  1. I am glad Lucchino is gone too. My impression (and I heard rumblings somewhere) was that Lackey did not appreciate the way that the FO handled Lester's contract negotiations. Supposedly, it was their disrespect towards Lester, followed by what was perceived disrespect towards Lackey with their unwillingness to renegotiate Lackey's contract, that turned Lackey off to wanting to play for the minimum. It wasn't the amount of money, per se, but rather the lack of respect. All speculation, of course.
  2. There are people in the last few pages of this thread still talking up HFA.
  3. There have been several articles posted here that give you the stats that show you just how little HFA means. No one ever said that HFA didn't exist. What we have posted was that HFA is not nearly as important as some people here make it out to be. A 51.25% advantage really is negligible, considering that the better team usually has HFA. You have spent pages on this thread defending HFA as though we have been posting something that you disagree with. So, either you have softened your stance about it as the debate has gone on, or you're just arguing for the sake of arguing. Otherwise, just say that you agree.
  4. It's all I need.
  5. If it were up to me, Ben would still be here seeing his plan come to fruition. I am not a fan of what I perceive to be Dombrowski's philosophy in building a team. I share your concerns about him trading away the farm. That said, he hasn't yet done anything too damaging to the long term outlook of our team. I'm keeping my eye on him though. LOL
  6. ^^ This!!! I have said many times that Ben should have been allowed to see his plan come to fruition. Our team should have been competitive in both 2014 and 2015, IMO. Ben cannot be held responsible for what took place on the field in terms of underperformances. And I still do not believe that Ben would have signed Pablo without directives from higher ups. Pablo is just not a Ben type move.
  7. Ha. That's the only response that line deserves.
  8. Despite what some people think, Henry does not have an unlimited payroll. He may not reset this year, but he will be looking to reset at least by next year, which means he can't go out and sign several large free agent contracts.
  9. I agree 100% with this. FTR, I don't think that Xander was demoted. I think that he thought that he had been demoted. If that's the case, then that attitude is a little disconcerting. But as Southpaw said, Xander was very young at that time.
  10. But I don't think Xander was moved to 3rd because of any inability of his own. He was moved to 3rd out of necessity when Middlebrooks got injured. The FO could not find a viable 3B replacement, so signing Drew and moving Xander to 3rd was the best option for the team.
  11. Yes, they have. Yourself included, thought not in so many words.
  12. ^^This!!!
  13. I am concerned. Hazen was one of the last Theo/Cherington disciples who were offering some balance to Dombrowski, IMO. Wren's baseball philosophy and ideals are too similar to Dombrowski's. We need someone like Hazen to complement Dombrowski.
  14. Seriously, Roberts almost makes me want to root for the Dodgers. I have said on here many times that if the Sox don't win it all, I want the Cubs to win it all, and I'm not even remotely a Dodgers fan, but Roberts has me feeling like it would be okay if the Dodgers won it all. Either way, I'm rooting for the former Sox players, manager, and GM.
  15. I agree that Holt might be more valuable to another team in need of a starter. It all comes down to what we can get back for him. I don't think Moncada will be ready for the big league roster until perhaps midseason. Also, if there's a significant injury to one of our starters, Holt becomes all the more valuable. It might make more sense to look at trading Holt at midseason.
  16. I do think that the FO needs to have somebody monitoring his progress regularly, and I think it should be more often than the 1st of every month. I am really hoping that the sting of not playing this season is enough to motivate him to stay on his program for not only the offseason, but the regular season next year as well.
  17. Thanks for laying that out for me, but IMO, you are still making some unfair assumptions. I am not going to rehash the whole 'Pablo is a lazy bum' argument, but you and others have already counted him out without giving him a chance. If you don't think he deserves another chance, that's fine. If you don't want him on the team, that's fine as well. That doesn't change the fact that what would be best for the team would be for Pablo to come back and be successful, whether he ends up playing the season for us or he ends up getting traded. Therefore, I will be pulling for him.
  18. ^^This. Holt is far more valuable to us as a utility player than he is a starter.
  19. Making a trade like this is also a vote of confidence to the team.
  20. I know that you were against the trade from the get go. IMO, it was hardly a panic move. We needed a pitcher. Iglesias was expendable. We were dealing from an area of strength. As I said, I would make that trade under the same circumstances every day of the week.
  21. Have my reasons for liking the trade changed? I think it's fair to say that winning the World Series makes the trade even sweeter, since that was the point, but that doesn't change my original reasons for liking the trade. Put it this way, had we not won the World Series, I'd still do that trade over again every time. Now without the championship, the trade might not end up being worth it, in hindsight. But I still believe strongly that for a team trying to win it all, you have to do it.
  22. Let me first say that I am not suggesting that we simply hand the job over to Pablo. Shaw absolutely deserves a chance to fight for keeping his job, and Pablo has to prove that he is able to do the job better than Shaw. OTOH, I also don't think anyone should be ruling Pablo out either based on what happened this year. He gets the chance to prove or disprove that he is the best man for the job. I am using at Fangraphs WAR. Our collective 3B WAR this season was 0.8, which puts us 29th out of 30 teams. Shaw was a 1.5 WAR player, but he had 0.8 WAR in April and 0.8 WAR in May. You can do the math to figure out what kind of player he was for most of the remainder of the season. We could definitely use an upgrade at that position. If Shaw can bounce back and be close to the April/May player, than I'm all in for that. If he's going to be the replacement level player that he was the remainder of the season, then that won't cut it. I'm pulling for Shaw. But then I'm also pulling for Pablo.
  23. The season was actually a brilliant success for Theo and Ben, with Dombrowski swooping in to take more credit for it than he deserves. Henry really should have given Ben the chance to see his plan come to fruition. This is Ben's exciting young core, not Dombrowski's.
  24. Exactly. I have not been the biggest fan of Dombrowski's philosophy, and was never a fan of the Price contract or the cost of Kimbrel, but Dombrowski cannot be blamed for any disappointment brought about by those two players. They were the best available. If Price becomes an albatross in years 5, 6, or 7, Dombrowski does get some blame for that. But not Price's performance in the first few years of the contract.
