  1. Fister needs to keep us in the game. Our offense has obviously not been great, but Liriano should be hittable. He also has not been commanding his fastball well at all. Once again, the Jays are going down!
  2. Yes he has been. Good point.
  3. We run into a lot of outs with the aggressive base running, but we also score runs with it. We are an overall +3.7 in UBR, +1.5 in BsR, and +.9 in wSB. There are certainly times when our players have to be a little smarter on the basepaths, but our overall base running has been a net positive. What is killing us is the double plays. We are -3.1 in wGDP.
  4. Absolutely. Anything less than a championship would be disappointing in the end.
  5. Yup. It would still be nice to add a late inning arm, but I don't think it's worth a large overpay.
  6. I hope he does too. And unless he's playing against the Sox, I hope he does well. Bochy had nothing but good things to say about him.
  7. It's too soon to tell, but Workman may just be the piece that keeps Dombrowski from feeling the need to overpay for a reliever.
  8. Fister 0-3/ 6.75 Will try and recover after his last tough start against the Rangers where he gave up five runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings. Reported to be headed to the bullpen after this start. Liriano 5-5/ 6.04 Liriano is scheduled to make this start after being pulled from his last start with a stiff neck. Was evaulated, and cleared to pitch after his bullpen session on Tuesday. It's time to get Fister his first win with the Red Sox. Let's end this home stand with a bang and start the left coast road trip off on a good note. Get it done boys!!! Beat the Jays!!!
  9. Pom started off rough, but since his dugout 'spat' with Farrell, he has really stepped it up.
  10. The nice thing is, our starting pitching has been really, really good. Great job by Pom last night.
  11. I like Pedroia's comment earlier in the year when they put him in the 6 hole, something to the effect of, 'it doesn't matter, I'll mash there too'.
  12. It was a fair deal for both sides, IMO. I wasn't that high on getting Frazier, but I would have liked getting the 2 relievers that they got. That said, Dombrowski should not have tried to match or beat the Yankees offer, and I'm very glad he didn't.
  13. If the FO truly thought he was ready, he might be up now. I think they feel that he is very close, but could still benefit from some more time in AAA. Since we are not 2 games out of the playoffs, I think the FO has the luxury of waiting.
  14. We could have the best pitching and the best hitting in baseball, and still get eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. The first goal is to get there, and then it becomes a whole different ball game.
  15. Moon and I are pollyannas, except for when it comes to the cliff, in which case we are pessimists. It's been frustrating. Very frustrating. But despite all the frustration, the injuries, and the underperformances, we are in first place by 2 games. Sure, we could use another bat. But it's not worth acting rashly to get one. I think the package that the Yankees gave up for Frazier plus the 2 relievers was fair. I don't think the Sox should have tried to outbid the Yankees.
  16. He will be called up when the time is right.
  17. In short, the more at bats your best hitter gets, the better. I think some are putting too much emphasis on RBIs rather than on runs created or runs generated. Even though a lead off hitter might not have as many RBI opportunities, hits/walks by the lead off and #2 guys generate more runs than they do in other positions.
  18. I agree that it should have nothing to do with his age. I can't speak to what his maturity level is, but apparently the FO does not think he's ready.
  19. Have fun at the game! The Jays don't stand a chance!
  20. It's ironic that going into the season, your bullpen was supposed to be your strength. The Yankees did get better, but as you said, they haven't addressed their biggest need. I don't think Cashman is finished yet.
  21. I really hope that Dombrowski doesn't feel the need to make a move just for the sake of countering or one upping the Yankees. One of the headlines I read this morning was "Your Move Dombrowski", or something to that effect. Though I'm not a fan of his 'aggressiveness', Dombrowski is no dummy. He has not stopped looking for a 3B upgrade just because Frazier is no longer available. I am pretty sure that he will make some kind of trade before the deadline.
  22. In hindsight, of course not. And probably not many would do it for a two month rental, but that depends on the rental. But before Betts joined the big league club, I'm sure there are those who were more than willing to trade him for some starting pitching. There are many on here who are of the opinion that if you can get a proven big league player for a prospect who may or may not pan out, you do it. To heck with impending cliffs.
  23. I agree. Young is not a problem. Keeping or getting rid of him will not be a game changer.
  24. I would have liked to have Robertson/Kahnle more so than Frazier, but I'm glad that Dombrowski did not try to outbid the Yankees for that package.
