  1. You are probably right about the anti pitcher bias. I hear so much talk about how Judge is clearly the MVP favorite since Trout's been injured, and I've heard almost nothing about Sale as an MVP candidate. Another consideration would be if one team makes the playoffs and the other doesn't. Right or wrong, voters will take that into account.
  2. I think that is too simplistic an opinion that you are putting onto others. I think most of us want the Sox to make moves to improve, but the question is, at what cost? Am I willing to sacrifice Devers for a marginal upgrade at 3B? No, I'd rather stand pat if that's the case.
  3. I can't argue with that. With a +162 run differential, the Astros are clearly the AL favorites at this time. But as I always say, once you get to the playoffs, it becomes largely a crapshoot.
  4. My question is, why are you looking for Yankee mojo in a Red Sox forum? You want Yankee mojo, go to a Yankee forum. I'm sure you'll find whatever you're looking for there. And of course we're the good guys. We're America's team. Go Red Sox!!!
  5. IMO, he has not had the opportunity to develop 'properly'. One year (when Vazquez got injured), his development was disrupted out of necessity. Last year, I think the FO acted rashly in both replacing him with Vaz and moving him to left field. I have no problem moving him to LF if the long term plan was to move him off of catching, but if the long term plan was for him to be a catcher, then moving him to left field made little sense. I have always liked Swihart. I hope he can recover.
  6. Nice post. There is definitely good reason to be optimistic about our rotation. ERod seems to be healthy and is set to return during the Yankees series. Let's just hope he can stay healthy. If Carson Smith can get healthy and Dombrowski can acquire one strong pen arm, then we have reason to be optimistic about our already good pen as well. Ready to start this second half!
  7. It's possible, which is why it's not wise to make rash decisions.
  8. At the very least, it keeps him away from the Yankees.
  9. Unfortunately, I think his injury last year really set his development back. I would not give up on him yet.
  10. The decision was more or less made when they placed Pablo on the DL for an ear infection.
  11. I am confident that Dombrowski is devoting a lot of thought to the 3B situation. I am not confident that he will act wisely. Despite what he says, I can't see the the Sox going over the luxury tax limit this year. After being so conscientious of not going over it in the offseason, it would seem kind of silly to go over it in July. However, I don't think Dombrowski would have any qualms about trading more prospects, including Devers or Groome, if he thinks he can get a player that will put us over the top.
  12. All good points. The Sox were not going to match Texas' 6 year contract, taking Beltre into his mid to late 30s, and rightly so. Another big reason they let Beltre go was for the draft picks. Theo was all about the draft picks when letting free agents walk. And who did the Sox draft with those comp picks? Jackie Bradley Jr. and Blake Swihart, so it's not all bad.
  13. I agree completely about there being no urgency in trading for a 3B. I think Shaw is playing over his head right now, but that trade looks worse and worse every day. That said, I was fully on board with the trade when it happened. As far as Lin is concerned, his BABIP is .448. He will return to earth as well. In the meantime, however, he and Marrero are doing an acceptable job at 3B.
  14. Actually, I would fire Maddon. He clearly lost all of his managerial skills from last season.
  15. I am surprised at how poorly the Cubs are playing this year. It's an enigma. Lester did not even make it out of the first inning the other day.
  16. They are to a certain extent, but some crews are much worse than others. Some crews are pretty good. It should tell you how bad some of the crews are when I'm thankful that the game is on ESPN or FOX so that I don't have to listen to the away feed. One nice thing about the Trop is that we know we won't have a rain delay.
  17. The two out thing matters because a runner is a lot less likely to score if he gets on base with 2 outs then when he gets on base with 0 outs or 1 out. If there are already 2 outs in the inning, the run expectancy is much lower. The one spot probably does come up to bat the most with 0 men on, but he also probably comes up the most with 0 outs. If he can get on with 0 outs, there's a far better chance of him scoring.
  18. Sorry, but my disagreeing with you and/or my posting stats that go against your opinion is not being disrespectful. If you interpret it that way, that's on you, not me. I am allowed to voice my opinions and post stats to back them up, which is all I'm doing, regardless of how much others disagree with it. I may voice my opinions strongly, but I am doing so respectfully. There is no disrespect in my posts, only conviction. OTOH, there really is only one intent behind mockery, and it's rather clear what that intent is. As I've told you many times before, but you choose to conveniently ignore because it serves your purpose, is that I'm not all about the stats. When you guys can debate and discuss baseball with me on an adult level, bring it on. But I have no use or time for these 3rd grade antics and won't comment or respond to them again.
  19. I am pretty sure it's all positions. I'll look for the quote.
  20. Yes, I think he's talking about radio announcers. The tv announcers are the worst.
  21. Very much agree. Buck Martinez has an annoying voice, IMO, but the Jays announcers are tolerable.
  22. My Extra Innings tv package almost always gives me the home feed. I could watch mlb.tv on my computer, but I'm usually doing other things on the computer while the the game is on.
  23. Somebody mentioned Beltre. He has .9 WAR in just 32 games. His cost may be too high, but he's someone I'd look into. Texas is likely going nowhere, and he's a free agent after this year.
  24. I have nothing against Holt, and IMO, his value to our team as a super utility guy goes beyond his numbers. If he can produce for us like he did pre-injury, I'd be happy to have him back.
