  1. S5, cp, and Slasher (there may be others) have all taken the position that clutch is something more than just the absence of choke. They have all said to one extent or another that the players raise their game during clutch moments.
  2. I'll take Pomeranz and the Red Sox for the win! Get it done boys!
  3. I am not worried about our rotation. Nor am I worried about our offense. Nor am I worried about the team in general. The Playoff Party Bus is still ready to go!
  4. Who said stats can explain away everything?
  5. There are people here who have said clutch = extra ability, or at least the ability to elevate one's game.
  6. LOL Thank goodness for the much needed GIDP. I thought Barnes was going to cost Sale his W. On the bright side, Kimbrel had a 1-2-3 inning.
  7. Owens is only 24. As frustrating as he's been, it's too soon to give up on him.
  8. For Bellhorn, here's some randomness for you: The Sox outhit the Rays 14-12 in last night's game but scored 5 fewer runs. And from my favorite stat provider: Red Sox Stats‏ @redsoxstats 5h5 hours ago 1 out of every 5 fly balls allowed by Red Sox staring pitchers this year has ended up a home run. 2.3 HR/9. Red Sox batters have hit the 4th most balls in the air, have the second best hard contact %, and the worst HR/FB by a lot at 3.8%. How many well struck balls have we seen from the Sox hitters this season that have resulted in outs?
  9. @ Slasher - I'm wondering if our current offense just does not focus until the 8th inning or 9th inning?
  10. Red Sox Stats‏ @redsoxstats 5h5 hours ago Porcello's 1st 3 starts last year were pretty similar to this year. Jays torched him with homers. 19.1 IP, 4.66 ERA, 5 HR, 24 K, 3 BB
  11. It's ironic that our rotation was supposed to be our strength this year. So far, outside of Sale, that has not been the case. Christopher Smith‏Verified account @SmittyOnMLB 3h3 hours ago Subtract Chris Sale's two starts (2 runs, 14 2/3 innings) and the rest of the Red Sox rotation has posted a 7.24 ERA. Red Sox starters rank 28th in starter ERA (5.66). Tied for 25th in WHIP (1.40). Their .280 BAA is tied for the worst in the majors.
  12. That is scary indeed. Falling of a cliff scary!
  13. Ah. At least now we know who's to blame for our losses.
  14. It's funny that what was supposed to be our strength has so far been a weakness.
  15. At least Wally is relaxed.
  16. No proof needed. What else could it be? It's the same way that baseball gods frown up the lead off walk.
  17. It could be worse. We could be the Blue Jays.
  18. No one can get that big hit when we need it. This team is so not clutch.
  19. Bummer. Pain management/relief can be tough. I am not a pot smoker, but I've heard people swear by it for health reasons.
  20. Porcello will be fine. He will regress some from his Cy Young season, but he should be a solid #2. It's like the baseball gods came together and decided that Archer's losing streak against the Sox and Porcello's streak of going 6+ innings must come to an end.
  21. Good grief Rick.
  22. On the bright side, I do like Speier's geeky glasses.
  23. Exactly what I'm talking about!
  24. Not what we needed to see. Stinking Rays, with their makeshift line up. Time to chip away. Let's not wait until the 8th inning tonight.
  25. Two words: Larry Lucchino No one could overcome the Bobby Valentine fiasco.
