  1. They might go with a lesser reliever than Robertson if the cost for Robertson is too high. I'm not really a fan of getting Frazier, but again, it all depends on the cost. I would rather go with the status quo than overpay for a marginal upgrade.
  2. Saying that it costs us nothing is not really a true statement. FWIW, I largely agree with you from the standpoint of giving up prospects and money for a rental player, but that all depends on the cost. There are some advantages to making a trade, even if it's only a marginal upgrade. One is getting a player with some veteran experience on an already young team. Two is adding some insurance/depth. Dombrowski is going to give due diligence to the trade market. Devers will be called up if the FO believes that he is our best option.
  3. I don't know what the exact figures are, but my understanding is that we have about $6 mil to spare and acquiring Frazier and Robertson would cost us about $8 mil. I read yesterday that getting both would put us over. I may very well be misinformed.
  4. With a name like Rico Petrocelli, how can you not be cool? Not having lived through it like some of you did, I really enjoyed the documentary. It gave me goose bumps. I wish I could have experienced that season.
  5. No kidding. Did they not realize there was a game going on? Do they not realize there was a second team playing in that game?
  6. Porcello has not been the pitcher that he was last season, which I don't think anyone thought he would be, but he has really gotten short changed by our offense.
  7. Our pitching was excellent in that series, especially considering how potent the Yankees line up is. Price deserves a big tip of the cap. That was a true ace performance when one was 'desperately' needed. He was a stopper after 2 frustrating losses and he spared the bullpen. His reaction to Jackie's catch was 'price'less. That win really helped take the sour taste out of my mouth.
  8. Yes, it was rather nauseating how they went on and on about him.
  9. No, he was likely never going to live up to the contract, but he should have been decent in his first 2-3 years of the contract. He has always been 'big-boned' and has managed to play pretty well until he came Boston.
  10. Robertson would put us over the luxury tax limit. This might be doable if the White Sox are willing to eat some of his remaining salary.
  11. Fair enough. It all depends on what he costs, of course.
  12. This team can hit pop ups with the best of them. DFA the whole pathetic lot of them. Except for Beni. He has the cool hair.
  13. Erod is pitching on Monday.
  14. It now sounds like Fister will not be starting and it will either be Johnson or Velazquez.
  15. That's not what is being suggested. Our hitters often take the first pitch regardless of what the pitch is - that is their approach. I think being patient and working the count is a very good approach overall, but I also think there are times when the batter should be looking for a fastball in the middle of the plate on the first pitch and be ready to swing.
  16. No, they weren't. Pablo took the benching and the injury to heart, and he worked hard to atone for not being in better condition that year. It's not like he didn't care or didn't try.
  17. I read earlier (I don't recall who wrote it) that Fister might still be a candidate for Tuesday's start.
  18. Thank you.
  19. Except when the people who are actually working with Pablo state otherwise. At any rate, the guy is gone. As you said, there is no need for the continued vitriol.
  20. I can say with almost 100% certainty that sabermetric baseball ops people are not going to be swayed by post season heroics, that they are fully aware of any trends in performance, and that they are aware of the caveats that go along with an overweight player. All that said, I understood the rationale behind signing him. He should not have been that bad in his first 3 years of the contract.
  21. Even though our ability to score runs has been frustratingly inconsistent and our pen has been pretty good, I think a late inning reliever is a bigger need than a small upgrade at 3B. Kelly's injury sounds like it may be long term. Adding someone like Frazier (or even Beltre, for that matter) isn't going to solve our offensive problems. The guys that we have still need to perform like they are capable of performing.
  22. It all depends on the cost, but I completely agree about Frazier. Unlike others, I am not necessarily in love with the long ball.
  23. I don't see anything that Gerardi did that was so spectacular last night over what Farrell did. When a game goes 16 innings, it really puts a strain on the BP, no matter how good the pen or the managing decisions are. As far as Gerardi still having his horses for today, do you mean Betances and Chapman? I have no idea if either are available today, but both pitched in back to back games, and if I'm not mistaken, Chapman threw quite a few pitches on Friday. I really don't think Gerardi was planning on using him at all last night.
  24. Good analysis Oldtimer. Not being a batting coach, I can't really comment on the specifics like you have. I just have my opinions of when someone looks bad at the plate, and right now, Mookie looks bad. I do agree that our batters have a tendency to take good pitches right down the middle of the plate too often. But then, many of them are very good 2 strike hitters and that has long been their approach.
  25. I don't think they will trade him. It sounds more and more like a trade for Frazier is going to happen.
