  1. For me, it's not the issue of trading prospects. Part of the reason for building a farm is to use the pieces to fill in holes. I have no problem with that. The issue for me is twofold. 1. Trading prospects and not getting an adequate return. In other words, overpaying. 2. Trading prospects in an extreme fashion. In other words, depleting the farm, a farm that Dombrowski did not build, I might add.
  2. I agree that the trade for Pomeranz made sense. I didn't like giving up Espinoza for him, but I felt like the trade was necessary. I am still unsettled about Dombrowski not backing out of the deal when he found out about Pomeranz' injury. That leads me to wonder if maybe the Sox knew something about Espinoza's medicals that wasn't quite right. At any rate, I like what I'm seeing from Pom lately.
  3. One of the reasons that I'm not a fan of the Save stat. I remember Papelbon being charged with a blown save in a similar situation in the postseason.
  4. Once again, DRA. It's a relatively new stat so it hasn't caugtht on yet (and may never catch on), but it takes all of that into account. Its creators know that giving up a run on a bases loaded GIDP is not the same as giving up a run on a 2 out, man on 1B double.
  5. I am not a fan of either the Hold or the Save stat.
  6. I read that ERod has something physically wrong with his knee that makes him prone to retweaking it. Unfortunately, I fear that Erod will be on and off the DL throughout his career. I hope that I am wrong. I'm hopeful that Price will get better with more starts. Porcello might benefit from a DL stint to work on whatever he needs to correct. The problem is, we don't have anyone to start in his place while ERod is out.
  7. Prior to that game, Barnes had come into a game in the 8th inning 22 times. The team was 22-0 in those games. The formula is successful.
  8. I agree that there is a 'script'. I think much of that has to do with relievers liking having a set role. Also, much of it has to do with managing for the season and burning out any of the arms. I strongly agree with the idea that a closer should be used in earlier innings if the game calls for it. Wednesday's game was a perfect example. The true save situation occurred in the 8th inning. I have no problem with Barnes starting that inning. But once he walked the first 2 batters, and especially with the 4, 5, and 6 hitters coming up, it's time to bring Kimbrel in. Let Kimbrel get the 3 outs, then worry about the 9th inning when you get there. If Kimbrel can't go a 2nd inning, then bring in somebody else. There is no sense in keeping Kimbrel on the bench for a save situation that may never come.
  9. Maddon is one of the trifecta of self-important micro managers. I do not support him.
  10. This is a good point. It's never good to lose, but there are usually positives that you can take from the losses.
  11. Me taking that wager would be the kiss of death for my Red Sox.
  12. Not only did he lose the no no, he lost the game too. Talk about a tough break.
  13. Sox management has shown with Beni and Moncada that they are not afraid to promote someone that they feel is ready. If they are not willing to call Devers up when we could really use an upgrade at 3B, then they must not feel he is ready. Maybe it's his defense. Maybe it's just his maturity level.
  14. If I'm not mistaken, Farrell said it had to do with his age. I would rather call him up than to overpay in a trade for a moderate upgrade.
  15. Slasher, you have been on top of your game with the Panda posts. I can understand being frustrated with his play, even though it's hard to play well when you play so sparingly, but I don't get the vitriol that is spewed towards him.
  16. All things considered, I can't complain either.
  17. I do really like what Marrero brings defensively. He really helped stabilize our infield defense when they were really scuffling. It's too bad his offense isn't a little stronger.
  18. Yes you did. I think it's pretty clear that management is ready to cut ties with him as soon as they have a viable replacement.
  19. I didn't say anyone criticized the move. The point still remains that often times the right move ends in a not so good result.
  20. LOL We are all so much smarter with the benefit of hindsight. Yes, every manager would have sent Sale back out there because it was the right decision to make, yet the result was not good, which was my point.
  21. I can't really blame Farrell for the use of the pen. There is not much he can do if the relievers don't execute.
  22. If I'm not mistaken, that is the first game that we've lost when we've been tied or ahead going into the 8th inning. So, I can't get too upset with the pen. That said, I hate when the relievers come in and hand out free passes like that. That was a tough loss to take. All in all, not a bad road trip in which we made up a lot of ground on the Yankees.
  23. I'm wondering if Farrell is an idiot for allowing Sale to come back out for the 9th inning, and allowing him to give up a lead off walk followed by a home run. Or perhaps it was okay to bring Sale back out for the 9th, but it was idiotic to leave him in the game after giving up the lead off walk? Was Sale clearly gassed? My point is, sometimes the right decision is made even when the results are not so good.
  24. I did not like the signing either, but that's beside the point. As I just posted in another thread, I'm at the point where I'm done also, but not because I'm fed up with Pablo, and not because I don't think Pablo deserved to get regular playing time, but because I'm sick of how the team is handling the Pablo situation. The bogus DL stint is the last straw. Just DFA the guy, and let him move on.
  25. Farrell reiterated last night that Devers was not going to be rushed up. He also stated that the next stop for Devers would be AAA. If the team is being true to their word, then it sounds like a trade will be coming.
