  1. It's very possible, but the players agreed to the current CBA, which is largely to blame for the contracts being down.
  2. FYI, these stats can be found at Baseball Reference. On the pitcher's stat page, click on 'Advanced Stats' under Finders & Advanced Stats. Then scroll down to "Starting Pitching". These stats are listed as Wchp (cheap wins) and Ltuf (tough losses). Here is the info for the other starters, cheap wins / tough losses: Sale: 2/3 Pom: 4/0 Erod: 0/0 Fister: 0/2 Price: 1/1
  3. Again, I completely agree. Any offense that we get from our catcher is gravy. As I've said before, I'd bring Varitek back if I could.
  4. Haha. Eck keeps me entertained, for sure.
  5. Yes, I agree that it can give the appearance that it's rising.
  6. Well, the post that I was replying to kind of gave me that idea.
  7. Completely agree Spud.
  8. My only fear is that some players may take the aggressive approach to the other extreme. Be aggressive, but be selectively aggressive.
  9. Of course a manager is not going to leave his best players on the bench, but there are times when there is a better hitter sitting on the bench than someone who is in the line up. And I'm not just talking about when a player needs a day off.
  10. Well, he did hold off on JD, and got him for cheaper than anyone projected. I'm interested to see what happens with next year's free agents.
  11. Swihart may end up supplanting Leon eventually, but I cannot emphasize enough the folly of doing that based on spring training results.
  12. Davenport projections has the Red Sox outscoring the Yankees 835 runs to 821 runs.
  13. I have never said it has to be one way or the other. But I am saying that perhaps just because something has 'worked' since the game was created doesn't mean that it can't be improved upon.
  14. LOL On the bench? Because as Moon would say, the idiot manager keeps putting Brock Holt in the lineup!
  15. Yup, and Lowell has had some very favorable things to say about Devers. He won't transform overnight, but I have to think we'll see an improvement defensively.
  16. I am thinking that Defensive Runs Earned (DRS) is more or less what you're talking about. DRS is not based solely on errors though.
  17. Eck still swears up and down that a fastball rises!
  18. As irrational as I know it is, I have certain baseball superstitions that I abide by, in order to not jinx the team. Because as you know, it IS all about me. LOL
  19. Brian Bannister has been doing this on the pitching side of things. Bannister shared some analytics with Rich Hill, got Hill to look at things differently, and resurrected his career.
  20. You may not agree with it or like it, but that's one of the things Cora wants to focus on, relaying analytics to players in a way that they will accept what Fangraphs and other stat geeks have to say to them. Again, it's not trying to make them understand the statistics, but getting them to buy into why, for instance, Cora might want to bat JD 2nd instead of 3rd.
  21. You are making strawman arguments cp. I think most fans, including casual ones, would form the opinion that a pitcher with an ERA of 6+ is a bad pitcher, based on just that stat. And I don't think that anyone would question those fans as to whether they've actually seen him pitch or not. So my question to you is why defensive metrics are any different.
  22. I love that play. Despite the headaches that he supposedly caused the team, I remain a huge Manny fan. He kept me entertained.
  23. No, Marrero did before Devers was called him. He didn't provide much offense, but I'm talking defensively, which was much needed when Marrero was called up.
