  1. I like this post too. One really good thing about Sale, Price, and Porcello is that all 3 of them are likely to pitch deep into games more often than not, and all 3 are likely to give us close around 200 innings. That is huge. Because of that, my concern about our starting pitching depth has lessened. However, I would still hang on to Buchholz and our other starters. I can see roster issues necessitating a trade though.
  2. IMO, the changes that are being made in MLB, along with the ever escalating costs of free agents, make the value of a strong farm system that much more important. I know it sounds like it, but I'm not at the point of wringing my hands. I'm just voicing my concerns, which have been my concerns about Dombrowski since he took over. There's a good chance that by 3 years, our farm system will be very strong. I do not want to be the team that George's Yankees were, just because we have the money. I get so much more enjoyment/satisfaction out of watching home grown players play than I do from 'superstar' studs that were acquired elsewhere.
  3. I am not at all disappointed with the players that Dombrowski got in return. I am thrilled with the short term outlook of our team. The next few years should be very exciting for us. I agree that our farm is not completely gutted, but it did take a huge hit. Dombrowski may surprise me and replenish the farm over the next few years. I certainly hope so.
  4. Back to back last place finishes that really should not have been. In both of those years, our team should have contended, but did not due more to fluky underperformances, not due to the talent of the team that was assembled. There's a difference between that and being in a situation that the Cubs were in when Theo took over and had to rebuild from the ground up. No one is concerned about falling off the cliff in 3 years because it's too far away. We'll be hating it though if we go into 3 seasons knowing up front that our team has NO chance of contending because we're rebuilding. The goal is to be able to rebuild, or rather replenish, while remaining competitive. You don't do that by gutting the farm.
  5. I recently read an article at Fangraphs about how eerily similar Moreland and Shaw are, not only in their career stats but also in their projections for next season. Moreland was not signed to try to replace Papi, but rather to replace Shaw.
  6. No, what should concern any Sox fan is what Dombrowski has done to our farm system.
  7. Not if that production is made up elsewhere. The offense is an area of the team where we could afford to take a little hit, and still be very, very, good.
  8. It doesn't matter. We just all know to agree with me.
  9. I do agree with the idea that the team should have an established arm as the closer. I don't agree that one should pay out a long term contract to do so. I loved Papelbon and have been one of his biggest supporters, but I would never have given him the contract the Phillies gave him. I would never give Chapman the contract that the Yankees gave him. You can find a reliever who will provide almost as much value, if not as much value, for a fraction of the cost.
  10. I was reading about how Sale might really be helped by our catchers' pitch framing skills. The White Sox catchers all had negative runs saved last season, and Alex Avila and Dioner Navarro were among the worst in baseball.
  11. Agree on Moreland. I think he's a good fit.
  12. Those lights out guys often come out of nowhere. You don't have to spend a fortune on them.
  13. That is insane. So doesn't that make his new baby a great, great uncle to the great grandchild? LOL
  14. I thought it was hilarious. Good one Youk!
  15. Of course we have several farm system players excelling in the majors, because Theo and Ben know the importance of building a strong farm system. I'm thrilled with the way our team is set up for the next few years. But I'm also concerned with the direction that Dombrowski is taking this team. He may very well replenish the farm system and set us up for the long haul, but until he does, I'm allowed to voice my concerns. FTR, before he gutted our farm, we were set up well for the short term and the long haul.
  16. Could be. It wouldn't surprise me.
  17. You crack me up. I expect Price will return to his pre-2016 form.
  18. I just strongly disagree with the philosophy of winning now at any cost. Everyone knows that the key to building a strong franchise is building a strong farm system. Dombrowski may surprise me, but from what I've seen of him recently, building a strong farm and balancing the short term with the long term do not seem to be priorities of his. I've been reading some blurbs of how the Sox and the Yankees have reversed roles, and how we have become George Steinbrenner's Yankees, to which there is a lot of truth. Think about how, as Sox fans, we always hated the way the Yankees did business. I don't like it one bit. Thank goodness we do have a strong core of young homegrown players to get us through the next few years. The team will definitely be exciting to watch for the short term. Thank you Ben.
  19. But you have to wonder about Dombrowski's track record in terms of drafting and developing with the Tigers. Their farm system has been terrible for several years running. If I'm not mistaken, this past year is the first year in about 3 or 4 years that they have not been ranked last. They're up to 2nd to last.
  20. I heard on the radio this morning that Mick Jagger became a father again at the age of 73. His girlfriend is in her later 30s.
  21. You and I are in complete agreement on this. I have said this over and over again.
  22. Except, it really doesn't. Not in terms of assessing how good the offense is. Losing Papi's offense hurts. But the Sox will simply go from being the best offense in the league by 100 runs to merely being one of the best offenses in the league. Or, they could still be the best offense in the league, but only by 20 runs rather than 100.
  23. ^^This. Offense is not a concern to me, especially in light of the improvement in pitching.
