  1. I'm with you Moon. Mark me down as a Leon fan.
  2. He stabilized our 3B position last season when the team sorely needed it.
  3. Not when that 3rd catcher can play other positions.
  4. I very much agree with your posts on the topic of our 3 catchers.
  5. Based off of spring training? Weren't we just talking about the Jeff Bailey Award? I really like Swihart and would keep him on the team, but DFAing or trading Leon based on Swihart's spring training would not be wise. There may come a time when Leon (or even Vaz) becomes expendable, but not this soon.
  6. I think he makes the team too. At least until the Sox can get a better read on how well he's going to play.
  7. I think this is a big part of what Cora is talking about when he says that somebody needs to communicate the analytics to the players and get them to buy into it. Most players are not analytically inclined. Of course the players believe that they're going to hit better when they have Papi behind them, because they've been told that their entire baseball lives. FTR, I don't think most people here agree with what I say. I'm okay with that.
  8. He will play some outfield when the other guys need a break. But he really is that bad defensively.
  9. Boras apparently worked his butt off to get this thing done as quickly as possible. A bit of respect for him in that regard.
  10. I feel bad for the guy. No matter how he hits, he is likely to play out his contract in Pawtucket.
  11. If we can afford him in terms of luxury tax, sign me up.
  12. Pitchers do indeed pitch differently to batters who have this so called 'protection'. And yet, their offensive production remains unchanged. Our offense will be better this year, without a doubt. But outside of JD lengthening our lineup, the improvement will come from positive regression, not from 'protection'.
  13. I wouldn't be so quick to dump Leon based on how Swihart looks in spring training. I like the idea of having 3 catchers on the roster, where one of them can play multiple positions. Like many others, I'm pulling for Swihart. But I'm not dumping Leon any time soon.
  14. I just read a report that there are medical concerns holding up the JD signing.
  15. I do not get out that way very often, but it is a beautiful place.
  16. Dude is undefeated as a Red Sox manager. Put him in the Hall!
  17. I don't think the deal will get derailed either, but I do believe the Sox must have found something in the medicals that is giving them cause to delay the official announcement. I don't think it's just a logistical thing at this point.
  18. IMO, there really is no such thing as a 'good' long term deal. That said, in terms of the way contracts go for free agent players like JD, it's a good contract, relatively speaking. Yes, it could end up being horrific, but without the benefit of hindsight, I'd call it a good deal. Again, I'm speaking in relative terms compared to other long term deals.
  19. Mark me down as a Buchholz fan too. (Has he been signed yet? And if not, what are you waiting for Dave?) I was not sad to see him go, but I was also not eagerly pushing him out the door. You should want me managing your money. I'd save you tons.
  20. Meanwhile in southeastern VA, some of our trees and shrubs have already started flowering.
  21. Your wife is a smart woman. I did not move south because of the weather, but I absolutely don't miss it one bit.
