  1. !!! Matthew Kory, my man!
  2. I just don't see where LaRussa adds much that we don't already have. I read a couple of good articles by Drelich and Kory about how hiring LaRussa is fine, but how his hiring really doesn't help to move the organization forward. One of them used the analogy of LaRussa being like a 3rd arm. As Drelich so eloquently said, having people with experience is nice, but so too is having people who can challenge the viewpoints formed by experience.
  3. Dombrowski does indeed deserve credit for the Cora hiring. Well done, Dave. Too bad he then turned around and hired La Russa. It's almost like he's trying to cancel out the good in hiring Cora.
  4. LaRussa says he wants to help Cora without 'getting in his way'. That sounds a lot like how Larry 'helped' Ben and Theo.
  5. I actually thought Girardi was a pretty good manager. I don't consider him to be analytical, but as far as managers go, there are a lot worse.
  6. Perhaps, but the fact that the Sox were able to win a World Series while 'rebuilding' is pretty impressive. Go Ben!
  7. There's also a huge difference in a team that was expected to win the division but didn't perform up to expectations and a team that was expected to finish in last.
  8. The signing of veterans to attain 'transient mediocrity' worked out pretty well for the Sox in 2013. Not so much in '14 and '15.
  9. Double !!!
  10. !!!
  11. I know this was discussed in the LaRussa thread, but I really don't get this signing. I guess he is supposed to be the 'checks and balances' for Cora.
  12. I hope some team not named the Red Sox trades for him very quickly so we can stop all of this nonsensical talk.
  13. If Notin says it, it counts!
  14. But is my statement false? I think not!
  15. 2016 - Roughly 50 WAR were earned by players that were already in the organization before Dombrowski stepped foot in it. Roughly 10 WAR were earned by players that Dombrowski brought in. The point is that the division winning team was already largely in place. Dombrowski walked into a very favorable situation. You are fooling yourself if you think Dombrowski worked some kind of special magic to take this team from last to first. They would have done it whether Dombrowski was at the helm or if I was at the helm. Dombrowski gets more credit for 2017, but the team is still largely a Theo/Ben team. Deny it all you want, but the numbers don't lie.
  16. Tony LaRussa!!!
  17. Well technically, Randy Johnson was mentioned in the 4th post.
  18. I am happy for McCann too. I'm happy for the Astros and the city of Houston. They deserved the win. I feel bad for the Dodgers. It was a hard fought series.
  19. I think the point was that when Dombrowski first joined the team, he had a lot of resources available to him between money and prospects which he did not use wisely (in the opinions of some). Yes, Dombrowski was restrained by the salary cap this year, but if I recall correctly, Henry opened his checkbook to Dombrowski that first offseason. Not to mention the wealth of prospects to deal with.
  20. We could always use more pitching. I didn't think it was necessary to go all out to get Sale. We already had our supposed ace. Similarly, I don't think it's necessary to go all out and get another ace this season.
  21. I am talking about a #2/3 type pitcher. Our rotation could be very good as is, but I think there are a lot of question marks beyond Sale.
  22. I was not a fan of having the All Star Game determine home field advantage. I like going with best record. Really couldn't have asked for a better series. Go baseball! People who are not fans do not know what they're missing.
  23. Oh, but I do. I'm the one suggesting Dombrowski focus on pitching this offseason over the big bat. I just think he went overboard and spent too much in prospects. The Kimbrel trade is the one that gets me the most. We got the double whammy (money and prospects) on that one. And I like Kimbrel.
  24. I felt like that might be the case when the Marlins put Stanton on waivers and not a single team put in a claim. I get the sense that the Marlins are more concerned with dumping his salary than anything else.
  25. !!!
