  1. I am partial to Rudolph.
  2. At the time of the moves, they were unnecessary. IMO, we could have gotten a closer that would provide pretty much the same production without giving up the prospects. I agree, it turned out that we needed Sale because of Price's injury, but that wasn't my point.
  3. No, you give me a freaking break with your 'all success is attributable to Dombrowski'. He didn't do anything but step into a great situation and reap the benefits that others worked so hard to build. I am pleased to know that not only do I have a gang, but I have elk as well. I rock.
  4. I can pretty much guarantee you that Ben did not sign Pablo. That signing goes so much against his MO that it isn't even funny. I can see Ben being responsible for Hanley. If Ben had been allowed to follow his plan through, he would have dealt some of his prospects. He hadn't dealt them previously because it wasn't time to do so in the 5 year plan.
  5. I was concerned the minute Dombrowski was hired. I did not like the apparent change in organizational philosophy. Your second paragraph is hogwash.
  6. Ben is drawing a lot of interest for the Braves GM position. Cashman tried to hire Ben right after he left the Sox because the Yankees were going into rebuild. It seems to me that other organizations think very highly of Ben's 5 year plan. The thing about a 5 year plan is that it usually takes 5 years. Go figure. But in the midst of all that, Ben was able to bring us a World Championship. Not too shabby.
  7. Dombrowski did not bring the Red Sox back to back division titles. Ben and Theo did. Even the players that Dombrowski brought in were only made possible by the great work of his predecessors.
  8. He was not rebuilding our pitching staff from virtually nothing. He had already signed Price. Porcello and ERod were already on the staff. He should not have traded away all of those prospects for Kimbrel. Those prospects could have been put to better use, and that trade started the snowball, IMO. I was actually okay with the trade for Pomeranz. At the time that it happened, he did not need to trade for Sale. Acquiring Sale was overkill.
  9. I don't agree with everything you wrote in this post, but I really, really like it overall.
  10. Bingo. The small sample size is troublesome enough. The fact that that small sample is spread out over several seasons makes if even worse.
  11. And there was recent talk about how Kershaw finally figured out how not to choke, and how his previous playoff experience and maturity helped him learn to handle the pressure better. Then, he comes out the next game and 'chokes' again. Why is that? Some people can indeed handle the pressure better than others. Those who cannot handle the pressure do not survive in the big leagues for very long. The ability to raise one's game to an other worldly level in a clutch situation does not exist.
  12. This is what happens when dudes keep diggin' the long ball so much. But yeah, if the balls are indeed juiced, which it seems they are, it kind of taints the whole thing. We've gone from juiced players to juiced balls.
  13. That was an epic game. Pitcher's duel, not so much, but epic game nonetheless. Neither team has any quit in them. I will actually feel bad for whichever team loses. If I were a fan of either team, I don't think I would survive the emotional roller coaster. LOL
  14. I would have started by trading for Kimbrel.
  15. No, I'm proposing that you get a group of stat geeks together to do the voting.
  16. The Sox will not be seller next July. Guaranteed.
  17. Beckett has a lifetime pass as far as I'm concerned.
  18. There are obviously times when it will be necessary to sign a free agent to a deal longer than 3 years. The point is that building a good franchise starts with a strong farm, and those long term Stanton deals should be avoided.
  19. This is my understanding as well. There has been no indication of an attitude problem. Price, OTOH, .....
  20. If I recall correctly, Hanley volunteered to go to left field so that he could come to Boston. To knowledge, he has done everything the team has asked him to do.
  21. I did not have a problem with the Hanley signing either, nor did I have a problem at the time with making him our left fielder. I also am in no hurry to trade him away. Stanton's contract, OTOH, I have a problem with.
  22. I would do that deal in a heartbeat.
  23. It has been a great series so far. I'm looking forward to an epic pitching matchup tonight. I am still slightly favoring the Astros, but at this point, I really don't care who wins.
  24. Henry definitely panicked in hiring Dombrowski. That said, I have an issue with Dombrowski as well. He could have accomplished the task without depleting the farm.
