  1. That's like the name Wellington Castillo.
  2. I read this morning that JBJ is expecting to steal more bases this year. He says that Cora has given him the green light. What I found interesting was that Jackie said that he did not have the green light last year. With the aggressive base running approach that the team had last year, which resulted in many OOBs, I was under the assumption that the runners, at least the decent baserunners, all had the green light. I wonder why Jackie would not have the the green light when Farrell said continually that he wanted his players to be aggressive on the bases. And, I wonder if this was the case with all the players.
  3. It will all depend on how healthy our rotation can stay. If healthy, look out.
  4. Agreed. That's not the same as saying an AL East team is favored to get to the World Series.
  5. It's rare, but the more depth you have, the more chances you have to catch lightning in a bottle. Or at least be able to keep the teams in the game. LOL Ontiveros has apparently been erased from my memory.
  6. Or Rich Hill
  7. For the most part, yes. But I did say 'at the very least'. I think Dombrowski should have signed a #2/3 starter instead of a bat to begin with. As far as the inexpensive depth guys, there is no harm in signing a couple to minor league contracts. They may amount to nothing more than a mediocre fill in for one start, but one of the guys might actually end up being a decent long term replacement, if needed.
  8. Could happen, but as of now, the Astros remain the team to beat.
  9. Jason Mastrodonato ‏Verified account @JMastrodonato 2m2 minutes ago Looks like every player who had a flexor strain last year missed at least six weeks except Pomeranz, who got a late start after a stem cell injection in his elbow and then missed the minimum 10 days on the DL to start the year. Diagnosis then was a left forearm flexor strain.
  10. At the very least, Dombrowski should be signing some inexpensive depth guys. He hasn't even done that.
  11. I can certainly understand people's frustration with him. I'm a big supporter and was often frustrated with him myself. I just don't see any harm in adding him on a minor league deal. He might even be pretty good.
  12. Absolutely.
  13. At the moment, nobody seems too concerned about it. OTOH, I remember ERod's '3 day' injury lasting 3 months, so I won't believe it until I see Pom back on the field. As much as I like the JD signing, I still would have preferred the Sox add a top starting pitcher instead. That has always been my biggest concern for our 2018 team due to health question marks.
  14. I read that Cora wants to see Bogaerts become a power hitter. That statement is a little concerning to me. The last thing I think we need is for Bogaerts to be at the plate trying to hit home runs. I think Bogaerts can be a very good hitter with decent power, but I do have the concern that he (and other guys) will try too hard to hit more home runs. I think that was their biggest problem last season - trying to do too much.
  15. Congrats on the marriage and the baby on the way Hugh. I agree that the addition of JD makes a bigger impact on our offense than Stanton makes to the Yankees offense.
  16. I don't think Hosmer is as bad as you think he is. I very much doubt he'll be a zero WAR player this year. I'd have gladly taken him on a contract of 4 years or less.
  17. Pom had early exits from his starts due to some type of 'tightness' several times last season, including once in spring training. It ended up okay each time. Hopefully, it's more precautionary than anything else.
  18. That was a very dumb deal.
  19. I would have to agree. And even the elite players might not get the deals that were widely talked about entering this offseason. $300 mil /10 yrs was predicted by some for Harper. After the way this offseason played out, I can't see him getting close to that.
  20. It's very possible, but the players agreed to the current CBA, which is largely to blame for the contracts being down.
  21. FYI, these stats can be found at Baseball Reference. On the pitcher's stat page, click on 'Advanced Stats' under Finders & Advanced Stats. Then scroll down to "Starting Pitching". These stats are listed as Wchp (cheap wins) and Ltuf (tough losses). Here is the info for the other starters, cheap wins / tough losses: Sale: 2/3 Pom: 4/0 Erod: 0/0 Fister: 0/2 Price: 1/1
  22. Again, I completely agree. Any offense that we get from our catcher is gravy. As I've said before, I'd bring Varitek back if I could.
  23. Haha. Eck keeps me entertained, for sure.
  24. Yes, I agree that it can give the appearance that it's rising.
