  1. I agree. I like that we got Rutledge back.
  2. That Theo is a smart guy... Koji is the man. Best of luck to him wherever he goes.
  3. Fair point about Sandoval not facing MLB pitching for 18 months. It would be a mistake for the Sox not to have a solid Plan B. That said, I think I'm a little more optimistic about him than most. I don't expect an All-Star, but I think he can be a solid player for us both offensively and defensively.
  4. And I'm here. I'm always here.
  5. Of course Dombrowski knows what he's doing. I never said otherwise.
  6. That's the key. This team is absolutely better for the shorter run. If we win a title or two, it will have been worth it. My issue is that I think the team was already set up very well for the shorter term, as well as being set up very well for the longer term. Now we're set up for the shorter term only. John Henry has this tendency to panic and overreact, IMO.
  7. Ha.
  8. It's not the trades that I disagree with. It's the overall philosophy of gutting the farm system for a 'win now' mentality. This team was in pretty good shape to 'win now' before Dombrowski further gutted the farm. People seem to be forgetting that the only reason that Dombrowski is able to do what he has done is because of the strong farm system and the strong young core that were built here by Theo and Ben. Disagree all you want, but building a strong franchise begins with a strong farm. Yes, you use that strong farm to fill in some holes. But you don't gut the farm at the expense of long term outlook of the team. Of course Dombrowski is a good GM. I have given him credit many times where I believe it was due. However, I am very likely never going to agree with the win now at any cost philosophy, with no regard to the long term.
  9. Tomasse nailed it in his article at WEEI yesterday. The title says it all. IT'S POSSIBLE TO LIKE CHRIS SALE TRADE, BUT HATE WHAT IT REPRESENTS It's almost like he was in my head today when he wrote this. My sentiments exactly.
  10. No, we don't know that. It remains to be seen. I am just not a fan of the Dombrowski philosophy. I am curious as to why our top scouting people, who were very good, have left.
  11. To be better than Ben, there would have to be a World Series Championship.
  12. Obviously, I am joking about being doomed. We have a very good team and should be strong favorites in the AL, not that that guarantees anything (see 2011). Dombrowski has put this team in great shape for the next 3 years or so. As a Sox fan, I am very excited and happy about that. We have no idea what will happen once this window has passed. Hopefully, Dombrowski makes it a priority to replenish and build the farm back up. If he doesn't, it could be very ugly for a few years. Some people would say who cares about 5 years down the road. Well, once 5 years down the road gets here, they will care greatly. IMO, the job of the GM is to strike a balance between short and long terms so that the team remains competitive year in and year out. Dombrowski doesn't seem to have much use for the long term, which is unfortunate.
  13. It sounds like Hanley is going to get a lot of DH time regardless of the handedness of the opposing pitcher.
  14. Because Dombrowski said so, so it is fact!!!
  15. Because Theo's philosophy is the right one.
  16. Of course, but we don't know what the quality of those prospects will be. Also, there's a good chance that Dombrowski will continue to trade them away.
  17. Ha. We're really DOOMED!
  18. Many of our top scouting people took jobs elsewhere. We're DOOMED!
  19. I'm not sure what all the talk of the 2-3 year window was about. Our team was set up to be contenders for the foreseeable future - much longer than 2-3 years. I realize we were losing players after that period, but you gain new players. Now that we no longer have a farm system, we truly have a 2-3 year window.
  20. Dombrowski is no Theo. His philosophy is all wrong.
  21. When I am wrong, I acknowledge it. It's just that I'm not wrong very often. FTR, I never said Pablo wouldn't flounder, just that he deserves a fair chance and that people should stop the character assassination. However, I do think he will rebound.
  22. Not only impact pitchers, but defense as well. I think that is a bigger reason for signing Moreland than his offense, since he will presumably be playing quite a bit of 1B over Hanley.
  23. Dombrowski is the antithesis of Theo and Ben. The thing is, he might have turned the team into a juggernaut, but we were already contenders. And we were long term contenders. Now we are short term contenders. What concerns me is what is on the other side of the 3 year window.
  24. No doubt the moves that Dombrowski has made have made us a better team. We are most definitely all in and should be strong favorites in the AL. My issue is not with the Sale trade, per se. Or with the Thornburg trade, which I actually like quite a bit. My issue is with the overall body of work that Dombrowski has done in 18 months, namely, gutting the farm. This was my concern with Dombrowski since day one. I understand that part of the reason for building a strong farm is to be able to trade for players like Sale. The Sale trade in and of itself would be acceptable, even though we paid a steep price. Gutting a well stocked farm system to 'win now' is not acceptable. Sure, this team is now in very good shape for about 3 years. But we were in very good shape for 7-8 years, or more, when we had a farm system.
