  1. It is the philosophy of many teams to draft the best players/athletes, regardless of position or need. That tends to give you the most value. I don't know if that's what the Sox are doing, but the philosophy makes sense.
  2. On a different note, Hanley may be getting his act together. He's been going more up the middle rather than trying to pull everything. Hopefully, that bodes well for our offense going forward.
  3. The actual numbers say that your best hitters should be batting 1st or 4th, and that your 5th best hitter should be batting 3rd.
  4. Cliff dwellers unite! I tell you what, let's win a World Series or 2 in the next three years and the cliff becomes a moot point.
  5. I am 100% certain that Dombrowski is not going to stand pat. That's not how he operates. He will make a move, whether it be a trade or a Devers call up. He just doesn't have to rush to make that move because the team is still winning despite our hole.
  6. I keep saying that improving our offense starts with the guys that we already have doing what they're capable of doing. If they can do that, then we can possibly hide a weak bat in the #9 hole for a little while. But I agree, Marrero is not the answer long term.
  7. I'm with you Bell.
  8. Despite the sarcasm, this is a very true statement.
  9. Lost in this discussion is the fact that your #1 hitter will get more at bats. While moving him to 4th might be advantageous in one regard, there is a countering disadvantage to moving him down the line up.
  10. The problem with this thought, while valid, is that managers are too traditional in their thinking. Putting your best hitter in the 3rd slot does not maximize the line up. Your best hitters should hit 1st, 4th, and 2nd, with the higher OBP higher in the order and the higher slugging in the 4th spot. Mookie batting 4th would be a good move. Mookie batting 3rd would not be.
  11. Outstanding series, both from a pitching and an offensive standpoint. Great way to start the road trip going into the break. Let's keep it going in Texas!
  12. I think and have always thought that the Sox are the most talented team in the division, and IMO, they remain the division favorites. That said, I have never thought, and still don't think, that they will run away in the second half. I'd love to see that, but I don't think it will happen. Baseball is a funny game. Anything can and does happen. I think the Jays chances are slipping away after being swept, but I would not count out the other teams.
  13. My preference would be batting Mookie 4th. That said, having Mookie in the lead off spot is better than having him in the 3rd spot.
  14. On a bright note, Pablo and Peralta both homered last night!
  15. At the exact half way point, the Sox are 2 games better than they were at this point last year. Not bad for a team that has dealt with a lot of struggles and hasn't really fired on all cylinders yet. Our offense might be coming together, though I've thought that a couple of times before and it didn't happen. But our pitching staff owns the best ERA in the AL.
  16. That was a fun game.
  17. For me, it's not an issue of 'fake news'. I know to take all of the rumors with a grain of salt. It just drives me crazy.
  18. LOL Everyone wants to bat Betts third. I don't get it.
  19. Yup, that is probably the case. I read this morning that the argument wasn't over something Eck said about Price, but rather over something that Eck said about another player.
  20. A chance for the sweep today! Let's do this!
  21. No, what I'm suggesting is that if Devers comes up and fails, then other GMs know that our need to trade for a 3B has become more urgent. I am against trading any more of our top prospects, especially for a rental. If I'm Dombrowski, I'm looking for a reasonable deal for a quality 3B. If one does not exist, then I'm calling up Devers.
  22. I have no doubt that, eventually, Dombrowski will upgrade at 3B.
  23. No, we should not become complacent, and I don't think Dombrowski will be. OTOH, I think your post emphasizes the point that we must be patient. The team cannot make a 'panic' move every time a player or the team goes into a little slide. Ebb and flow is a reality of pretty much every player and every team throughout the long season. Patience.
  24. Run differential, in all of its simplicity, is actually a pretty good indicator of how good a team has been, and it doesn't matter really matter if a good bit of that run differential comes in a handful of games where a team scored 10+ runs. The closer the score of the game, the more the outcome is due to luck or randomness. A team's record in one run games will tell you very little. A team's record in blowout games (5+ runs) will give you a better indication of how good a team is, or at least how well they've been playing. It pains me to say that the Yankees should have a better record than us, but it doesn't pain me the least bit that they don't.
  25. We do like to 'tinker' with the line up, despite the fact that the tinkering makes very little difference.
