  1. You keep comparing what Dombrowski is doing to what Theo has done. Yes, Theo is making the moves to put his team over the top. He is not gutting his farm to do so. The Cubs look to be good for the foreseeable future. The Sox were competitive teams after both 2004 and 2007. The situations are not the same.
  2. Not sure why you can't just make a post without taking a shot at people who disagree with you all the time.
  3. Yes, anybody could have signed Lester for $20 mil more than the next highest competitor.
  4. I thought that we paid too much for Kimbrel, because not only did we give up all the prospects, but we also had to pay Kimbrel free agent money. A double whammy. However, I then said that I was okay with what Dombrowski had done up to that point because, despite giving up 4 prospects, he had not sacrificed our future.....yet. If you recall, I also was okay with trading Espinoza for Pomeranz, because it needed to be done. And our farm was still in good shape. But Dombrowski has since gone on to sacrifice our future.
  5. I'm in Virginia. Too far from Ft. Myers. Winter has not officially begun, and I am already ready for shorts and flip flop weather to return. LOL
  6. Dombrowski should shortly start turning his attention to extending some of our youngsters. I don't think it will be possible to retain all of them, but extending some of them would certainly help our longer term outlook.
  7. And nobody is suggesting that we go exclusively with the farm.
  8. It's a baseball forum and it's what we do. I am fully embracing the team we have now. I will thoroughly enjoy watching our team this season. That doesn't mean that I can't be concerned about the long term.
  9. IMO, we could have done nothing this offseason and been a strong contender. I think we would have still been the favorites to win the AL East. As the saying goes, once you get to the playoffs, anything can happen. So yes, it's quite possible that we could have won anyway, and we would still have a strong farm.
  10. The title is important. Unfortunately, selling the farm does not guarantee anything.
  11. Harmony, you do seem a little obsessed with Clay. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
  12. I do blame Henry as well. I have said more than once that he tends to panic and overreact. My feeling is that Henry hired Dombrowski with the directive to get this team back to the playoffs. I'm not sure that Henry necessarily created or promoted the shift in philosophy, but he was willing to allow Dombrowski free reign to get the job done. I have also said more than once that he should have allowed Ben to see his long term plan come to fruition. I am 99% confident that we would have made the playoffs in 2016 with Ben still at the helm.
  13. Of course. It's usually the case that the team that gets the free agent is the one that pays the most. But you can't really compare what Theo has done with the Cubs to what Dombrowski has done so far with the Red Sox. It's not even close, for several reasons.
  14. Well, another concern is that several of our top scouting people recently left. We have no choice but to wait it out and see what our team looks like in 3-5 years. In the meantime, at least we should have a very exciting, young team to watch!
  15. I have no problem with any single move by itself. I have a problem with the change in organizational philosophy that Dombrowski has brought.
  16. I agree with this. I've said that if we win a World Series in the next 3 years than it will all be worth it, even if both Moncada and Kopech go on to be perennial All Stars.
  17. Thank you for this post. I said the same thing last offseason after we got Price and Kimbrel. Dombrowski overpaid the next higher offer for Price by $30 million. Geez, I can do that. Dombrowski is a smart baseball guy, and I'm not trying to take that away from him. But as far as him being some awesome GM because he gets the players that he targets, not so much. Honestly, I could do that if I had no regard to cost or to the future of this franchise. As I have said many times, he has only been able to do what he has done because of the farm and the team that Theo and Ben left him. I'm not nearly as impressed as most.
  18. Yeah, I probably shouldn't have said 'good chance' but just 'a chance'. Dombrowski's a smart man. I'll remain hopeful until I can't anymore.
  19. I can only hope that now that he has our short term set, he focuses on replenishing the farm. I have moved further south where it's not quite as cold, but the 30 degree temps we had last night were cold enough for me. It was dark when I drove to work yesterday morning, and it was dark when I drove home from work. April cannot get here soon enough for me. Merry Christmas!
  20. LOL While I disagree with Dombrowski's team building philosophy so far, I do realize that he's been a GM for a long time and that he knows more about building baseball teams than I do. I still strongly disagree with his tearing down of our farm, but I'm willing to give him a chance to make it right. People seem to think he can and will do it. Maybe he can.
  21. But once this short term period is over, will we be able to fill any roster spots with home grown talent? We no longer have a strong farm.
  22. I have posted many times that I'm very excited about our team for the short term. I realize that many of our top prospects graduated to the major league team. Why? Because Theo and Ben refused to part with them. Even with all of the young players now graduated to the majors, our farm system was still ranked as the best and had other GMs in awe. Our long term outlook beyond this '3 year window' was very promising. It no longer is. We really do indeed have a short window in which to get it done.
  23. LOL I'm very happy. I'm always happy. Usually.
  24. I will take it too, if it gets us another World Series banner. That is the ultimate goal. It will most assuredly get us to the playoffs, but we all know that anything can happen once we're there. FTR, Theo lined up a max peak team in 04 and with the Cubs in 16, but he did not gut the farm in either situation to do so. I just think that we could be in nearly as good of shape for the short term as we are not AND not sacrificed our long term.
  25. No, he can't. It's Pablo or bust.
