  1. Baseball is a beautiful thing.
  2. LOL I know it stings right now, but Yankees fans should be happy with what your team accomplished this season and with the way the future of your team looks. Congrats to the Yankees fans. Dombrowski could learn a thing or two from Cashman, who followed Ben's and Theo's blueprints.
  3. I am pulling for the Astros, but I would not mind at all if the Dodgers win it all. If the Sox can't win it all, I like to see a World Series with 2 good teams that haven't won it in a while. I'm just glad the Yankees are out.
  4. There is a lot of merit to the idea of giving a starter some extra rest during the season, as there is merit to not burning out your bullpen in June. We all know that a manager must manage the marathon of a long season differently than he manages in September or in the post season. I have no problem with throwing in a spot starter now and then to give a guy like Sale some extra rest if it will keep him stronger and better in October. That said, I was very much against skipping Sale's start at the end of the season when we had not yet clinched the division. Marathon vs sprint.
  5. I am with Moon on this one. I don't care about a catcher's offense. I want the best defensive catcher possible behind the plate and let the rest of the line up take care of the offense. I would leave our catching tandem alone.
  6. That's the thing. There really wasn't a good time to trade Swihart until it was 'too late'. Is it possible that he could play well enough to be a utility player for us? If given the reps, he could play 1B, 3B, LF, and be a valuable 3rd catcher option. My understanding is that he is playing behind the plate in the Dominican league.
  7. That might be true, but then the team takes a big hit defensively in right field, which in Fenway, is no small matter.
  8. I think they should add a bat too. I just don't think they need to go crazy adding that bat, ie Stanton. That said, I would be okay if the Sox went with the same position players next year. As far as the pitching goes, Price is the big question mark. If he is indeed healthy and can give us close to 30 starts, then I agree that he is the upgrade. The uncertainty with him is my main reason why I think pitching needs to be addressed.
  9. Dudes dig the long ball!
  10. I understand why people are looking for ways to upgrade our offense, but I really prefer not to do that at the expense of our defense. Ozuna is not a good defensive center fielder. I would just as soon stay with JBJ.
  11. I have always like Varitek as a managerial candidate, when/if he was ready to jump into that role. That said, I think it would be a good idea to have a bench coach who has more experience in a coaching or managerial role to complement Cora.
  12. I don't disagree with what you are saying. You are probably right that Ortiz would not want to take on such a job because of the reasons you mentioned. I still like the idea though.
  13. I agree that Cora should be able to pick his coaching staff, or at least have a very strong say in who gets picked. I have no problem with Butterfield staying on. I think Chili will be replaced, in large part because he seems to be drawing a lot of interest elsewhere.
  14. I don't think Butterfield was a bad 3rd base coach. He was simply following the aggressive base running philosophy.
  15. I like the idea of Ortiz as a hitting coach, as others have mentioned. I agree with sk that the bench coach should probably be someone with more experience in coaching/managing.
  16. Verlander has been awesome since being traded to the Astros.
  17. Play of the game last night was Springer's catch near the CF wall. He doesn't catch that and it might have been a completely different ball game.
  18. Theo just recently said that he is likely going to have to trade players this offseason. What that actually means is anybody's guess, but it sounds like he's looking at trading more than he is at signing free agents.
  19. Theo doesn't do cliffs. But even if he did, which he doesn't, the Cubbies have already won the World Series. That makes Theo's whole non-existent cliff philosophy worth it. If we win a World Series in the next 2 years, then Dombrowski's cliff building will have been worth it.
  20. I'm not in any rush to trade any of our young guys. I'd rather keep our young core with their cost controlled salaries than take on Stanton's 10 years. I really expect that our offense will be better next year even if we don't 'upgrade'.
  21. I'm not in any hurry to get rid of Butterfield. He's held in very high regard by baseball people. I think you have a good point about bringing in an older person with experience to be the bench coach.
  22. Smart player and he was mentally always in the game. I like the move. I think he could do a very good job with our young players. I just hope he is up to the challenge of dealing with all the scrutiny and second guessing. At least he understands what it's like to play in Boston.
  23. FTR, Farrell did try to give Sale some extra rest midseason, and he got a LOT of criticism for it.
