  1. Pablo finally took a walk yesterday, bringing his K/W ratio to 11/1. I am very pleased with what I've seen from Pablo this season, but as our good friend JoeyB points out, his K/W is something to keep an eye on.
  2. As it should be.
  3. It is unfair that guys with options sometimes end up being the odd man out, but it's also very important to maintain depth and flexibility. Teams that make it to the playoffs often do so not because of their David Prices, but because of who they have to replace their Prices when those players get injured. If you release your depth players before the season starts, it might come back to haunt you.
  4. If Price is out, he's not being replaced by a replacement pitcher. He's being replaced by Pomeranz, who is currently considered our #5 guy. The difference in projected WAR between Price and Pom is 1.4 (Steamer) or 2.5 (Zips). Losing Price for the season will also have an effect on our bullpen, which would increase the difference by a little bit. All that being taken into account, having Price out for the season, assuming the health of the rest of the rotation, is likely not going to cost us 6 wins.
  5. I think our lineup will be pretty good regardless of how Farrell draws it up. A few points that I would make about the lineup: 1. I would bat Betts in the cleanup spot, not 3rd. 2. I would start Beni down a little farther in the order to start off the season. 3. I would alternate lefties and righties as much as reasonably possible.
  6. Or maybe Bannister will be able to revive his career much like he helped revive Rich Hill's? I'm not expecting miracles, but Kendrick has worked his way to the top of the depth chart.
  7. 95 wins and a trip to the World Series
  8. Watching the game now, even though I already know the outcome. Team USA just tied it up 2-2 in the bottom of the 8th. Good pitching by both King Felix and Smyly.
  9. Besides the luxury tax issue, Farrell seems to be really high on Selsky. Things would have to be going terribly wrong in terms of OF health and/or production in order for Castillo to have any chance.
  10. It should be a good game. Unfortunately, because of the late game time, I'll have to catch it tomorrow.
  11. I am glad that the Sox took the decision out of ERod's hands.
  12. That's possible, but not necessarily the case.
  13. I would not either, but I could certainly see the FO taking extra time with him if all is going well with the rest of the rotation that they might not take if the team is struggling due to poor starts by the pitchers.
  14. Is it possible that the doctors said they didn't need to operate because he more or less goes through this every year and his elbow uniquely 'heals' itself? But if this were his first time suffering the injury at 22 years old they would suggest surgery because they would assume that he would heal on his own? Maybe from a medical standpoint that would never happen, but that's the way that I interpreted his statement.
  15. I actually do not have any links to research that has been done in recent years. I will look, but the most noted studies seem to be older studies.
  16. Or curling. Now there's an interesting sport.
  17. Thank you for the clarification.
  18. I think he probably knows more about his injury than he's letting on.
  19. This is no surprise. I am optimistic that he could be back before the end of April. However, if the others are healthy and pitching well, there's really no reason to rush him back.
  20. Good stuff S5. Thanks for posting.
  21. Thanks for the explanation. All I saw was a blurb about Mexico protesting and Adrian Gonzalez saying that he would not participate in the WBC anymore, which would be a shame to not play for that reason.
  22. Randomness and small sample size...
