  1. Exactly what signs are in his stats after the break that showed that Koji was breaking down?
  2. Pedroia is currently the best defensive 2B in baseball according to the metrics. He looks pretty good by the eye test too.
  3. Betts' knee injury has me concerned. It doesn't sound like it's anything serious, but these 'day to day' injuries have not worked out well for us. Hoping for the best.
  4. I agree. I don't think they should call him up before September unless our situation becomes dire. We are nowhere near that point.
  5. I think Dombrowski is very serious about getting another starter. I believe that he and Henry are all in this season. That doesn't necessarily mean that he will get one, but if there's a way to get a top starter without getting completely hosed in the deal, I think he will pull the trigger.
  6. No doubt it would gut the farm. As I said, wishful thinking on my part. I am only thinking about how awesome the return would be, not the cost.
  7. He probably could have gone deeper, and may have even escaped the inning unscathed. Not that I'm saying Farrell made the wrong call (I was okay with him pulling ERod, but I would have been okay with Farrell leaving him in the game also), just saying that I am pleased with ERod's performance. Any loss is disappointing, but that is a positive we can take from this game.
  8. Disappointing loss. After we got the first two on, I was sure we would be walking off. It wasn't meant to be. As much as we all would love it, it's very tough to sweep any team in a 4 game series. As you said, we need the next 2. Price and Porcello will shut them down.
  9. The 2013 Napoli was a better defensive 1B than Hanley, but there is no way you can say that about the 2016 Napoli without either having watched both players play nearly every game or looking at the metrics.
  10. The point is that after the break, he was showing no signs of overuse, fatigue, or breaking down.
  11. There have been rumors that Dombrowski is trying for a Sale/Robertson package. How nice would that be? I know it's wishful thinking and the price would be astronomical, but a gal can dream.
  12. I just can't see picking up someone like Quintana without having to grossly overpay. If we could get a top pitcher without gutting the farm, I'm all in.
  13. Absolutely - part of the long term ramifications that I was talking about. I do not at all agree with the 'win now at any cost' mentality.
  14. ^^Winner. IMO, the importance of a veteran, defensive minded back up catcher is often understated.
  15. 2013 was actually part of the longer 5 year plan to get us to 2016.
  16. Absolutely. I am a Cherington fan. I think he is cut from the same cloth as Theo, and IMO, their team building philosophy is spot on. That's not to say that they did not make mistakes, but I think both are very good GMs who could have been even better without the meddling from higher ups. It seems that other organizations have a lot of respect for Ben.
  17. I completely understand this view. I agree with it for the most part. I just think there are other factors to take into consideration such as need, cost, long term ramifications, etc.
  18. Because when I see players like ARod or Cruz helping their team win, it makes me sick to my stomach. All I think is what a freaking cheater. I am not naive enough to think that all Red Sox players were always clean. As much as I loved Manny when he was here, I would not want him back on my team now, knowing what I know. IMO, the Ortiz case is different, for many reasons that have already been stated. If he failed a drug test today, I would have a difficult time rooting for him, even with his great legacy.
  19. Absolutely. And if I'm not mistaken, the heart of the order was due up. Add to this that Koji doesn't do as well coming into the middle of an inning, there was nothing at all wrong with Farrell's decision.
  20. The 'Barnes is younger' argument works fine until Barnes gets injured due to overuse.
  21. There are many other considerations to take into account besides just looking at how many innings each reliever has pitched. I don't think anyone is going to be happy with Farrell's decision to bring a lesser reliever into a one run game if Koji is available, just because the lesser reliever has pitched fewer innings. You might not feel the need for Koji or Kimbrel to pitch with a 4 run lead, but IMO, it is certainly a reasonable decision, and at times, it is the choice that really should be made.
  22. I don't think this team will quite make it to 97 wins, but it's not out of the realm of possibility. Either way, if we win the division, it doesn't really matter whether we win 90 games or 100 games. Early in the year, several of us mentioned how this team reminded us of 2013. Then June came, and all hope was lost for many. Now we're back to making comparisons to 2013. The point is that it's a long season so we should try not to ride the highs or the lows too strongly.
  23. Jon Heyman Retweeted John Perrotto early names heard for twins: anthopoulos, byrnes, cherington, ng, woodfork (krivsky, anthony inside)
  24. This is a big outing for ERod. May the streak continue! Go Sox!
