  1. Should be a good pitching matchup. Sox for the win!!!
  2. I think it's awesome too. Nice job Cubbies.
  3. Because resetting the luxury tax has huge implications for the next two years, which is also part of our 'win now' mode window.
  4. I agree it's not the reason they are failing, which is all I've been saying. That does not the opinion of many, however.
  5. I don't know how much blame goes to Chili, but I have questioned his role in this. The merit in Ortiz helping the line up is that it elongates the line up. He may have also been able to help them from a mentor standpoint. Helping them in terms of offering protection has little merit.
  6. Sounds good to me.
  7. Do you not think they're in 'win now' mode? If they thought the offense would be this bad, they would have signed Encarnacion.
  8. Agree. I don't know about the surprise up his sleeve, but he is not going to pass up a trade for a true impact player unless it's a gross overpay.
  9. IMO, they should have kept both Theo and Tito. The team would have likely made the playoffs in 2012. Henry panicked, as he tends to do.
  10. As Theo's right hand man, Ben was also a huge part of acquiring the farm system left to him under Theo's watch.
  11. Ben was not afraid to deal his prospects. The time was not right to deal them until 2016 - 5 year plan. If Ben were still GM in 2016, he would have dealt some of them. We would also still have a strong farm because Ben would not have been as aggressive as Dave. He would have used more of a balance between short and long terms.
  12. IMO, all a GM can do is assemble a team that looks good on paper, and that includes, non-stat views as well. In both 2014 and 2015, pretty much all the analysts and computer projections had us contending and/or winning the division. I don't think a GM can be blamed for the team not playing to expectations. It's very similar to this year. If the team fails to make the postseason, it will not be Dombrowski's fault. He did his job in assembling this year's team.
  13. Of course it does. It counts for almost everything.
  14. It remains to be seen what happens with this team this year and the next two years, but we should still be in great shape during our window. Nobody should be ruling the Sox out for this year.
  15. I'm not sure that I'm as high on Hosmer as you are (depends on the cost), but I would absolutely stay away from that Votto contract, and I'm a big Votto fan. That story would likely not end well at all.
  16. Hanley saw 55.2% fastballs last year versus 54.9% this year. Pedroia saw 58.7% fastballs last year versus 59.9% this year.
  17. I can live with your last statement better than I can accept that they need him in the lineup. But that goes more along the lines of leadership or coaching, not with replacing the bat in the lineup.
  18. According to Fangraphs, the Sox saw 54.9% fastballs last year. This year they have seen 55.4% fastballs. So in short, no. But this is really too simplistic to judge by looking at the team as a whole.
  19. Sorry, but line up protection is largely a myth. While it's true that pitchers will pitch differently to batters based on who is 'protecting' them, it unfortunately makes no difference in the batters overall performance. Saying that Ortiz' behometh season led to Pedey and Hanley having resurgent seasons is cah-cah.
  20. Think positively oldtimer. Cleveland looks tough, but if the Pale Sox can beat them, then we can beat them. I'm not thrilled about Fister, but anything can happen in a baseball game.
  21. Farrell has said that he encourages the players to be aggressive. In Bogaerts case, it was a struggling player trying too hard to make something happen. Our overall baserunning runs right now stands at -0.6, but that is due to the large number of GIDPs that we get. We are in the positive zone for 'taking the extra base' at +1.6 and for stolen bases at +0.6. Yes, we run into more outs than any other team, but that is because we take more chances. Overall, the aggressiveness is helping the team, not hurting it.
  22. Having an Ortiz type hitter would definitely elongate the line up. It does not, however, make the other hitters perform better.
  23. It's not hideous right now, but history has taught us over and over and over again that these types of contracts are not a good idea. Price was also the type of pitcher who should have 'aged well', and right now, that's not looking like the case.
  24. If I'm not mistaken, Votto is pretty intent on staying in Cincinatti.
  25. Personally, I think 2014 was more of a fluke than 2013.
