  1. Yeah, pretty much. Relievers can come in for one out and get a Win. Kimbrel got the Win last night due to no part of his performance other than the ability to not get pulled out of the game that inning.
  2. Valid point Illinois.
  3. I agree. I don't watch the other teams enough to know how often they do it, but I don't think this is just a Red Sox coaching problem. I have seen plenty of players from other teams slide into 1B also.
  4. We have scored more runs in 2 days of August than we scored the entire month of July. LOL Hyperbole of course, but it sure feels like it.
  5. Wins are a rather stupid stat to begin with, but I always thought awarding a win to a closer who just blew the save was doubly stupid.
  6. LOL In his words, best strike out of his career. Hopefully, Moreland is finding his stroke again.
  7. That game was such an emotional roller coaster. I'd hate to be on the Guardians' side of that. I didn't think they would be able to come back to win that game against the Guardians pitching staff after going down 5-0, much less come back 3 times. As they say, that's why you play the games.
  8. I guess Sale was due for a game like that. How ironic that all of those usually solid pitchers, on both teams, got hit hard. It was nice to see our offense pick up our pitching for a change. I loved Kimbrel's excitement when Vaz hit the game winning home run.
  9. I have a hard time believing that he didn't even inquire. His top priorities were a 3B and a RP, so it seems to follow that most of his time was spent inquiring about those pieces. But I would bet that he also inquired on starters, including Gray, but never got into serious talks about starters because he deemed the price too high for a piece that he did not consider a priority.
  10. I liked Middlebrooks, but two things that were concerning regarding him. One was his K/W ratio. The other is when he stated, as a rookie playing on a team in a pennant race, that he 'lost the fire'. That comment has always bothered me.
  11. Thank you.
  12. Not true, because I didn't necessarily disagree with it. I never said it was the wrong move.
  13. I agree. I just don't think that at the time the move was made that it was 'necessary'.
  14. Amen. And Dustin Pedroia's.
  15. I agree with that completely.
  16. I liked this trade more as a depth move than as any significant upgrade to our offense, but so far, Nunez has really impressed. I know he's going to cool off, I just hope he doesn't go into sleep mode that some of our hitters seem to be in.
  17. We just don't have the pieces to compete with the Yankees in a trade. I would not want to get in a prospect bidding war with them.
  18. They supposedly made a tweak in his delivery. Maybe he can come close to repeating it. Fingers crossed.
  19. Fister came up huge when we really needed a win. I didn't have a whole lot of confidence in either him or our offense, but I'm happy to say that they both proved me wrong. The news on Price this evening is optimistic.
  20. Height certainly helps. All other things being equal, I'd take the taller player for that position.
  21. I like Votto, but I would stay away from that contract. It's likely in a couple of years that we would be saying the same things about Votto that some people are not saying about Hanley.
  22. Dombrowski has a plan, it just does not include the long term.
  23. Having a move work out does not mean that it was not a panic move. You take a chance and hope that it works out. If it does, you look like a genius. If it doesn't, then not so much. Dombrowski himself said that he would prefer Devers had more time in AAA but called him up anyway. That is certainly not a move that was made according to plan.
  24. Abad has always been a very good LOOGY. His problems tend to come when he has to face righties.
