  1. It's the Rays. They are going all Marlins on us. It's a move to shed payroll, nothing else. I think people are reading too much into it.
  2. It's a salary dump. The Rays apparently can't afford his $5.95 mil salary. Crazy.
  3. It's possible, but I think it would be difficult. As you mentioned, other teams would be in similar roster crunches.
  4. Dombrowski would not comment today on whether Nunez passed or has even taken his physical. Nunez said there's no deal yet. I'm not sure what to make, if anything, on those comments. Reportedly, the deal has a player option for the 2nd year, with a buyout, so it essentially becomes a 2 year deal. No word yet on the dollar amount.
  5. And that is the bottom line.
  6. I do think that Brentz deserves a chance based on what he did last year. I'm not saying that I think he will repeat that at the major league level, just that he has earned the chance in my book. Unfortunately for him, baseball and rosters are a numbers game. I can't see the Sox hanging onto him when he has no options, while DFAing another comparable player who does have options.
  7. You could have written this post without the line I put in bold. In which case, I would have responded to the baseball content of it.
  8. As I've said many times, I think that with the absence of Papi, many of the players tried to do too much. When things didn't go as plan, they would start pressing. They didn't stay within their game. I think most of the players realize that now. I think this is where the comments like 'sometimes it wasn't fun' are coming from. I'm reading today that the players were too focused on day to day stats, which seems to go along with what I'm saying. Perhaps a different manager would have been able to take some of the pressure off of the kids that they seemed to have placed on themselves. I don't think it has anything to do with Cora being closer in age to the players. I am excited about Cora because I think he is a less 'traditional' manager. But as I said, I would have been fine if Farrell had stayed.
  9. Boras isn't getting desperate, but his clients have to be feeling a sense of panic. And I imagine that Boras is having a harder and harder time convincing his clients to remain patient. The players can continue with the "I'm willing to sit out through spring training" crap all they want, but you know it's killing them. Pressure is a better word. Boras is feeling pressure.
  10. I think it's fair to question what is going on with the coaching staff when there are widespread underperformances on the team.
  11. From what I've read from players who have played with Pedroia, he is a leader.
  12. It is insane! I'm all for plate discipline and working the count, but the top of the order can't be taking all those pitches right down the heart of the plate. I know Cora wants them to be more aggressive, which I agree with. I just hope that the aggressiveness does not go to the other extreme.
  13. I think there is some truth to those who have said that Farrell didn't know how to best work with these young guys, how to get them to relax and stay within their game instead of trying to do too much. However, blaming Farrell for the early playoff exits is on a whole different level.
  14. I don't see the need to blame anyone either. Maybe it was time for Farrell to go. I don't know. I was actually indifferent to his firing. I am not torn up that he was fired, but I also would have been fine if he was still with the team. I am excited about Cora though. But, I digress. Blaming Farrell for the early exits in the playoffs is unfair.
  15. I'm not really buying that the team was not ready for the playoffs. It does sound like an indictment on Farrell, which sounds like a cop out or an excuse to me. The team got beat in the playoffs because they were outplayed. Does that really mean that they weren't ready? They were ready in August and September, but not in October?
  16. Yup. It's one thing to take a first pitch. It's another thing to take a first that's middle-middle that often.
  17. In my opinion, he is a leader. Also in my opinion, the 'turmoil' that the press is reporting is being blown out of proportion. Bogaerts never used the term 'dysfunctional' or anything along the lines of 'turmoil', as far as I know. Actually, the 'problems' in the Sox clubhouse sound about the same as what every clubhouse goes through every year, more or less. It seems that because the Red Sox had two early exits from the playoffs, there must be some kind of problem in the clubhouse. Maybe they just got beat by the better team?
  18. Of course. And I am willing to acknowledge that if Gardner were on my team, I would probably love him also.
  19. Red Sox Stats ‏ @redsoxstats 1h1 hour ago Red Sox Stats Retweeted Alex Speier Bogaerts ranked 268th of 272 in swinging at first pitches that were middle-middle. Betts 263rd. Pedroia 251st. JD Martinez 15th.
  20. I have maintained that if the Sox had not collapsed and missed the playoffs, we would know nothing of the chicken and beer incident.
  21. Just don't put your best hitter 3rd. Please.
  22. What's wrong with a leader thinking of and viewing himself as a leader?
  23. You can count on me carrying my optimism through the entire season, unless we are mathematically eliminated. It's a tough job, but somebody has to do it. I need some new pom poms.
  24. If only the manager would do it correctly.
