  1. Giving Stanton that contract to begin with was stupid.
  2. The Marlins did handle the whole situation poorly, letting it be known that dumping Stanton's contract was a priority. I don't know whether it was Stanton or the Marlins who leaked all the information about who he would accept a trade to, but that didn't help either.
  3. The Dodgers apparently were very wary of that contract, especially the fact that it's so back loaded. That being the case, they might not have been willing to take on as much money as the Yankees did, which seems to be the top priority for the Marlins.
  4. I wonder if Jeter got in his ear though, and talked the Yankees up to him. Or told him that you either agree to this trade or you'll be stuck here with a stripped down team. It is a little strange that Stanton was so set on going to the west coast but then seemingly agreed to the Yankees out of the blue.
  5. LOL I like this Mike Silva tweet: Two things should come out of Stanton and NYY: collusion investigation on Jeter and proof they feel deep down Judge isn’t sustainable
  6. Ells also has a no trade clause. Will he waive it? My understanding is that he wants to stay in NY and fight for the CF job. Even if he does not get to start, would the chance at another ring keep him there? I would think that would be a strong motivator.
  7. We could trade for Starlin Castro...
  8. What I read is that the one of the prospects the Yankees traded is comparable to our #1 prospect. In other words, we could not have gotten him for 2 single A farm hands.
  9. That depends on whether Price is healthy or not. That is what concerns me.
  10. If our guys are healthy, our pitching staff will be tough to beat. But Price is a big question mark, and so is ERod. That's what concerns me. I'd feel a lot better adding another solid starter. Personally, I think our offense will largely take care of itself.
  11. I read that Guzman (your #7 prospect?) would be akin to our #1 prospect.
  12. LOL He probably will!
  13. That's what I'm talking about.
  14. Agreed. This Yankees signing doesn't bother me nearly as much as when they signed Damon. LOL
  15. De-juice the baseballs and raise the pitcher's mound!
  16. Cheer up vj. It's all good.
  17. I think that Stanton will be a very good player for the Yankees for the 1st half of the contract. I would much rather he went to the Giants, but I am glad that the Sox did not take on that contract.
  18. I am with you on most of this post.
  19. I'm guessing there's a good chance that Stanton opts out, in which case the Yankees don't get the $30 mil from the Marlins and the price in prospects hurts a little more. If Stanton doesn't opt out, then the Yankees are taking on a big risk with that 10 year deal, regardless of the AAV. The Yankees got a good player, but I'm not ready to call it a steal. I think there's a reason why the Dodgers were not that enthused in their pursuit.
  20. I have no doubt that Dombrowski is going to do something big. I just hope he doesn't overreact in an attempt to one up the Yankees. IMO, the Sox are already a very good team without having done anything. The Yankees would have to be considered the favorites now that they have Stanton, but that doesn't mean that the Sox can't beat them with a couple of well thought out moves. I don't like Stanton going to the Yankees, but I'm not about to jump off the ledge. The Sox will be in the hunt.
  21. Stat geeks are awesome, and very good at what they do. A catcher's impact on a pitcher is a very strong point of interest among them, one they have studied intensely, and they are making great strides in this area. After adjusting for pretty much every factor one could think of, including things like blocking pitches and pitch framing, Varitek earned 57.something more runs in that 4 year span for his pitchers than otherwise would have been expected. Believe it or not. What's really good about this data is that it gels very well with the what one expect based on reputation.
  22. I don't think it's Dombrowski's fault that we didn't get Stanton. I really don't think he wanted to come here, which is even more reason not to want him. I just hope that the Sox don't overreact now, trying to counter this move by the Yankees. Stick to the plan, whatever that might be. Don't let the Yankees moves affect your decisions.
  23. Even with the Yankees adding Stanton, I'd prefer to focus on adding a #2/3 starter over trying to add a big bat. I think our offense will be fine. We won't match the Yankees offensively, but I prefer strong pitching, mediocre offense than the other way around.
  24. The Yankees have shown before that they will bail on that plan in a heartbeat.
  25. I did not want Stanton because of his cost, but I certainly didn't want him going to the Yankees either. Don't worry though, Dombrowski has not yet begun to fight. I am interested to see what the full terms of the deal are.
