    Oh, but you know you want to go over the cliff with us. For the record, I have supported the Pom trade all along, except for the questionable medical reports and Dombrowski not backing out of the trade when he had the chance if there is indeed something seriously wrong with Pom. But in terms of the actual trade, I didn't like the what we gave up, but felt like it was a trade that needed to be done.

    Right handed batters have been hitting Miley pretty hard lately. I hate the Os and everything about them. We need to win this game and win this stinking series. Don't put me in a bad mood.

    No, it's not just bunk. But Francona could try the same types of moves every postseason for the next 10 postseasons, and the results are likely to be mixed. Perhaps it's not so much that Francona is a managerial genius as it is that Miller is an awesome reliever?

    Even if a fan watched the exact same plays in the exact same number of innings, the evaluation is likely to be biased. It's just human nature. A Red Sox fan would 'see' Bradley as the better CFer, and a Rays fan would 'see' Kiermaier as the better one.

    The "Range" part of UZR has Jackie at +3.1 runs. His overall UZR, and hence his UZR/150, has been hurt by his "Arm" runs, which are at -2.4. Advanced metrics are not likely to be 'deceived' by a player making a play look easy, even in the rankings of "difficult" plays versus "routine" plays. Those plays are not measured by the eye test, so Jackie making a play look easy would not affect the ranking.

    The team has to see what they have in Pablo. It would make no sense to DFA or bench him without giving him a fair shot. Marrero and Rutledge have filled in well, but they are not the solution to 3B. Using Marrero as a defensive replacement sounds like a good plan to me.

    Ah, I forgot about that start. That previous start, which was mediocre, is even more reason not to make any rash moves based off of his latest start. I don't disagree with the last line of your post.

    I don't get why people are so anxious to get rid of Pablo before he's been given a fair chance this year. I get that if he continues to stink it up, he needs to go. But it sounds to me like some are hoping that he continues to stink just so we can get rid of him. At the very least, there are some that don't even want to give him another chance. It would be in the best interest of this team if Pablo comes back and plays well. Don't root against him.

    I wanted to strangle Sale several times last night. When the team puts up 4 runs for him, that should be game. Oh well, at least we got the win. I guess the offense owes him a couple of games like that.

    Being deceptively good should not affect the advanced metric ratings. If anything, it would affect the eye test.

    The new defensive measurements, issues and all, do a pretty darn good job. They are certainly light years better than fielding % and errors.

    That's the thing about making roster moves or decisions about moving Pom to the pen, etc. Johnson has only made one start. I understand that it seems very unfair that he has been sent back down after pitching such a gem, but you can't make rash decisions based off of one start. If he then bombs his next several starts, it might be difficult to 'undo' the changes that have been made.

    There is no evidence of any manager being able to repeat that skill.

    No, but the manager can pretty much kick back and just "sit and spit". LOL Joking, of course. Managers do have to make in game decisions. But often times, just letting the players do their thing is the best way to manage the game.

    Well even if there is nothing important about the job, and that is not at all what I'm saying, somebody has to do it. Somebody has to run the ship. Managers have to deal with the media without creating a media circus at every turn (see Bobby valentine). A good manager will know how to get the best out of his players by the atmosphere that he creates in the clubhouse. And no, I have not given them a pass on teaching smart baserunning and fielding. I just said that those fundamentals should already be well established by the time a player reaches the major leagues.

    I was not happy with the way Pedroia handled the Machado incident, but he is one of the last players that I would consider a pansy. He is also one of the last players who would readily take himself out of a game over an insignificant injury.

    All things considered, Price looked very good. If he can stay healthy and pitch something like the pitcher we thought we were getting, our rotation will be tough to beat.

    I agree with that. Their jobs are very demanding. I'm not the one who thinks we can do away with them. I just think that the most important and demanding part of their job takes place off the field.
