  1. Hey, we agree on something!
  2. Farrell stated that he was not going to bounce Betts back and forth between right and center. Therefore, when Young starts in place of JBJ, Young will be in CF. Not a great idea, since Young is not a great CFer. Also, JBJ's splits against LHP has been pretty good. I'm not quite sure where Farrell is going with this one.
  3. I would say that skepticism is warranted, but the degree of negativity that I've seen before the first game is even play is unwarranted. It's not like ownership is resting on its laurels. They made some huge changes this offseason. I can almost guarantee you that if either Pablo or Hanley are terrible again, there will be a phantom injury placing them on the DL. Pablo and Hanley were terrible last year. As I said, I can understand being skeptical of their ability to rebound. However, they at least deserve a chance to make amends for last season. Players have bad seasons. Give them a chance.
  4. It's my worst nightmare UN. You have gone all Fred on me.
  5. His injuries in recent years are a valid concern. I think Farrell needs to give Pedroia regular days off throughout the season, whether Pedroia likes it or not. That said, when Pedroia is on the field, he is still an above average 2nd baseman, both offensively and defensively, even with any decline that we've seen over the past few years. Additionally, if anyone can make Hanley an adequate defensive first baseman, it's Pedroia. I have read that Pedroia is giving Hanley a narrative after every play.
  6. FTR, I have always preferred keeping Betts in CF and JBJ in RF, and I believe the majority of posters here feel the same way. My post saying that JBJ will be our everyday CF was based on the Farrell making that statement, not my agreement with it. I'm thinking Farrell is in the minority with his wanting JBJ in CF. As far as Pedroia being traded, it's not happening.
  7. I am hovering between 89 or 90 wins, which made it difficult for me to vote in this poll. However, being the optimist that I am, I'll go with 90 and a playoff berth.
  8. I knew there was a reason why I like you.
  9. As always, solid post. I like the quote from one of the rival execs who asked for our analytics guys' phone numbers after Henry made this statement.
  10. Take a look at the articles written about the Red Sox and the posts that have been made here. Reporters and fans have already pounced. Things are already ugly, and the team hasn't even played its first ST game. I very much enjoyed this article titled "Even For Boston, Red Sox Negativity Reaches Embarrassing New Lows" http://boston.cbslocal.com/2016/02/25/embarrassing-red-sox-coverage-boston-media/
  11. Letting Theo go and firing Tito was pure lunacy and over reaction. Firing Ben and hiring Dombrowski is over reaction 2.0.
  12. Of course you were being accusatory. Accusation is implied whenever you make a statement like that. Otherwise, there's no need to make suck a statement. Also, you are very outspoken in your beliefs. There is nothing wrong with that, but don't kid yourself into believing otherwise. I believe that advanced metrics play a very important role in baseball, probably more so than anyone else on this board. However, I have never even remotely suggested that scouting isn't very important as well. Neither has Ben, or Theo, or Bill James, or any other analytics types.
  13. As I said before, haters gonna hate.
  14. You do not know this as fact, so don't state it as such. Pablo probably has lost about 20 pounds from what he weighed at the end of the season last season. The 17% body fat is another story, but it's quite possible that he did lose weight during the offseason and reported to camp in better condition than when he left last season. By all accounts, Pablo has looked good in ST so far. Merloni said that his swing this year is like day and night from last year. He may or may not be good this season, but unlike the rest of you here who have already made up your minds about him, I'm going to let him play a few games before I crucify him.
  15. It's interesting that on the one hand Henry said that the Sox relied too heavily on numbers, then on the other hand he said that the Sox weren't as much into analytics as most people thought.
  16. And the knee-jerk reaction to that collapse brought us Bobby Valentine. Knee-jerk reactions are not good.
  17. No one has ever said otherwise.
  18. Unfortunately, this is Henry overreacting to the past 2 seasons. Since he became the owner of the Sox, the team has been one of the most successful franchises in baseball, winning 3 World Series Championships by being ahead in the game in analytics. For him to do a complete 180 on his philosophy is a complete knee-jerk reaction to two bad seasons. Passan nails it in this article: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/wicked-mistake--owner-admits-red-sox--overly-relied-on-numbers-045735533-mlb.html
  19. They apparently monitored Pablo very closely, and were pleased by what they saw during the offseason.
  20. Yes they are.
  21. This is what the media does. No one should be surprised that they are running wild with Pablo and Hanley stories. While both players give us reason for concern, the media is making them both much bigger issues than they need to be, and the fans are eating it up. Good grief.
  22. It would have been nice if Pablo showed up to camp a little thinner, but the bottom line is going to be whether he performs or not. If he performs, no one will care that he's fat. He didn't perform last year, and so he is taking all kinds of criticism for being fat, despite the fact that he's been fat his entire career. FTR, Dombrowski is not concerned. He has said that the team sent someone to check on him regularly throughout the offseason and that they were pleased with how hard Pablo worked. He apparently is about 20-25 pounds lighter than he was at the end of the season last year. The Sox will have him on a conditioning program throughout the season. Dombrowski does not seem like the type to enable Pablo. If he says he's not concerned with Pablo's condition, then I believe that he's not concerned.
