogaerts improvement remains to be seen, but I am guessing that he will be improved over last year. Small samples and all, but from what I've read and seen of Castillo and Betts, they are very capable of playing solid outfield defense. Hanley will probably not be that great, but I am inspired by his willingness and desire to learn his new position. Overall, I think the defense will be very solid. Then again, I like Kool-Aid.
  24. I am optimistic about this season. I think, or at least hope, the starting pitching will pleasantly surprise some people. Our offense should be one of the best, and our defense should be very solid. If we find that we need another starter, we have the flexibility to add one during the season. What's not to like about that?
  25. The bullpen hammer may have been a contributing factor to some extent, but I call it mostly luck.
