  1. I am wondering what you would think of this move if Dombrowski had made a comparable deal for Chapman? You seem to agree with the idea of being all in, regardless of the effect on the farm system.
  2. New series - need to start off with a win. Just get it done! Go Sox!!!
  3. Good posts regarding Farrell in this thread. I agree. I've always felt that the off field managing is far more important than the in game decisions. IMO, Farrell does a very good job with that aspect of managing.
  4. It is interesting that a few posters view Price as the possible 5th starter going forward.
  5. From what I've gathered from Dombrowski's comments, Moncada is as close to an untouchable as anyone can be. He is not going anywhere.
  6. As I posted to Dojji, it's a fair point. But still. You don't cut up the entire team's uniforms. You state your case on the matter, and if the team fails to budge, you suck it up and go out and pitch the best you can. If you pitch like crap, you know you did your best.
  7. Honestly, I sometimes don't even know what to make of your posts. You can't be serious with this.
  8. Fair post. We really have no idea about what is going on behind the scenes. However, regardless of what the situation may be, Sale's behavior was not only immature, it was way out of line, not to mention selfish. Sale did not make his start because of this incident. He let his team down.
  9. I have nothing against the argument that you presented, and nothing against the stats that you quoted. They are all good stats to use and, as always, the more you look at, the better the story you'll get. I'm not sure that one particular stat is clearly better than any of the others. That said, Siera and xFIP are the two best predictors of future ERA. If I were going to make a bet on who will be our best pitcher going forward, I would go with Price, then Porcello, then Wright, in that order.

    The Cubs

I can't blame him for that, considering the circumstances with Lucchino.
  11. Definitely going all in. I would hardly call it a panic move, though it was a huge overpay. And the Cubbies don't have a monster to feed. As far as his tenure being a failure if they don't win the WS, that is probably true of any GM's tenure with any team. The goal is to get your team to the playoffs. The GM can't really control what happens once you're there.
  12. Very nice deal for the Yankees. And the worst part about it as a Red Sox fan is that I don't think it really hurts your chances to still make a run this year, slim as those chances might be.

    The Cubs

Don't hate Theo just because he is so good.

    The Cubs

If Dombrowski had made this deal for Chapman, I would not be happy. I'm surprised Theo gave up that much for a 2 month rental. It's not one of his finer moments. I can understand being all in and wanting to put an end to the drought, but IMO, it's not wise to give up that much for a 2 month reliever, which doesn't guarantee you anything. OTOH, if the Cubs do win it all this year, the deal will be worth it.
  15. I think he's more ticked off about the 'no brainer' comments.
  16. Verlander has been really good in his last 4 starts, albeit two of those starts were against the Rays and the Twins. I agree that this is an important start for Pomeranz, not only in terms of winning the game, but also in terms of Pomeranz' confidence. We all know how brutal the fans and the media can be. The last thing we want is for him to get off to a poor start here and not be able to recover under the continual microscope.
  17. Of course. Last year it was a stupid move and this year, after a terrible season, it's a no brainer.
  18. I don't think his option gets picked up this year, but I would not be upset if it did.
  19. I often joke about this when I'm watching Price pitch. I don't feel more confident in Buchholz, but I think there would be less of a letdown if Buchholz pitched poorly because there are lower expectations. I understand where you're coming from.
  20. That is a possibility as well. At any rate, teams will often keep a player who has no options on the roster over a more deserving player who does have options. It may not be the popular move, but it is usually the wise move. I read this morning that KC may have interest in Buchholz.
  21. Yes, I am. While I really wanted him on my team, I was never in favor of gutting the farm for him, or any other player. After this recent incident, there is no way I'd pay anything close to what they're asking. It may be nothing, but seriously, cutting up the entire team's uniforms because you don't want to wear them? Who does that?
  22. In the case of the White Sox, they have every right to ask for the moon for Sale and Quintana. They are not that far away from being contenders, or in other words, they are not in rebuild mode. Unless they are truly having clubhouse issues with Sale, if they aren't absolutely blown away by an offer, they keep him and build the team around him.
  23. The thing about selling the farm to get a package like Sale/Robertson is that even with an acquisition like that, nothing is guaranteed. Then you have also jeopardized the team for several years down the road. The comments I've been reading from Dombrowski lead me to believe that he will not trade for a rental. He is all in for this year, but he wants pieces that will help the team win for the next 2-3 years as well.
  24. Mookie has had virtually no off days this season until the past couple of games. I think his knee injury is just normal wear and tear of a grueling season. All of the players are beat up in one way or another by this point of the season. I don't think it's anything to be overly concerned about.
