  1. Yeah, it really ticked me off too. While Theo never directly said that he would not trade Arroyo, from what Arroyo has said, he was strongly led to believe that he would not be traded. The whole idea that baseball is a business and that the bottom line is money just bothers me, and that goes both ways, on management's side and the player's side. I would like to see more deals made out of 'loyalty', for lack of a better word.
  2. I disagree about Craig's downward spiral already starting. His 'downward spiral' was due to injury. IMO, it was reasonable to think that Craig could rebound once he was healthy. As far as landing prospects for Lackey, I get that sentiment. However, while they were not prospects, both Kelly and Craig were under team control for several years. They could have helped the team for several years from the trade date, had they performed to expectations. Acquiring them was a message to the team and to the fans that the FO was not tanking that year. I thought it was a good trade.
  3. 'Grasping at straws', just like 'a sense of urgency', sounds like code for 'panicking'. It's too early for that! Whatever happened to waiting until at least Memorial Day? Being the only cool head on this board is too much work...
  4. Perhaps not. Which again speaks to the issue of depth. I've quoted an article before that made a very good point about how teams that make it to the playoffs often do so not because of their star players, but because of the replacement players that step in when one of the regulars is out for a long time - The teams that suffer a huge injury blow, yet don't miss a beat.
  5. Sorry, I can't go there. It just goes against every fiber in my body. I don't like the instant replay that's already in place. The solution, IMO, is to demote or fire an umpire who has that bad of a strike zone. They can certainly find someone human to do a better job than that.
  6. I am a big fan of Mookie at leadoff, as I think you know. I'd also be good with him batting cleanup.
  7. Dombrowski's one failure in building this year's team (and I have said many times that he did a great job building this year's team, with a lot of help from Ben and Theo, of course) is the lack of depth. In particular, he did not plan out our 3B situation well. Guys like Holt, Rutledge, and Hernandez are good bench players for short day to day injuries or to give players a breather. They are not viable replacements for longer term injuries. My biggest concern for this season, although it wasn't a huge concern, was the lack of overall depth. We need Pablo and Hanley, as well as Holt, to get 100% healthy, and things will look better.
  8. The ump was really bad last night. That was one of the worst called games in recent memory.
  9. Welcome aboard Bama!
  10. **Raises hand** I see the team making the playoffs. Deep into October might be a different story because the playoffs are largely a crapshoot. Some would even call the playoffs largely random.
  11. Well, that's because some of us actually have to work and can't stay up til all hours of the night and can't goof off all day while at work. I'm absolutely giving Pablo another chance. Trading for Beltre (if the price is right) or calling up Devers are moves that I'd consider at the trade deadline or maybe mid to late June. It's May 12th and the Sox are 2 games over .500. We are not at the 'panic' stage.
  12. The Lackey trade looks really bad in hindsight, but I had no problem with it at the time it occurred.
  13. I am Theo's biggest fan, but I haven't forgiven him for that one. Not because of the value of the trade, but because of the way they misled Arroyo.
  14. You can be as sarcastic as you want, but that doesn't change the fact that we overpaid for Kimbrel, regardless of how dominant he is.
  15. Even more impressive than all the Ks is that it took Kimbrel only 20 pitches to record 5 Ks last night, and that's with the infield single sprinkled in there.
  16. Just WIN, dang it! That is all.
  17. Not that it's necessarily the worst signing, but the one I'd most like to undo is the Pablo signing.
  18. He turned out awesome, but I remember a lot of whining when he was first signed by the Sox.
  19. People used to always post the same thing about Francona, that the double switch was too complicated for him handle. All I have to say to that is ..
  20. Yup, I am liking Farrell' recent willingness to 'go against the grain'. That said, the Sox playing for one run in the 1st inning was a big no-no.
  21. ERod looked really good today. Very good to see.
  22. Looking at the standings is one thing. 'Panicking' over them at this point is another. How's that saying go? It's not how you start, it's where you finish.
  23. FTR, if I had to guess, I'd say Ben is to blame for Castillo. No way do I see Pablo as a Ben move.
  24. More like you hang out with us because you know how cool we are.
  25. Not worried about being 5 games back at this point, for several reasons.
