  1. Short and to the point. And 100% correct.
  2. It's really difficult to pinpoint one. As you say, we have many options. If I had to choose one, it would be Pedroia. I could make a case for about 7-8 players though, even Vazquez, who doesn't have flashy numbers.
  3. The key is that we're winning. And we're winning in Price's starts, despite his poor outings. If we were losing, it would be a completely different story. Price is a competitor. He'll figure it out.
  4. Danks, who was supposed to pitch in this series, was just DFA'd by the White Sox.
  5. I really dislike the 8:00 start time. That said, keep it rolling boys! Go Sox!
  6. Good to see Notin here. Wondering why he isn't posting....
  7. Hi Jane, welcome aboard!
  8. Hi Roy. I hope you decide to stay.
  9. This is something I have to give Farrell credit for. Price obviously wanted to stay in the game and get a little redemption against ARod. Farrell gave him that chance. Sometimes, that little show of confidence from your manager and a small victory like getting ARod out after being beaten by him twice before goes a long way. Not that Price necessarily needs a boost in confidence, but good on Farrell for showing Price that he has that confidence in him.
  10. I have read that the Sox would not want to play tomorrow, but would rather play a double header during their next series at Fenway.
  11. People should be able to debate the topics that they want to debate. Anyone who is not interested in a topic can simply ignore it.
  12. Don't look at me. I have acknowledged his mistakes several times over. Just because I don't think he is responsible for the Pablo signing doesn't mean that I haven't acknowledged mistakes. Pablo just doesn't fit his MO, at all. I have never said that he was perfect. I do, however, think that he gets far more blame and far less credit than he deserves.
  13. Ben had the difficult task of "rebuilding" while trying to keep the team competitive. That means filling holes with short term free agents and not trading away the farm while giving some of our youngster time to develop. In 2013, his plan worked to perfection. In 2014 and 2015, not so much. As far as I recall, the players that most teams were asking for anyway were Bogaerts and Betts. Those two were not going anywhere.
  14. Besides the SSS, the team is currently doing very well. The offense is not having difficulty scoring runs, for the most part. If the offense were scuffling, then perhaps it would not be too soon to think about some line up changes. Because line up changes make such little difference, moving Mookie out of the lead off spot might do more harm than good. That would be for Farrell to decide should it come to that.
  15. That depends on whether the non lefty-righty line up is set up correctly or not. Alternating L-R-L-R just for the sake of doing that is not necessarily correct, but it is more beneficial than the prototypical line up. It does, no doubt. The better hitters need to be at the top of the order. Have to disagree here. Your best OPS guy should bat 4th. The best OPS guy is "wasted" in the 3 hole since that slot statistically comes up to bat with 2 outs and no one on more than any other slot.
  16. Oh geez Thunder. Well, you will get your chance to hear Hawk in the coming series. I recently found out that I get MLB.TV free with my Extra Innings package. Why does this excite me? Because unlike with Extra Innings, I get to choose which feed I listen to. Not having to listen to Hawk is a dream come true.
  17. 1. Giving Swihart more of a chance (8 games, really?) to establish himself as a starting catcher at the big league level. 2. Not rushing Vazquez. He might be ready, but Wieters also thought he was ready. He suffered some setbacks because he was rushed back. I would like to make it clear again that I much prefer Vazquez catching. I still believe the FO acted rashly in that decision.
  18. They are not necessarily bad things and things are going very well right now. A sense of urgency equates to "win now". My concern has always been with the long term ramifications.
  19. I am not concerned with whether the team has cushion or not. I am concerned with Papi possibly having to go through the humiliation, if you will, of being moved down in the order at best, or being benched or sent on a phantom DL stint at worst. He will still be a baseball legend no matter what, but I would rather see him go out on a high note, on his terms, rather than trying to hold on too long and putting himself and the team in a less than ideal spot.
  20. Surprisingly, to me anyway, Xander is the current team leader in baserunning runs above average at 1.9. Mookie is 2nd at 1.3. Pedroia is last on the team with -1.1 and Hanley is 2nd to last with -0.7.
  21. Yes, the Sox baserunning does partly explain their runs scored. The team has scored 2.4 runs above average due to base running. They rank 3rd in that category. That said, neither stolen bases or HRs have a very strong correlation with runs scored. The single stat that correlates best with runs scored remains OBP, with which the Sox are 1st in the AL. That is the main reason why they lead the league in runs scored. As exciting as stolen bases and home runs can be, simply getting on base at a high clip is what typically drives the run count up.
  22. I think we all hate to see Papi leave, but he needs to go out on his terms. It would be awful if he decided to play another year, then really fell of the cliff. It's sad to see baseball greats try to hang on too long. Think of the difficult position that also puts the manager in.
  23. On point one, we'll have to disagree. Again, any one move made does not spell panic. The collective moves made, beginning with the firing of Ben, spell panic to me. Call it a sense of urgency if you wish, but that's just semantics. I honestly do not believe that Vazquez would have been called up so quickly if the team were playing better. That said, once Vazquez was called up, sending Swihart down was absolutely the right move.
  24. I agree, it would really stink if we can't get this game in. Besides having no Sox baseball to watch, which is always a bummer, we need to pounce on the Yanks while they're scuffling. Come on weather gods!
