  1. The point is that Bogaerts considers him a leader. Shortly after the Machado incident, David Ross defended Pedroia as a great team leader. I've never heard any of his teammates, past or present, say otherwise.
  2. Ha. I still believe that Beckett got a bad rap in that chicken and beer fiasco.
  3. I didn't really mind the phone incident. Yes, Papi could have handled the situation better, but that is easier said than done when your emotions are running high in the middle of the game. Complaining about his individual stats, however, is one time that I wish he would have kept his mouth shut. Also, he said some things during contract negotiations that shouldn't have been said, IMO.
  4. I am guilty of participating in the batting order debates, but it is kind of funny how much time we spend on batting order, considering how little difference it actually makes. That said, it's a baseball forum. It's why we're here, to discuss/debate, ad nauseum, all things baseball.
  5. By all accounts, he also a great clubhouse presence, which apparently, the Sox are in need of.
  6. I really think it's going to come down to an options thing. I think Brentz deserves a chance, but being without options, he is likely on the short list to be DFA'd.
  7. I'm not in as big a hurry to get rid of Holt as many people here are. I'd like to see what he can do if he is fully healed from his concussion.
  8. How so? I don't see how signing Nunez has any affect on whether we sign JD or not. Nunez is more of a depth signing than anything.
  9. Who's buzzing now?!!!
  10. Ha. There are already writers/bloggers criticizing this move.
  11. I have always been on board with Betts hitting leadoff.
  12. I did see them. They were atrocious.
  13. I did not approve Pedroia's "It's not me, it's them" comment either. I wish he would have kept his mouth shut as well. Then again, there were a couple of times that I wish Papi would have kept his mouth shut too, and he is supposedly a great team leader. Bogaerts said in his press conference today that the leaders on the team are Pedroia, Porcello, and Price, in that order. Maybe fans and the media are making more out of the incident, and the Price incident, than we should be.
  14. Sounds good to me.
  15. Momentum is good. Until it suddenly disappears. I hope he gets signed. I would be happy to have him back.
  16. The Sox did have all the buzz in 2011, OTOH.
  17. Curling might not get all the buzz, but it is a most interesting and intriguing sport.
  18. I can't stand Gardner. That is all.
  19. Not necessarily. It could be a salary dump for the other team, which we could afford if we don't sign JD.
  20. Well, it does take two to tango. Dombrowski has made a reasonable, and currently the best offer (as far as we can tell) to JD. What is Dombrowski to do if JD doesn't accept? If we don't sign JD, we might just be better off waiting until midseason to see what our greatest area of weakness is. It might not be a big bat, but rather starting pitching.
  21. And Notin's favorite, Esteban Quiroz!
  22. LOL As I posted before, he is desperate to prove that he's not desperate.
  23. I still think JD ends up signing with us. It just makes too much sense for it not to happen.
  24. Boras doesn't owe Dombrowski anything, but I would think that if he wants the best offer for his client (and subsequently the most money for himself), he would give Dombrowski an opportunity to beat another offer. That doesn't mean that Dombrowski necessarily will beat it. But if Arizona's offers $100/5, which is reported what the Red Sox offer is, my guess is that JD would choose to return to Arizona. In that case, I could see Dombrowski increasing his offer to $110. I'd be okay with that.
  25. One of the reasons why I am happy to have Mitch back. Good signing, IMO.
