    He didn't want to stay working for Lucchino, whose philosophy deeply opposed his own. Working under Lucchino meant that Theo had to sacrifice his organizational philosophy and integrity. If you want to blame him for leaving under those conditions, go right ahead. I can't blame him for leaving.

    Because you need a reason to detract from Theo's accomplishments. He asked for permission to interview because he was forced to leave.

    Theo is THE MAN. He is a baseball genius who understands how to build winning teams. Some of us have been singing his praises since 2004. Others of us (Yankees fans) couldn't admit how great he was until after he left the Red Sox. And still others of us still can't admit how good he is and can't give him the credit he deserves. Why? I don't know.

    I think out of all the players, I am the happiest for David Ross. Congrats to the Cubbies and their fans. Bummer for Francona and the Guardians, but thanks to both teams for a great series with a great finish. Go baseball!

    I am really nervous for this game too. I will also be happy for whichever team wins, and I will feel really bad for whichever team loses. Go baseball!

    The World Series has gone to a Game 7 thirty-seven times. The home team has won 18 of those games and the road team has won 19 of them.

    Though I have no proof, I am never going to believe that Pablo was a Cherington move. It just doesn't fit into his MO. That move has Lucchino written all over it.

    Exactly. I still think Ben should have been given the opportunity to see his plan through. IMO, the team never should have finished in last place in 2014 or 2015, and it was kind of fluky that they did. Also IMO, the 2016 team would have finished in first place had Ben still been GM. The team was primed to do so before Dombrowski ever entered the picture.

    No, there's not really one significant incident. Little things that seem to draw controversy or 'bother' his teammates, like barking at the umps a lot over strike calls, things he said regarding his contract negotiations at the beginning of the year, or statements like the ones he made this postseason regarding 'circumstances' or 'boots'. They may be nothing. A fellow poster who lives in Canada seems to think that he rubs people the wrong way and that the Jays really don't want him back. Again, it may be nothing, or it may be something.

    I give Dombrowski credit for having a plan, and getting it done. As you said, he makes things happen. He got us the best free agent pitcher and the best closer available. I'm not happy with the prices that he paid for them, but I do like the quality of the players that he got. Price was a bit of a disappointment, but that is not Dombrowski's fault. I really liked the trade for Smith. Our long term outlook has not been sacrificed. All in all, so far, I have no major complaints. As I have said in other threads, though, I remain concerned with the direction that the philosophy of the team might be headed.

    Seriously? You're going to say that 2013 was mostly Theo's team, yet you're going to give Dombrowski credit for the 2016 team? For one, Ben was Theo's right hand man when Theo was GM. Ben gets some credit for "Theo's team", unlike Dombrowski, who had nothing to do with the players already in place when he took over. For two, the only reason that Dombrowski was able to make the moves that he did was because of the strong farm and the strong core of young players on the big league team, put in place by Theo and Ben. For three, even without points one and two, I would venture to guess that 2013 was more Ben's team than 2016 is Dombrowski's team.

    When your farm system has been ranked so highly by several different people who rank these things, your draft and development department is doing something very right. Yes, they've lagged on the pitching side of things, but I think there are two significant contributing factors to that. One is that they haven't typically had high draft picks. Two is that their philosophy was typically to draft the best player available rather than draft a position of need. I'm not saying that we don't need improvement in the area of developing our own pitching, but I think you're selling them a little short.

    That makes sense, but if they still view him as a catcher, they took away one year of development that he really could have benefited from.
