Papi: My Story, a book co-written by David Ortiz and Michael Holley, has continued to create headlines as of late. While the now retired Boston Red Sox slugger has seemingly ruled out a return to baseball, the heralded designated hitter just can’t remove himself from the limelight.
His latest comments stem from an interesting quote regarding his former teammate, J.D. Drew. Specifically, “Big Papi” responded with quite the surprising response when asked, “Who was the best player [you] ever saw?”
“When J.D. wanted to play, he was the best player I’ve ever seen,” said Ortiz, via Jack Dickey of Sports Illustrated. “No b.s. Listen, I said, when he wanted to play, he was the best. … Some days I wanted to kill him … he would come out of the game because his left nut was hurting. It made no sense sometimes, but that’s how he was.”
