  1. Red Sox Notes‏ @SoxNotes 5h5 hours ago Sox relievers have allowed 0 runs in their last 26.0 IP, the club’s longest scoreless streak since April 2004 (32.1 IP) (via @EliasSports).
  2. That's a point that was made in some of the research that I've read. The 'skills' of a manager are not repeatable. Much had been made in the recent past about how Showalter's teams 'know how to win', and that's why they were pulling off all of those close and extra inning wins. Until the following season when the Os had pretty much the same team but they were no longer pulling off those wins. Did the team suddenly forget how to win? Did Showalter suddenly forget how to get his team to win? Or maybe those things were due more to randomness than any special skill that a manger has?
  3. Exactly. Some of the prospects that we traded may have been blocked here or may never amount to anything, but the fact remains that as prospects, they hold value as trade chips. The FO should try to maximize that value.
  4. Up until their west coast trip, the Yankees had been firing on all cylinders. To date, IMO, the Sox have yet to get to that point. We've been sputtering in one aspect or another all season long. And still, we are winning games at a decent clip and are only one game behind a team that had been red hot. I think that bodes pretty well for us.
  5. Being last in dingers and first in DPs is probably fairly strongly correlated. Lots of baserunners, lots of contact without homeruns equals lots of DPs. No one expected the offense to be as good as last year's offense, but it should be better than what it has been to date. The hope was that the improvement in pitching would balance out the loss in offense. Lately, that philosophy appears to be working.
  6. The above post was made tongue in cheek, but being facetious is a far cry from being a troll. Anyway, thank you.
  7. It's all about the option. The depth at 3B is thin enough as it is without losing Rutledge.
  8. The problem is that we don't have a viable replacement option. Rutledge and/or Marrero, while better liked, are not the solution to our 3B problem. Pablo might not be able to turn it around, even a little. Dave Cameron makes a very strong case against Pablo being able to turn it around. However, I think that Farrell needs to play him regularly for several weeks to see what he can do. Playing him for one game and then benching him for 2 or 3 does not give him the chance to gain any consistency. If the team is going to keep him on the bench most of the time, they might as well DFA him and call up Devers or recall Marerro, because Pablo is just taking up a roster spot.
  9. Don Orsillo is in the house! We need to take advantage of this team that is playing at less than 100%. Win!!!
  10. Considering everything, the Sox are in very good shape.
  11. I'm sure that's part of it. The more runners you have on base, the more LOBs you're likely to have, and the more outs you're likely to run into. With the Red Sox, it probably has to do with a lot of base runners but few homeruns.
  12. Great minds think alike. I've been saying for 2-3 years now that JBJ is the guy on the team that I root the hardest for. Little things, like showing up for camp early, make it hard not to root for him. Also, when he's up to bat in a big situation, I feel pretty good. I have never had the sense of "Oh great, Jackie's up to bat ".
  13. Bullpens are so unpredictable.
  14. I think that's a good distinction to make. I do not like Pablo's contract, as well as the cost of acquiring some of our other players, but that has no bearing on my support of the player. I would not have signed Pablo or Price at the cost of their contracts, but I was excited to have both of them on the team.
  15. I am partial to home grown players as well, but I become quickly attached to pretty much any player who joins our team. Good point about how the list continually changes, based mostly on performance I think. One day, everyone wants a player DFA'd, the next day, we're voting for him for MVP.
  16. Moon's at the game mojo!!!
  17. Houston has lost 7 of their last 10.
  18. Our pen has been really, really good lately.
  19. Absolutely. Pom did a great job against a high powered offense.
  20. As I posted in another thread, the Yankees and Astros are right behind us in outs made on basepaths. But the Yankees and Astros are also the 2 highest scoring teams in the AL. You live by aggressive base running, but also die by aggressive base running.
  21. LOL This really cracked me up.
  22. I always appreciate your thoughts on our prospects Hugh. I know that you follow them very closely, so I value what you have to say about them. Thanks for the good posts.
  23. Pablo has stunk, on both sides of the ball. That said, it would still be in the team's best interest if Pablo can play even 'adequately'. They have to give him a long enough look with consistent playing time.
